What makes something popular for normies vs popular for /co/? Kpop Demon Hunters is uber popular, but you don't see constant threads on /co/ about it
Pretty sure /co/ counts this and Nezha as /a/ material. Might be wrong though. In my humble opinion, KDH might be popular but there's not many things to talk about. It's a serviceable music video with decent animation, endearing "what real girls are like" characters and a rather predictable story with catchy music. I fell asleep right before the "break up" portion of movie but woke up just in time for the fantastic finale. But yeah that's it. Like it or hate it, that's all I really have to say about it.
I think it's a matter of what maintains long-term discussion here.I know /co/ has a sizable femanon crowd but we're still mostly guys and for whatever reason the K-Pop girls didn't appeal to Anons here.Ruby Gillman is probably one of the most glaring examples of something that wasn't popular among normalfags but popular on /co/ albeit for the wrong reasons since that was built more on disappointment, frustration, and wasted potential with new information that lasted months.I think K-Pop Demon Hunters would've found its place among /co/ had this board not become a hollowed out husk by then but also as I'm typing this down I think the rise of alternative places for discussing comics and cartoons played a role in why certain audiences would thrive elsewhere.
>>150756258It's Sony you moron
>>150756274Maybe but it's still K-Pop. A genre not really talked about a whole lot on /co/. Because like I said, it's basically an extensive music video of a Kpop album. That is not to say that I didn't enjoy it. But there's not enough controversy, waifu bait, or gushing over the animation to warrant many threads for it.
>>150756213Little girls really like pretty female characters & singing. That's all it takes.
>>150756323>Maybe but it's still K-Pop.Yeah and it's still /co/ because it's made by a Western studio
>>150756350Okay? I agree? But it's still KPOP, anon. I never said it doesn't belong on /co/. Just that I've seen people say it leans closer to /a/ like Nezha. Which I personally hate because I really wanted to talk about Nezha 2 with people but /co/ doesn't find it cartoony enough and /a/ doesn't find it gay enough.
>>150756323i know fans on ao3 really like to talk about alternate universes of what if rumi died. i think the most popular ao3 fic is about it. it's called "Let me sit down for dinner with my dead lover again, For this is the last dream I ever want to have" by a_bird_who_is_like_no_other
>>150756377/a/ doesn't allow any western stuff, and kpop is a western movie./co/ doesn't talk about it much ironically because it's also not gay enough for the autistic gays who make up most of the modern online cartoon community. It's mostly made for tween girls and their moms, as is the case with most kpop in general.
>>150756213>What makes something popular for normiesCompetent storytelling, flashy visuals, decent action>vs popular for /co/?Waifus
>>150756377>I really wanted to talk about Nezha 2yay another ne zha fan!
>>150756213>popular for normies dogshit>popular for /co/fandom-oriented dogshit
>>150756410>Waifusbut kpop demon hunters has 3 women as the main characters and the tumblr fandom and ao3 fandom and twitter fandom is constantly polytrix shipping them together
>>150756213>popular for normies Engaging. Whether through plot or wacky visuals.>popular for /co/Waifufaggotry. /co/ will make threads about anything as long as there's a cute female character(s) that is worth obsessing over.
>>150756471You don't understand what makes a waifu
Loved the live performance! (The key had to be shifted down because EJAE is still recovering from bronchitis)https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8y-ViyUk7Dk
>>150756496I really don't. I see people make child cartoon characters as waifus so i have no idea what the waifu factor is. I don't waifu characters, can someone explain it to me?
>>150756377>>150756455I saw it with my mom and enjoyed it a lot
>>150756482>>150756410i don't know why anons shit on reddit for being stupid when many of their anon discussions amount to constant waifuposting. same with /mu/, it's filled with waifuposting now
>>150756258>>150756377try making a KPOP Demon Hunters thread on /a/ and see how fast you get the bootno one thinks this is more /a/ than /co/, stop being retarded, not even Netflix, who loves slapping the "anime" title in anything calls it anime, genuine mongoloid take.
K-Pop is the zenith of innocuous normie slop and retards will gobble up anything adjacent to it.
>>150756410TRUKE
>>150756504There's no hard and fast criteria. Fuck's sake, people waifu Creepy Suzie.>>150756530Because reddit is an enforced circlejerk
UP UP UP!
