Ever noticed how comics don't seem "cool" anymore in the traditional American sense? When they try to go back to those 80s-90s vibes of natural masculine appeal and epicness, it comes off as trying to hard to the point of being insincere parody, irony drenched, or like just really stupid shit that's more anime like giving Batman a mech samurai suit or something
>>
>>150887831
Because the creative fields have rejected the dudebros who dominated them and given them to women and gays who don't understand what men think is cool
>>

Shut UUUUUP STOP LONGING FOR THE PAST
>>
>>150887831
The consequences of chasing that mysterious other demographic they haven't got yet, thinking the one they had would remain.
Greed and hubris
>>
>>150887831
Absolute Batman?
>>
Because the people now writing and drawing comics either grew up during an age in which this coolness was demonized as evil or helped teach the younger ones it was evil in the first place

and since that evil sincerity was replaced with irony and nostalgiawank, that’s all that’s now known
>>
>>150888295
Would definitely fall under the criteria of "insincere parody".
>>
>>150887831
Wasn't that what Cates wrote?
>>

Cares is iffy, I think he's genuine but also kinda tasteless so it comes off as questionable. Like Knull seems like the kind of idea from the 90s, with shit like Onslaught, but it somehow feels like it would have been rejected then. A god of symbiotes in the 90s probably could have had a similar concept, but it'd probably be some big xenomorph buggy goo thing not a Jrpg final boss

Absolutely

Luthor Strode wasn't that long ago, that counts.

Probably some comics I haven't read qualify. BRZRKR is one I haven't read.

https://scarygoround.com/steeple/

Reverend Penrose from Steeple kind of counts. It's a comic that's comedic but it's not like the character himself is a criticism of tough guys per se. He's right some of the time and wrong some of the time. His antics are exaggerated to comedic degree because the comic is supposed to be comic.

Concerted effort to remove straight (white) male interests and spaces, heroes, opportunities, fantasies etc. it's why they removed rock music from the pop sphere, and have made a big push for country music that offers no empowerment while also still "diversifying" even it

Past was objectively better than now in every way that matters.

>>
>>150892493
If by checked out you mean "retarded" and "gay" then yeah.
>>
>>150887831
>big muscular men not afraid to flaunt it
Mortal Kombat is too "gay" for zoomers, because they're brainrotten and just associate this aesthetic with gachimuchi and gay sex.
>>
>>150892570
Seems like you got a lot of gay sex on your brain, mister
>>
>>150892519
>Actually white knighting Absolute Batman
Ok Snyder
>>
>>150892590
No, but I've seen more than enough people claiming Shao Kahn looks "gay".

I owned a few Mortal Kombat comics in the mid 90s, My mom would buy a random multipack of comicbooks from the grocery store, I had a lot of random shit, had a Thanos comic, some space age comic where the main party was being led through a silver age looking space station full of bed pods full of couples going at it. I have no idea what that comic was
>>
>>150893190
Eh it's alright. I'm more just agreeing with this anon >>150888555 that it's insincere
>>
>>150888342
Well...time to dare to be evil.
>>
>>150887831
Most comics had nothing to offer besides looking cool though. The Magic the Gathering comics (e.g. Ice Age) looked absolutely epic for example but the lore itself is kinda meh.

I’d love to, but unfortunately I doubt the industry shares your sentiment :(
