There's a reason SU returns to it over and over, it's by far the show's best idea because of the narrative questions it opens up for you to explore. What, exactly IS a fusion? It's not exactly one of the people involved in the fusing, or one of the others. Not any one in particular. It's kind of its own separate thing, the fusion has their own distinct identity and personality. And yet that personality is fed, and draws from, the two persons, or gems, involved in the fusion. The fusion has traits of both, has elements of both, and yet is NOT them both, and not one or the other, but something Other and distinct.It's such a neat idea. One of those things you could only do in sci-fi, and that simply can't be transferred to real life.
