Why does everyone like Batman?
Why is he considered "cool"?

It can't be the dark broody gritty attitude, because campy Batman has its fair share of fans
It can't be the tech, because unarmed Batman is still cool as fuck
It can't be the "le ordinary man slapping a God" narrative, because some of his best runs are against fellow street level villains
It can't be the whole lone whole I work alone persona, because everyone loves his relationship with Alfred and Gordon
It can't be the environment, because he works just as well even outside of Gotham (ie, space adventures with the League and he's still somehow always the coolest dude in the room)
It can't be the ninja martial arts fighting skills, because even Bruce sitting down in front of the Batcomputer is aura farming

So what's the secret sauce?
How does he do it?
>>
>>150916810

Part of it is simply that DC pushes him ten times harder than anyone else.

He's the only cape that actually bothers to look cool
His trauma is something that people who've experience life can understand and vibe with
His original premise of being a caped crime fighter trying to dismantle high level criminal organizations(the mob) rehabilitate his psych cases(Dent, Catwoman, Harley Quinn, Clayface, etc) gives him a unique character concept that wasn't really seen before
The general mix of horror, sci-fi, 30s New York pulp, that his world represents.
He's just got a lot going for him.
>>
>>150916810
It is Sherlock Holmes mixed with el Zorro with dostoievski 's philosophy for Kids
The level of coolness is too high
>>

>Why does everyone like Batman?

I don't like him, in fact I despise him.
>>
>>150916810
because he's pulling from both The Shadow and Zorro, and everyone forgot about The Shadow and Zorro because the IP holders for both are assholes who would rather sit on the rights to the characters than do anything with them
>>

>He's the only cape that actually bothers to look cool
Wrong

Contrarian tranny
>>
>>150917251
The Shadow is vastly overrepresented in the "inspired Batman" diatribe
if we're going to mention the Shadow we may as well mention Sherlock Holmes and Dracula, as those two character concepts inspired both Lamont and Wayne.

No, I have my reasons, also enjoy your new issue of Absolute So.yman fighting against the chuds.
>>
>>150917200
I would prefer not to

You kind of answered your own question OP. One of his main appeals is the sheer versatility central to his character and setting. There's something for everyone. I'll also say that among all comic book characters, his design is uniquely suited to the medium. His ears, his shape, his shadow, his logo, his city are all perfect for instant classic panels and covers.
>>
>>150917316
so why then?
>>
>>150917316
>No, I have my reasons
Yeah, retarded ones, /pol/troon.

>>150916810
>Why does everyone like Batman?
Because he was in a bunch of movies that people liked
>>
>>150917446
Nope
>>
>>150917257
The other anon exaggerated, but there is some truth to this point.
>>
>>150917446
Batman was the second highest selling comic in the 40s and 50s.
Him and Superman were the only 2 DC books that made it through the contraction of comics in the wake of the Wertham trial
>>
>>150917413
>Is toxic towards Jason Todd treating him like shit
>Is a moralfag with everyone that doesn't follow his rules despite him being the reason that the Joker has killed hundreds
>Saves his bull the Joker from dying many times
>Tries to Manipulate everyone around him, take that time he kicked the shit out of Dick Grayson because he told him the truth about Jason Todd

I have more reasons but you won't read probably. I rejoice on every single bad thing that happens in his life.
>>
>>150917307
King Arthur also inspired The Shadow, and then later Batman.
>>
>>150916810
Because he's so empty as a character and the heroic ideal is so lacking in american fiction that you can project anything you want onto him and if woukd work.

The shadow is functionally superior as an avenger and hero.
Zorro a better fighter against corruption
Phantom the better two fisted hero

Batman is just the obf thst gets the pass and push.

He's just got a lot going for him
How has it not been replicated? All of Batman rip offs fail and can't grow outside his shadow. Even the ones in DC flop like Green arrow when compared to Batman. What makes Batman such a great character that his popularity can't be replicated. Superman has some ripoffs that gain some popularity like Homelander and Invincible but Batman ripoffs all fail.
>>
>>150917587
You're not wrong. Batman is a kind of horror monster and a headcase himself though.
>>
>>150917726
Nite Owl is Blue Beetle
>>
>>150917602
not to mention the fact that Lamont Cranston, too was inspired by El Zorro, who in turn was inspired by La Fantomas
trace this shit back and you get The Scarlet Pimpernel
>>
>>150917683
> heroic ideal is so lacking in american fiction
Wrong
>>
>>150917750
yes, but Blue Beetle, Peter Cannon/Thunderbolt, and The Question were both inspired by Batman, and all three characters inspired Nite Owl and Ozymandias and Rorschach respectively

>Nite Owl has Batman's gadgets, gizmos, silhouette, and friendly nature
>Rorschach has Batman's broodiness, creepiness, schizo tendencies, and violence
>Ozymandias has Batman's brains and body and empire
>>
>>150917800
and if we go back further...
>Scarlet Pimpernel was the first masked hero
>The Count of Monte Cristo was the first fictional character of note to use multiple identities
>Frankenstein was the first sci-fi "super-man"
>>
>>150917704
Batfag desperately defending his husbando. Don't worry no one will fund your bat joker slash.
