I've never read anything from him but why is he so hated?
>>
>>150832503
1. He’s an awful writer with a massive ego who disregards characterization to write banal feckless characters who lack any shred of heroism
2. He was in the CIA
3. It’s unclear if 1. is intentionally done because of 2. because it’s all a psyop or if he really is just that much of a hack.
>>
>>150832503
Heroes in Crisis
>>
>>150832503
I don’t read much of his stuff either, but I know he’s killed Alfred and Steve Trevor, which tells me all I need to know. He’s a hack
>>
>>150832503
If you enjoy a character and their comics, and then king writes in of their comics, you’ll immediately hate him.

The best way to describe any of his work on pre-establish IPs (read: Big 2 gigs) is that theyre for people who “never liked this character before”.
>>
>>150832841
Then I'm glad he's mostly at DC now where he can't touch Punisher or Fury
>>
>>150832503
Every character that he writes suffers from post traumatic experience.
>le 9 panels pages
>fan favourite character gets deconstruted again
Also he don't care for continuity, is the same shit as bendis.
>>
>>150832503
/co/ hates him because he treats superhero comic characters as expendable, writes them out of character, and ultimately writes the same themes using different characters. But they should also hate him because he's a shit writer who's terrible at dialogue, narration, humor and characterization. He dresses his comics up to look kinda like Watchmen, and the retards at Reddit eat it up.
>>
>>150832503
Bad writer.

He doesn't really write comics about superheroes.
He keeps writing books where the main hero is a suicidally depressive sad sack that hates everything, hates themself, keeps talking about how they hate everything and genuinely every single title he writes looks like some real serious cry for help.

It's no exaggeration, he write every main character with severe PTSD.
>>
>>150832702
Ex-CIA guys are always one of three things.
Hypernationalist, hyper-pessimist and cynical, or outright lost it and turned violent. The more on the "need to know basis" you are, the more fucking broken you are when you've left.
And remember, King served at a time after 9/11 when the CIA were being considered heroes serving the country, that probably fucked up his whole notion of what a hero is.
>>
>>150832503
punchable face
>>
>>150832503
>He wrote a mini where Wally West is depressed, goes to some super secret superhero hospital for heroes suffering PTSD, and he freaks out and kills everyone there. Lots of secondary and third rate heroes are still dead from that mini. It was a canon story.
>He wrote another mini where Kyle Rayner is a manic depressive sad person who speaks baldly google translated spanish and clutches a rosary and prays over and over again and freaks out instead of doing anything to help the Omega Men. They sort of save themselves while he freaks out and cries a lot. That carried over into Thorn's GL run where Kyle just crouched down and cried a lot in the background.

Tom queen lol
>>
>>150834649
>served
lol no, he worked for them. He isn’t a veteran just as someone who works for any of the arm branches isnt automatically a veteran. Combat servicemen are veterans. Only servicemen “serve”.

His mom is a warner bros executive who helped create the home DVD market. He's a made man in Hollywood and only gets hired and media praise because of who his mom is.

https://spyscape.com/article/action-man-tom-king-the-cia-spy-turned-batman-author

He makes it sound like he was running black ops missions in this interview.
>>
>>150832834
Killing Alfred was Didio's decision though. And that was to set up for 5G where Batman'd go to jail for letting Joker kill Bane so to avenge Alfred and would get replaced by Jace. And King has said he refused to go in that direction and left the book.
>>
>>150832702
But he wrote Supergirl as genuinely heroi even if she was still bitter about other things
>>
>>150836690
lol what? His supergirl is awful.
>>
Might read Mr. Miracle.
>>
>>150832503

Bruning made Adam Strange a whiny adulterous bitch but King gets hate because his Adam Strange chose to sacrifice and sabotage Earth to save Rann.
Willingham and Sturges were borderline racist when writing Mister Terrific in addition to giving him literal brain damage, but King's is the worst take ever because... he wasn't black enough? Or something?
Byrne turned Mister Miracle into a cuck and turned Barda into a rape victim, and Starlin turned Scott suicidal a decade before King got to write the character, but King's is the worst take ever because CIA MAN BAD.

When you realize that it's just the misdirected anger of a bunch of whiny batfags raging the man's whole bibliography because didio hyped a wedding fakeout and crippled dick and killed alfred.
>>
>>150836453
>makes it sound
And MULTIPLE EISNER AWARD WINNER makes it sounds like King can write, anon.
>>
>>150836494

King was booted off the book prematurely and told to fuck off and finish up his story in minis when Batman dropped below 100k sales for the first time ever

