Could Batman solve her unsolved crimes and bring Sam to justice?
>>
>>150771893
>serial killer who operates in the day
>only sources her victims from urban areas
>acts quickly and irregularly with large gaps between kidnappings
>actual murders and body disposal are carried out in undeveloped areas
>lives in a small, insular rural town where any newcomer would be immediately noticed
Batman would be legit hard pressed to discover her crimes and any investigation would probably take years.
>>
>>150771893
Literally the only reason she hasn't gotten caught by the regular police is because this shit takes place in the late 80's to early 90's, before the advent of DNA profiling. If you want to bring the Batman (I'm assuming he's an actual bat) into play here, then he would have pinned Sam the moment she posted the message to the duck's sister on that missing persons message board and her big fat brown asexual ass would have spent the rest of her short life on death row.

Probably getting passed around to other inmates by a bulldyke polar bear named "Fisty."
>>
>>150771893
>>150771986
To add to what this anon said:
>bodies don't get found so her victims are just missing people, which happens in cities every day
>it's not even known or suspected a serial killer is responsible, the murders don't even exist as far as anyone else knows
Prior to Nigel's actions making her a suspect in Volume 1, Sam was basically untouchable. After that, the plot kinda relies on local law enforcement being very dumb and lazy.
>>
>>150771893
It's fucking Batman
>>
>>150772160
That's true, but you just know it'd be written like this
>Batman's asked to help town disappearances
>Batman can't find any distinct clue, so much animal hair and the lack of thumbprints makes it difficult for any scanner to pick up
>Months go by and no one disappears, he knows that whoever is behind it knows he's looking
>He makes public announcement that he's stopping his search
>Leaves the town but focuses a Wayne tech satellite onto the town and waits
>Eventually Sam is spotted driving out
>Day prior was the last time the latest person disappeared
>He finds where she stopped
>Opens buckets
>She's done for
>>
>>150771893
the fact she lives with retarded animals means she can get away with it, thats the whole point.
>>
Sam only gets away with it because she keeps a relatively low profile in a small town full of naive idiots.

Yes. Like almost immediately. Sam only got away with it for so long because she avoided killing anyone close to her home base and the cops in her home town are comically inept.

The Nigel incident should have realistically gotten her caught and if anyone with more than two brain cells would have looked further into her to realize she's sketchy as shit. But for some reason the cops in her home town never bothered to call in the FBI and were more than happy to buy her obvious bullshit story and scapegoat Nigel for everything.

It took Nigel a month to discover she was a serial killer and he's a psychotic college dropout

Sam isn't a criminal mastermind. She's just a meticulous autist who relies on the stupidity of others to not look into her sketchy ass behavior. The minute you do notice Sam her entire cover crumbles

There are so many ways Batman can catch her it's almost comical.
>>
>>150771893

>The Nigel incident should have realistically gotten her caught and if anyone with more than two brain cells would have looked further into her to realize she's sketchy as shit
I agree with that, but nobody even had any reason to be looking into her before then. Nigel was only following her because he was a creepy stalker, not because he suspected her of anything.
>>
>>150772653
He was kinda a pedo as well.
>>
>>150772679
Because of the little cat girl? He was just scoping out potential victims there, I think that was just a way to show he really didn't care who he killed. Nige made it pretty clear he only had eyes for Sam and it was her not reciprocating that made him go full psycho.
>>
>>150772653
>Nigel was only following her because he was a creepy stalker

Yeah, that's kind of the point. One random fucking dumbass decides to follow her out of town one day, completely uncovers her entire schtick, and Sam had no fucking clue. And then even when she did finally find out, she did absolutely fuck-all about him until he fucking clowned on her ass so hard that only the monstrous, borderline criminal retardation of the local police could save her.

Now imagine that an actual detective with actual skills decides to look into some of these missing persons cases.
>>
>>150772600
The point is she was easily discovered by a kid thinking with his dick and didn't even notice until it was too late which shows she's not really being that careful in covering her tracks. Again relying on everyone in her surroundings being stupid and trusting her.

