I'm worried that after I watch Ren & Stimpy that everything that comes after will pale in comparison. Should I just get over it and watch the damn show? I've watched every other major show.

Then the episodes moving forward are basically just billy west's cavalcade of booger jokes. The designs look no better than early dexters lab/courage the cowardly dog, and the writing's very hacky (lets bring back gag characters for entire episodes! and add a bunch of dooky jokes!!!!)After John got fired, the talent spread over to cartoon network. Watch any cartoon cartoon and you'll see shit just as good as the best of Ren & Stimpy. Also eene exists and it's overall just a better cartoon.
I felt the same way after watching Rocko, all the other Nicktoons (except for Angry Beavers) just paled in comparison (I never watched Ren and Stimpy on free tv)

>>150915479Ren & Stimpy was the blueprint for pretty much all television animation that came after it, it was made at a time when episodic tv cartoons with golden age cartoon influence and surreal humor were something new and unique, then you got stuff like Rocko and SpongeBob that were influenced by it, then you got the shows influenced by those shows, etc. I recommend it, the Games era isn’t as good but there are a couple of gems from it here and there like Blazing Entrails. Looking at all this animation really makes me want to draw, it’ll forever be the gold standard for television animation for me and nothing can truly compare, I’m a huge fan of all the artists that worked on it too, Jim Smith and Chris Reccardi especially.

That being said, it's definitely unhinged. If such things are not your style, you might not like it.I really miss shows like this with absolutely no connecting plot. Everything today seems to need to have some form of continuity or larger world going on. I don't hate those things mind you, they can be so great. But you used to have series that solely focused on being funny. It's nice to just put some random ren and stimpy on and not have to think about what happened last time or listen to little lore drops.