He's not the worst writer but he is the most overrated and /co/ hates overrated writers more than the worst ones. That's why his entire Batman run was somehow storytimed during the SoP weekend. I'm not a fan of all of it as well but I still can't believe that happened. It's not exactly a short run. And someone did all of Slott's ASM run that same weekend.
>>
>>150832503
>everything he writes is muh depression or muh ptsd (It was ok with stuff like Miracle Man but that shit got old after a while)
>wrote Batman so terrible that it make /co/ respect Scott Snyder
>did a rug pull on Batman marrying Catwoman and then hid away from comic con like a bitch when fans didn't like it
>Heroes in Crisis was the worst DC deconstruction since Identity Crisis
>Will be ruining Green Lantern with his shitty screenplay
>>
>>150832702
>disregards characterization
It is really funny when you go back many decades and see how so many popular writers have always disregarded characterisation, even in big storylines people love. It's like built into the DNA of comics. To be clear I'm not defending him, I just find it funny how it has always sort of been that way. It's a cycle. I think comics have always had peaks and troughs like that.
>>
>>150838679
We know that's not true. He has basically said he left because of 5G and this is confirmed with Tynion doing the set up for the Joker-killing-Bane idea with Joker War. The only person saying otherwise is Rich Johnston.

>when Batman dropped below 100k sales for the first time ever
>DC's post-Crisis on Infinite Earths revamp was a major success, raising sales 22% in the first year, and DC beat Marvel in direct market sales for the first time in August and September 1987.[9] The four "Year One" issues were no exception to this. Two years before the relaunch, Batman had all-time low sales of 75,000 copies per month; "Year One" sold an average of 193,000 copies an issue, numbers not seen since the early 1970s.
Batman in the 70s and 80s had hit lows, lower than 100k.
>>
>>150840938
>Batman in the 70s and 80s
Batman in the 80s*
Not 70s.
>>
>>150840886
Huh? Bro he literally had just said he was going to do 100 issues and then was kicked off. 5G didn’t happen until over a year after he was off the book.

He was absolutely kicked off and his run was finished in Batman & Catwoman which was only delayed because of Mann’s back issues. Why lie?
>>
>>150841273
That's incorrect. Didio was already setting up 5G by then.
-Bendis getting hired was so he could helm 5G which was a vehicle for adult Jon. Didio had liked what he did with Miles. Event Leviathan would for example lead into Damian becoming the next leader of Leviathan and abandoning the Robin mantle.
-Deconnick and Fraction and Rucka were all hired to take part in 5G with them + Bendis doing a 5G weekly. Since none of the regular DC writers wanted anything to do with 5G.
-Tynion's Joker War would have lead to Joker killing Bane since Bruce releases him from the handcuffs at the end to kill Bane for him.

Basically King + Tomasi/Jurgens were all kicked to the curb for 5G setup and not for sales. The only person saying sales at the time was Rich. We know now from a variety of sources that much of the stuff happening at DC pre-Covid like so many people leaving the company was because of 5G.
>>
need this hack to get off wonder woman already
>>
>>150841491
Damian becoming the next leader of Leviathan looks not the worst idea because Damian is recently kinda boring.

Everything Tom King writes is just him venting. Turning every character into a therapy session soapbox for himself. Also my conspiratorial brain get help see something suspicious with his CIA background & the stuff he writes like that terrible Rorschach book having political assassination attempts & shots to the throat. Coincidence? Maybe.
>>
>>150841491
King was on Batman for almost 2 years after bendis took over Superman/action. You’re not even remotely close.

King was kicked off of Batman because of sales. Full stop. There is literally no debating that. It has nothing to do with 5G and had nothing to do with bendis taking over Superman/action.

Eh, flash fan(outside the snyderverse/CW fans that at best read Williamson or manapul run)shit on republican's Wally or Geof's Wally/Barry or Miller's Superman but still likes those comics or said that is just an elseworld.
King can work with characters, we see It with Superman , Supergirl or Dick Grayson , and some people can ignore his hickmanitis of ignore the character past with omega men , but his work with JLI, Flash and Batman can't be excused with "others done that too"
>>
>>150838679
Anon, there is a reason Jason todd exist and there is a reason Dick barely was in the batbook till mid 90s.
Batman book didn't sell that much, dick was a bigger deal even post crisis with the titans.
>>
>>150836453
He was assigned to the Mexico border which for CIA means he washed out
>>
>>150832503
Aside from his bad writing he’s a genuine piece of shit

Is simultaneously the most overhated seeley and king comic. Which is impressive because seeley is only marginally less awful of a writer.

Im so goddamn sick of meme opinions you shills push. Like “daredevil has never had a bad run” or “bendis is good at street level”. King has never written a good comic.
>>
>>150846780

Don't forget dragging Steve Ditko's name and calling him mental in interviews promoting his shitting Watchmen sequel with a Ditko pastiche depicted as a lunatic serial killer. (Not that Steve Ditko wasn't crazy - he was, but his craziness should be celebrated, and regardless, the likes of modern creators like King aren't fit to lick his boots)
>>
>>150848847
Bendis isn't good at anything.
>>
he starts with a story he wants to tell, before even knowing the characters hes allowed to work with
so the story will be told whether he's writing Wonder Woman or Grundy
and he's not going to twist the story to better fit the characters but the opposite
>>
>>150848983

>>
>>150850525