If we assume Batman is there to investigate a murder before the Nigel incident i don't think it would take him long to peg Sam as a suspect. Might take a few days or weeks and looking around the town and city but Batman would have the resources to do that amd it wouldn't takeong to find the dozens of bodies Sam left in that forrest

If he's there after the Nigel incident Sam would be the first person he'd investigate.
>>
>>150772834
>Now imagine that an actual detective with actual skills decides to look into some of these missing persons cases.
Presuming this is pre-Nigel, what would they find though? It was the '80s so there wasn't a lot of CCTV. A detective would find as much as the city police did about Monica's brother: last known sighting and that's about it. And that's before you consider the vast majority of missing people in the city won't be Sam's victims. She's taking what, one person every six months or so? The likelihood any given disappearance being investigated is her doing is very small.

>>150773038
>looking around the town
Again, pre-Nigel, there's zero reason for anyone to be looking in some random rural town for people who went missing in the city.

>>
>>150774723

Annabelle and the conjuring franchise are also owned by WB who owns DC

Wb has done like 7000 multi media cross overs with all the shit they own in the last 10 years and absolutely none of them have ever been successful. Yet they keep trying. This time they're including characters from shit they don't own. But seeing how they might get bought out by one or more of the companies those characters come from they may all end up under the same corporate umbrella in future anyways
>>
A Serial Killer getting caught not by the Police but because they got careless is the usual way those morons get caught
It's also surprising how many times a Serial Killer gets caught because they were convinced to let a victim go. Serial Killers can be smart and get away with it thanks to their own efforts but part of it is taking advantage of the incompetence of law enforcement

why is there a guy on reddit trying to prove Jeffrey Dahmers innocence

New to serial killers? They probably attract the most simps after celebrities and e-thots. The only thing that surprises me is that it's a guy. Serial killer simps are like 99% female, but then I guess Dahmer was gay so maybe that's it.

The problem with most of these arguments are that they assume Batman already knows that people are being kidnapped. The question shouldn't be "Can Batman solve the case?" because anyone can solve the case when they already know how she operates, the question should be "how would Batman begin to suspect a serial kidnapper in the first place?"

Why? Break this down to me: why do you want something so self contained and wrap up, whored out? Are you a young kid? Have you not witnessed the 50 year mountain of hubris that just ruins everything? A classic only stays a classic if left alone. And this shit isn't even -that- good meaning that when this sequel goes sideways(and it will) this will be just added to the pile of forced IPs that never went anywhere because no one knows how to just enjoy a good self contain media and move on to something new.

It's like cancer of the soul.

You're a fucking dunce. Do you think murders are so common that a serial killer causing a sudden uptick is invisible?
>>
>>150777862
It's funny how those Watchmen sequel books actually did impact the culture with the series, no one talks about it anymore and it's taken more like a joke than anything worth reading. You think for how much farther out they came from the orginal work it wouldn't have any impact but I guess it just made an already jaded crowd go full nihilistic cynic to the property. Actually didn't that also get included in some DC/Batman cross around that time too?

>What murders?
Right. The main issue with anyone catching Sam is that if there are no bodies found, there are no murders. You're reliant on the luck of catching her in the act of abducting someone like Nigel did. And then the authorities know at the very least there's a bear who kidnapped someone and you have her description and probably also that of her vehicle because she engineers things so she can shove them in there straight away. It's a case of:
>Sam fucks up, she's done almost immediately
>Sam doesn't fuck up, she can continue to operate with impunity
That's really the core of the first volume of the comic: Sam got complacent in her system she'd spent 20 years refining (she thought) to perfection but failed to notice Nigel spying on her and it fucked everything up. I don't think it's accidental that in Volume 2 she's shown abducting a guy in a parking garage rather than out in the open any more.
>>
>>150773038
She was only discovered by Nigel cuz the little shit was basically shadowing and stalking her. Nobody else found out because they weren't focus on Sam at all. Nigel probably has sniffed and licked her dirty panties at some point.
>>
>>150771893
I find the concept of Sam really scary because I actually make it a rule that I help someone while I'm out in the city, whether it be with directions or whatever. Yesterday, I walked an old lady all the way to her doctor's office because she couldn't find it.