>>150756504Personality
>>150757307the Huntrix have plenty of personality!
>>150757426But are they cute and funny?
>>150757467of course, that's why lots of little girls love kpop demon hunters
>>150756213/co/ is just /pol/ lite so we tend to prefer racist shows and comics
>>150756213>you don't see constant threads on /co/ about itNewfag or marketer? Because if you were here any time during the first month or so after it premiered that's exactly what it was like. We're all K-popped out, everything there was to discuss has been discussed.
>>150757771i was busy for most of that period. i saw one of the early threads for it, and then by the time i came back, 4chan barely discusses it. i see the fandom is still way more active on tumblr and twitter and reddit. what were the vibes from those early threads, what did people here like to focus on?
>>150757797>Anons who disliked it complaining about memefaces and trolling anons who liked it for having shit taste>Anons who liked it trolling back when it became massively successful>Pleasant surprise the main relationship was straight>Disappointment most of the porn was gay>Anons complaining there were too many threads about it>Fun allowed vs. no fun allowed>Who's your favourite Huntrix?>What's your favourite song?>That gif of Rumi deepthroating a sushi roll posted over and over>by the time i came back, 4chan barely discusses itThis is just the way things are now with streaming, particularly season dumps. If you're not watching and discussing it in the first few days after release, no-one else will be.
>>150756213It's all style No substance like most animation today. The plot was awful. Sure , the song that rip offs that other kpop song was catchy but that's about it.
>>150757879thanks!
>>150757949No worries, you can always trawl the archives if you want a better sense of /co/'s reaction at the time. To your earlier point, I think it probably has more legs with the fujos in other places because well, it's almost tailor made for them. /co/ by comparison is a lot more straight and male.>inb4 implying
>>150757985>more legs with the fujosthe fujos somehow going nuts for a 3 person yuri ship is honestly great. i haven't seen that happen before
>>150756213>popular for normiesBe good at being competent. Do nothing terrible but nothing great. Maybe have some catchy tunes that is with the flavor of the generation. You could have replaced the kpop elements of KDH with New Kids on The Block or N Sync style boybands and the oriental parts with generic grim reaper vs damned souls, release it in the 00s and it would have had a huge spark like KDH did now, only to be completely forgotten in a year with people going "oh yeah, that movie was alright I guess."
>>150758019>be a ne zha fujo>get to have polytrix tooit's great to get to focus on women too
>>150756213KPOP Demon Hunters going viral means Jentry Chau gets a second chance, right?
Its just frozen. Stupid story with cool prettygirls and catchy songs.
>>150758972it seems well received. how come it doesn't seem popular?
>>150756349Apparently little boys of the current generation alpha do too.
>>150756938I cant believe pop culture has been subjected to Taylor swift’s shitty music for nearly 2 decades now
Kpop Demon Hunters singing voice actresses do Jimmy Fallon interview:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z9PusX5ugbI
>>150757558Half of this board is /pol/ shit Most of this board is /co/mblr(then theres a tiny fringe group that actually likes cartoons)
>>150759283the new swift album wasn't as well received, so the swifties and kpop fans might fight it out on the chart
>>150759235Netflix is doing a terrible job marketing it.
>>150756499I can't wait until EJAE fully recovers and the Huntrix unleash their full power at the grammys or oscars
>>150759308that sucksit's a miracle Kpop Demon Hunters made it out of the Netflix not marketing anything
>>150759336It's true, but there's definitely a community of people watching it.
>>150759295Which side is "I want to talk about comics without political niggerfaggots on either side hijacking shit with their petty low IQ slapfights"?
>>150759364A fringe so tiny that anon didn’t even remember to mention it, unfortunately.
>>150756263>alternative places for discussing comics and cartoons What might those be? I feel like there simply isn't any place to discuss anything properly without circle jerking/shitposting anymore.
>>150756410>>150756471I mostly see art of women thirsting after the demon bishies, and het shipping. Barely and Yuri or yaoi
>>150759977search polytrix and you will get yuri galore
>>150756263I agree that KPDH would've fared better on /co/ maybe a decade ago. As it stands this place is just too bitter and caught up in culture war bullshit.
>>150760403>caught up in culture war bullshit.could barely even discuss the Ne Zha movies here without people trying to shit up the thread because it's chinese, even though the Ne Zha movies seem like something /co/ would like
