DC is doing a lot right these days. There's a lot of cynicism in comics discussion, and to some extent I get it. But you know, I'm loving DC right now. I trust DC to entertain me, and I really like a bunch of their books. I am a DC fan and I'm excited to read these.

No, I'm in the same boat actually.
Big Spidey fan here, I wanna be in the marvel boat but I'm being actively punished for it.
Absolute martian manhunter? It's SO cool.
Batman and Robin year one? That shit's fun actually.
My passing interest in DC is growing into an obsession.
>>
>>150788221
I'm the same way. Nothing against DC but I only watched the Marvel cartoons as a kid. Never watched Batman or Justice League so I don't have the built in affinity for those characters. But Marvel is just not doing it for me, and I think DC's books are not only higher quality in general, but their universe feels more cohesive, and I think it rewards you more for reading multiple books.
>>
>>150788128
They aren't really doing a lot. This is doing the minimum, arguably less than that.
>>
I felt the same during the Rebirth era, then it went down the shitter. It's a cycle.
>>
>>150789844
Well enjoy the good times while they're here. Don't just say, "Well, eventually they'll fuck it up again," because where's the fun in that?
>>
>>150789823
shut up
>>
>>150788128
I wouldn't say I'M LOVING things. But there are at least a few books I got to keep me interested. This KO event is retarded as fuck though. So that good will might go out the window but man am I feeling teased by a new Legion.

They should try to do another animated series for Green Lantern/GL. But specifically more so focus on Kyle Rayner and have it written by Mark Waid, Robert Kirkman, or Greg Weisman.

A Martian Manhunter movie with Superman, Lobo, Parasite or Metallo, Cameron Chase and Checkmate could also work out.

A Scarecrow solo movie featuring Cillian Murphy again against Simon Dark would also be great.

And finally a Checkmate TV Series, featuring a lineup of:

>Amanda Waller
>Maxwell Lord
>Sasha Bordeaux
>Sebastian Faust
>Mr. Terrific
>Fire
>Harry Stein
>King Faraday
>Cheetah
>Nemesis

Overall, I'd be most excited for Checkmate and a Green Lantern series featuring Kyle Rayner. Or whatever features more of Kyle, Cheetah, and Martian Manhunter.

I notice you said read not buy
>>
>>150792052
Mark Waid is a massive silver age cuck and would sooner kill himself than write about a post-Silver Age character like Kyle Rayner.
>>
>>150792661
He litterally saved the flash from irrelevance with his writing of wally and creation of the speed force.

I think he'll do well with Kyle rayner.
>>
>>150792718
And yet, he takes up space writing about Dick Grayson as Robin in the year 2025 despite Dick having had like forty years of prior stories as Robin.
So no. His writing is also incredibly boring.

>rucka batwoman

>anyone writing lobo
>another shitty Batman anthology nobody wants written and drawn by people nobody likes
>babs doing anything but dying
>firestorm doing anything but being forgotten, probably being made gay
>etrigan, probably being depowered for a female replacement.
>>
>>150792661
And he’s based for that. Too many “modern” writers can lead to shitty results. Look at Marvel for example. It’s good to have some old heads in the mix
>>
>>150793554
He’s not. It’s fucking boring. It’s an example of a boomer who can’t let go of the past.
>>
>>150788128
I hope they stick with the DC's Finest collections. I've been tempted to pick a few of those up.
>>
>>150788128
Which 90s title is missing from this batch? I like the are channeling 90s titlles again.

Between this and Vertigo coming back I agree, big steps in the right direction. But I'm also not obligated to like any of these comics either and quite frankly I have very little faith in the talents at comic books these days, from editors to writers to artists, due the cronyism that has infested the industry for the last 20-odd years. They are looking to replicate things that worked for them in the past, and not looking to proactively change to keep up with the times.

>getting mad about things you made up in your head
>>
>>150792636
I will buy them, but it's the reading part that excites me, not the buying part. While it's fun to collect a run of a comic, I buy them because I like the stories, not just because I like to grow a collection. I buy comics from DCBS, and the discounts they offer make it easier to buy a bunch more books than I'd be able to otherwise.

and what would that look like to you?

Did you read the one-shot? This was a fantastic issue and I'd like more of it.
>>
>>150796747
I'm kind of interested in Vertigo, but I don't like most of the writers they've announced. I might check out two or three.
>>
>>150788128
There's not enough talent in comics these days. And I think it's shitty to hail them for finally giving some of the smaller characters titles just because they've been stuck in meat and potatoes mode for the last 10 years, they used to be better 15 years ago, 20 years ago. They're on the right track compared to Marvel but they're still not at what their level should be.
>>
>>150797145
Meh I not only read it I own it but it’s not exactly great
>>
>>150797208
>There's not enough talent in comics these days
Because they keep hiring women, effeminate men and POC based solely on the fact that theyre women, effeminate men and POC.

>stuck in meat and potatoes mode for the last 10 years
No the fuck they haven’t that’s precisely the problem.

>They're on the right track compared to Marvel
Each company has like 3 titles worth reading tops, theyre both in a terrible spot and have been for years.
>>
>>150797395
Women can be good writers, manga has had a lot of good women creators but in comics the women writers are usually bad because, as I said, there's a lack of talent in the industry right now.
>No the fuck they haven’t that’s precisely the problem.
Fuck outta here.
>Each company has like 3 titles worth reading
Marvel does not have 3 titles worth reading.
>>
>>150788128
Zatanna and Lobo logos look very aesthetically pleasing.
>>
>>150797136
A complete corporate restructure, actively looking for writing/artist talents outside the industry and cultivating them, a change in the actual product and how it's delivered to consumers, marketing campaigns to try and get people to read comics. Significant changes that carry high risk but need to happen sooner rather than later. I can't say to what happens behind the scenes but what they show upfront never suggests they have any real desire to change, they just go through the same motions over and over again
>>
>>150788128
>DC is doing a lot right these days

They're certainly better now than they were three or five years ago. But they're also hell of a lot worse than they were 25 years ago.
>>
Underwhelmed by all of these. None of this is worth $5 an issue.
>>
>>150797543
Yeah, lobo is just 90s lobo's logo
>>
>>150797145
It's rather good old-fashion Lobo I think. What's not to like?
>>
>>150800493
Well 90s Lobo is the best version of Lobo so there you have it. Hope Young don't screw up.