Sam ruins the sanctity of being a helpful young man.

I believe some Mass Shooters were would-be Serial Killers who took up Mass Shooting because it's the quickest way a psycho can get that sort of gratification
Being a Serial Killer in the days of constant surveillance is a big risk and you're likely to get caught after the first or second body because novice Serial Killers never seem to know what they're doing at first. To them, why bother trying to keep a level head in between murders when you know you're just going to get caught later, you probably won't even last long. Why not just go out and kill as many people as possible before either the Police get you or you get yourself
Mass Shootings a trend and an endgoal for groomers online and when the trend dies I imagine most people will go back to serial killing
I know Mass Shooters are a different kind of beast but this is my assumption

>>150790572

The only prequel is a one shot about Sam's first murder in Germany. The sequel has three issues out, so far so good. A third mini is already a go.

>Sam is off to town to find a victim
>sees something shiny in the road
>gets out to investigate, finds fucking caltrops
>has a brief "oh shit!" moment before she gets tranquilizer darted in the ass
>wakes up in a tar paper shack in the woods, tied to a gurney
>she's actually kind of excited because she thinks that she's attracted the attention of another killer who wants to match wits with her or something
>surely there is some divine artistry here, the poetic nature of it all, as similar souls share appreciation of each other's bloody work
>but no, they're just highwaymen
>there's no rival killer, no family member seeking revenge, no shootout with the cops
>they unceremoniously chop out her kidneys, steal her car, and just leave her there to die
>the end

Absolutely. Sam’s actually very sloppy, and only got away with her serial killing spree for so long because of luck, incompetence, and forensics not being advanced enough.

There’s also the fact that the cut up bodies don’t fit with Nigel’s MO. He wanted everyone to see what he did, and made a spectacle of it all. Hiding the bodies just doesn’t fit with that.

she might pull a hannibal and make the duck girl her protege for the third miniseries. i know she hated nigel and had no interest in teaming with him i can see her eventually feeling like the "thrill" of the murders themselves are not worth the trouble of prep/hiding/getting caught and trying to like meld/mindbreak someone into being her successor
>>
>>150771986
The Bear Bitch is having trouble murdering in the 90s because of the rising trend of internet usage. Batman has the best technology that borders on sci-fi at his disposal. With some detective skills and bullshit tech, he's find her easily. Dealing with her may be another thing since, you know, she's a fucking bear

She’s a sick freak that likes getting away with what she’s done, but the technological leap of the 90s is making that harder and harder. Just like how the wild bear got pushed out of its hunting ground, and forced to look for food in the town, Sam herself is using a new hunting ground to placate her urge to murder. And just like the bear, it could prove to be her undoing.

I'm a guy that watches and reads a lot of mysteries, and I've begun seeing through typical writing techniques used for implicating characters. I kind of clocked the first series the second Nigel was mentioned as being a college dropout. In an idyllic town, you create a singular character that does nothing, has no job, and just lost his purpose in life. It was pretty obviously him. I still liked the story and feel it was done well.

That being said, with my meta-knowledge as it is, I'm thinking Sam tries to convince qt duck girl to kill, as a mentor to her, and when duck girl refuses Sam has to kill her.
>>
>>150790497
Yes she is, the author even calls her a teddy a few times, and the title originates from a children's book about teddy bears.
>>
>>150771893
Batman is in that "basically omniscient" tier of bullshit fictional detective so he'd solve it in like an afternoon after finding trace dirt samples at the scene of the abduction that only match up with soil samples in one small rural town not too far from said crime scene.
We'd need someone that actually relies on deduction and lacks infinite resources to make a fun hypothetical. L maybe.
>>
>>150796313
People vastly underestimate how difficult the Kira case would be to crack. L only narrowed shit down as much as he did because he was willing to use a sacrificial lamb. Like the fuck is the Scoobie gang going to do when they wouldn't even be able to work closely with the police like L did?

