Wanted to read archie after finishing IDW sonic and the first 5 issues are unbearable gag comics, how long is it like this man cause I just wanna read a story not some stupid shit like this
Just fucking read the entire thing, nigga. Yeah, we know 250 issues is WAYYY too le heckin' much and that only a NERD FREAK of some kind would read that many issues of a comic you're interested in, but you can read, like, 30 of them in a single day. If you don't speed-read, you can be done with the entire series in a couple of weeks. Why are you here begging for permission to abridge it for yourself when you can just start anywhere you want? Why are you even reading it? If it's really that much of a fucking issue (XD!), start at the reboot.
>>150744764Avoid anything and everything having to do with Sonic the Hedgehog. This entire franchise is garbage. Do not engage under any circumstances. Trust me, it's not worth it.
Start at issue 160. If you're impatient, start at issue 175.Absolutely do not start before issue 160.
>>150744882Nah
>>150744921This, and Sonic Universe.
>>150744939To be fair, Sonic Universe is a great place to start, but it's a spin-off with a smaller budget.
>>150744809no i wanna read it but i want an actual story, not fucking gag shit that has no narrative
I don't.No seriously, I've read the whole thing. Unless you care about it from a historical standpoint, it's largely a time sink with little payoff.
>>150745027dang really? i heard so many people hype this shit up as one of the greatest sonic stories. should I just stick with idw?
If you're not autistic enough to read the earlier stuff I can't imagine you're autistic enough to follow it through to the end. You're already reading a weird, botched, disowned comic series, might as well go all in.
>>150744921For anyone wondering, Ian started writing at issue 160.
>>150745052skipped to issue 25 since someone said that's a good start point and it seems a lot better now, just wasn't fucking with the gag shit where they have like 5 different stories an issue
>>150744764Read after the post genesis wave, anything before that is a waste of time.
>>150745039idw sucks also, but archie is a trash-heap. Like any sonic thing it just has a lot of glazers and tasteless simps. You have people telling you 06 and Unleashed are masterpieces too.
>>150745039It eventually becomes a really fun and well drawn kids action comic, but yeah that's years down the line, it's why people are recommending you 160 issue and onwards, which would save you dealing with Penders. if you can vibe with early Flynn's weird version of the Sonic Universe, I do think, by presentation alone, it's some of the best Sonic stuff. I say, check Sonic Universe as well, some stories are a better starting point for people who like the games, albeit, again, they come with some major departures from the games.
>>150745039It's fucking great. And everything before issue 160 is fucking shit.
>>150745175everything after issue 160 is fucking shit too
>>150745023Issue 20 is when is starts getting serious IIRC
>>150745023I really can't understand the kind of person who cares enough about old comics to want to read a 300 issue behemoth, but also doesn't get that "gag stories" are essential character and world building and often have more value than the core narrative.
>>150745612It's not just gag stories. Zoomers and younger milennials who grew with Naruto One Piece and DBZ were groomed into thinking any sort of self-copntained episodic storytelling is filler. Its why so many shows, even ones that used to be episodic, have to be all about season-wide narratives.
>>150744764Here's a handy, dandy reading guide with marked starting points. Although you're doing yourself a disservice by depriving yourself from context and fun from the early installments and the catharsis of when Flyn takes over from Penders.
I thought you guys hated Flynn? Why are you praising his work so much?
>>150746659His introduction with cleaning up Archie Sonic's narrative genuinely felt like a breath of fresh air but we didn't realize that "better than Penders" was damning with faint praise at the time. Compound that with the fact that Flynn formed a lot of habits during his tenure with Archie that he's technically not allowed to do in IDW but still tries to skirt the line anyway. It's the narrative equivalent of trying to force a square peg in a round hole and it's pissing everyone off.
>>150746659He's kind of a coward that has a habit of throwing people under the bus and I hate what he's done since the last days of the Archie reboot till the landfill of slop that was IDW but I like some parts of Archie and Megaman. Just because Sonic keeps having bad stories doesn't mean I magically stop liking the actually good vidya media he was involved with.
