Comics people pretend to like, for ''nerd'' cred or any other reason.
>>
I mean I genially like sandman and nothing Neil does can take that away.

I hate this meta shit. Some big books are popular and well liked for a reason, they are good but they become overhyped and people act like they are the best thing ever. Then idiots buy into overhype. Either they call it bad because their overhyped expectations don't meet reality. Or they appeal to the authority of a book regardlessly of whether they like it or not.

People really ignore the context too. A lot of the best books of the 80s/90s were made into a life raft after comics crashed in the 90s, people clung onto them as being great and making the medium relevant even when things were falling.

People talk far too much about the meta conversation or comics rather than the comics themselves.

Nerd credit?
Anon, its got real crossover appeal.
Its an illustrated short story where each illustration is meaningful.

Hes twisted. But if you've read hus works and even a little about his private life you wouldn't be surprised.

people do pretend to like it but it's also not especially hard to like, a lot of crowd pleasing midwit tropes and good art.
>>
>>150916137
Winner. This shit is way more boring than Gayman's tripe. If you didn't grow up with it, you're just pretending to like it.

Nice buzzwords

What's the appeal to Sandman? It always felt like an angstfest for 13 year old girls.

60s Marvel is gold, specially ASM. Get out

Strips like Peanuts and Krazy Kat and Calvin and Hobbs.

>What's the appeal to Sandman?
The first arc was fine but after that it definitely felt more literature inspired, a mix of characters, mythos, some good ideas. It isn't really an angst fest like you describe.
>>
>>150917563
It's ass.

Maybe it's just the art or the people in high school whom I saw talking about it the most.

Comics that are always recommended here, and for a good reason. They filtered you. Not every single one of them is good, but generalizing it when a handful of great runs exist is dumb

>>150917658
Oh it is one of those threads. Alright

FTFY

>>150917682
Getting this upset in this threads just show how immature you are. Notice how nobody else feels the need to make posts like yours about comics they like but are posted here?
>>
>>150917672
Nope.
Cope.
>>150917682
>Oh it is one of those threads. Alright
The OP didn't tip you off? Retard.
>>
Honestly there are some people who only go to comic stores on “free comic book day” and it was always so embarrassing to see.

I feel like reading IDW or Dark horse comics is the bare minimum to show you have some kind of interest in the medium
>>
>>150917725
Yes you are
>>
>>150915506
You’ve got it twisted, now people are pretending to hate it to avoid being tarred with the same brush as Neil
>>
>>150917785
>I feel like reading IDW
>bare minimum
IDW is floated by licenses, that's like peak casual even if the type of people releasing them aren't casual nerds in general. Like if IDW Transformers was a show and not a comic, all those readers would rather watch the show, they have no interest in it as a comic specifically, it's just a vessel to consume more of the franchise they like.

Hardcore projection there, faggot.

Morpheus is the most angsty emo MC one could imagine.

Tom King's comics.
>>
>>150918562
I recently read his Brave and the Bold Vol 1 and I was kind of blown away by how gay it was
>>
>>150918562
The only single people I have seen saying they like a Tom King comic were palestinian flag troons saying that they like WoT to pretend they read comics and own the chuds.

I do like this comic. In fact it's the only Morrison run I don't think is overrated

It's overrated. So is Doom Patrol and the Bat Epic.

Overrated means it's an acclaimed series in critical and/or popular circles, but it doesn't deserve it.
>>
>>150915506
plenty of people pretend to like comics in general
>>
>>150921270
They deserve it. They're better than your personal favorites.

Wrong and wrong. Keep coping, though.
>>
Frank Miller's Daredevil.
>>
>>150915506
It did stand up as a high concept fantasy, and it was subtle with it leftist takes comparing to what we get these days.

You really appreciate how well put together was Morpheus' characterization when you watch Netflix reduce it to a stuck-up jerk with lame flaws that still can change and doesn't really need the elaborate suicide by proxy plot he is already setting up for some reason.

While Gaiman is a pseudo that allows his leftism to have blind spots on things that undermine his story (he wants to make Shakespeare revolutionary with a story about supernatural being becoming human, but the Gospels had already existed before him), but he is still more worth reading than most of crap that comes this days.