Every teddy bear who's been good is sure of a treat today
There's lots of marvelous things to eat and wonderful games to play
Beneath the trees where nobody sees they'll hide and seek as long as they please
That's the way the teddy bears have their picnic
>>
>>150801724
iirc Horvath said the song inspired the idea because he thought it was a bit sinister and seems to imply the bears are up to no good. I never really clocked that as a kid, but it kinda does.

It’s like throwing JJBA Kira without Killer Queen into a death tournament. She doesn’t have any powers whatsoever, she just wants a quiet life while also being able to kill people and get away with it. If he even remotely got her on his radar as a suspect, she'd be fucked. Something as simple as doing a check up on her parents would fuck her over.
The real question is how someone would link her city killings to her in the first place.
The only reason duck lady knew of Woodbrook is because Sam herself goaded her.
Unless Sam is retarded enough to specifically try and goat Batman, destroying the entire reason to have this debate in the first place, you'd need a different angle to get a link between her killings and her.

Hair forensics have been around since the 1850s. You mean to tell me during anything remotely physical that a grown brown bear didn't shed a single one of its 30-million hairs? I don't see the benefit of making the setting animal-themed if the writer refuses to engage with an ounce of the logic.

Is this the time to discuss how I think the characters are all human, and the animal stuff is just artistic choice? I mean, its not like any of the characters even aknowledge their different appearances or anything. They also behave exactly like humans instead of a bojack-esque world where the animals behave like humans but still have some animal personality. Furthermore the most lost to obvious: the actual wild animals out there. Sam didnt even talk about how similar they are when she met the bears. No character does.
On another note, do we know when issue 4 is dropping?
>>
>>150810936
November 12th, barring delays.
>>
>>150809062
Not that easy. Theres been a history of murders going unsolved in small hick towns irl due to multiple factors. Police departments cant always afford onsite detectives. Some police departments usually hire private investigators from nearby districts if they can afford it. In the state of the comic this town might have suffered so much that they want to bury the tragic history as much as they can and end further investigation. In the defense of sam trying to dispose of nigel and clearing herself as a suspect im pretty sure theres some easy ways she couldve weasled her way out of it

>Is this the time to discuss how I think the characters are all human, and the animal stuff is just artistic choice?

The first series had a few references to animal traits certain characters had, the pig lady called Sam a furry bitch Charlie's, Sam mole employee, wife mentioned their stubby fingers etc.

But the first issue of Rite of Slring pretty much acknowledges they really are animals on page one.

>>
>>150808713
Adding to what others said Woodbrook was small and had never seen this level of violence in their town. It's probably not a stretch to imagine they didn't have a forensics department

>>150809062
DNA profiling was only developed in 1984 and was first used in an active criminal investigation in 1988. The first comic series takes place in 1986.

By the time DNA testing would become widely and cheaply available the case would have been several years old and considered long solved, the murders stopped when Nigel got popped. They had no reason to look forther into the case

A lot of Sam's success as a serial killer relies heavily on her local police department's incompetence and borderline criminal ignorance and to be fair they're not really exaggerating. Cops really are that dumb.

>>150774671
she's a fucking bear

How does she keep everything in neat little chunks? Organs aren't really glued in place, they're mostly held where they are by membranes and muscles. Like, your intestines are basically just sitting in your gut with the only real sturdy connection points being your stomach and your butthole, and they're kept in place by the same force of tension that lets them push digested matter around. That's why you shit yourself when you die, there's no more coil in the spring and the poo sludge just runs through. Cutting someone into neat little bricks like that would cause a lot of organ meat spillage.
