This DVD is enhanced with Disney Fastplay
>>150927168Cherish these ancient times, for they shall never come upon us again
What did fast play do? Skip previews? Menus? Play at 2x speed?
>>150927168>forced to watch ads on your own fucking DVD
>>150928232I might be wrong, but I think you just have to stick the disc into the player and it'll play ads and then the movie, so mom doesn't even need to spend another second getting the movie going.
>>150928761No, man. You don't understand, the adverts were the best part.I doubt zoomers and gen alpha will be nostalgic for the midroll ads for their youtube kids videos.
>>150928894>the adverts were the best part. Not after the hundredth time watching them. Not letting the owner of the movie skip to the main menu after the copyright bullshit was cunt behavior. VHS was dogshit too, but retards keep jerking it off despite it being a pain in the ass and completely rendered obselete by DVD unlike other tape formats.
>>150929119>Not letting the owner of the movie skip to the main menu after the copyright bullshit What kinds of DVDs were you working with? Skipping to the Main Menu was always an option on my end.
Sometimes you skipped it by pressing the menu button and sometimes you skipped it with the fast forward button. There was no way to tell.
>>150928232It just skipped the menu so the movie would start playing after the ads. Kinda like a VHS.
>>150927168>enhanced Lol this literally meant nothing. Same with those Diamond Editions they'd release throughout the 2000s.
>>150928894A 2009 DVD is zoomer, retard. Let me guess you think Xbox 360 is retro.
>>150927168Ooooh... SHINY...
>>150929119>Not after the hundredth time watching them>my Jurassic Park blu-ray that automatically updates its ads
>>150928232The movie just started after the ads were done without taking you to the menu.
>>150931514Jesus, that's fucking nuts.
>>150931514You know, I own Wreck-it Ralph on 4K, and the only way to access the extras is to use the Blu-Ray, and the thing is that it still has all of the 2013 trailers for then upcoming Movies, and surprisingly the Gravity Falls trailer was technically the first time the series was on Blu-ray (and probably home media)
>>150930830The Xbox 360 came out 20 years ago. It's retro no matter how much that makes you upset.
>2000s DVD>Doesn't allow you to skip ads and/or company logos before a movieWas there anything more frustrating about DVDs?
>>150928761I never thought about it but that really is fucked I had to see a bunch of bullshit on my VHS tapes before getting to the movies. I pop in a movie, I should see the movie. Three year old me might have been okay with seeing clips and bits of other movies and an advertisement for a Toy Story video game, but I know now I'd hate it.
>>150928232What is going on with cable networks now faking hd content by playing movies at 1x? Do people really not know what they're looking at when they see this? I was at a hospice ward last month watching Ghostbusters and the hospital's cable tv provider was doing that, and that shit was just...wrong. I mean, it was wrong for ME because 1: I LOVE Ghostbusters and know that movie inside and out, and 2: I knew that was a originally a grainy movie, having come out 5 years after I was born and all, and seeing it look crystal clear set off my BS meter immediately. I got wise to that trick back when I bought my first dvd player back in 1999.
>>150927168I hate to admit I'm nostalgic for these...
>>150929972That's part of the fun!
>>150930012>>150931547well fuck i never actually knew what it meant. nearly 30 and im still learning shit everyday
>>150928232Fast play skipped the menus and went directly to the previews. You had to click to skip the previews
>>150927168*Gisnep's Fast Play
>>150934406You never stop learning!

Fuck it! Post your favorite DVD/VHS ads!https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KIYu-0IKic0
>>150932632Anon I have no idea what you're saying here, does>playing movies at 1xmean something different from playing them at their original speed? Are you talking about motion smoothing? That's something the TV itself does, not the broadcasting network, and you can turn it off (but probably nobody bothers to do so with TVs in public places like that). But I agree it looks fucking horrible.
>>150928761The ads were cool
>>150937162This is actually really cool, I had a Winnie the Pooh CD-ROM game back in the day. I think there was also a Tarzan one and a Mickey & Friends one where you worked Goofy's car wash I vaguely remember
>>150937724only some of them were
>>150933504Own your truth, anon.
>>150927168I never knew what this did as a kid. I tried comparing it to regular play but found no difference. Finding out now that it apparently played everything on the disc back to back, I wonder if I was just retarded back then.
>>150927168Breh, what's a DVD??
>>150940130six seven
>>150937117lol ikr, here's another
>>150927168Now available on DVD
>>150940097This the one
>>150937162I wanted to play the Toy Story Animated Storybook so fucking badly as a kid.
>>150937162Is Disney Interactive still a thing even?
>>150928761>Pay to see a movie at the theater>Force you to watch ads>Pay to see a movie at home>Force you to watch ads>Pirate a movie for free>No adsThere's a lesson in that somewhere
>>150946201Well said, Anon
>>150946201>>150946553Copyright infringement is a sin.

>>150947288>MERCURY FILMWORKS animating a toddler cartoon We used to have it so good, man...
>>150947288Good thing pirates copy and don't steal!
>>150927168Cool
>>150927168Hawt
>>150939978These went a long way in making DVD ads more bearable
>You wanna talk about penis videos?
>>150932134>Doesn't know what "retro" means.
>>150950887Not this stupid argument again.
>>150947288Companies are not "persons", so it's okay.
>>150927168>>150939978>>150940097Man, I remember all of these.
>>150930830When the SNES launched, the Atari 2600 was only 13 years old. When the Xbox 360 was released, the SNES was 14 years old, and it was widely considered “retro.” By that same logic, the 360 is now absolutely old enough to be seen as retro, too.>It's not about age, it's about style and aesthetic. Even by that metric, the industry has changed drastically. The jump from the 2600 to the SNES was massive. The jump from the SNES to the 360 was massive. And the difference between gaming then and gaming now is massive. The kinds of games being made, the design of consoles, graphics, and UI, modern systems don’t resemble the 360 era at all.The Xbox 360 is retro old man.
>>150928761My Rockadoodle tape had an ad for laundry detergent on it.It specifically referenced the film and there was a like a $5 rebate thing if you bought the detergent.
>>150928894too late, I’m already getting wistful about my favorite youtube ads.> that Key&Peele one where they argue over who finished the 5-second ad read first
>>150928761I actually enjoyed it back then.
>>150952971you did?
>>150951171>>150952971sometimes it's interesting to see old commercials someone recorded on their vhs, like local ads
https://youtu.be/nfbRce8pEgM?si=DtqbmTmZQvq8yiWm&t=1299I can't take it bros. I want to go back...
>>150953857I watched a documentary from the '70s the other day that had been recorded off TV and the commercials were a great time capsule. Most of them were for drugs, big pharma has had its claws in America for a long time, huh?
>>150954440Neat find!
>>150951008This. I refuse to feel bad for a billion-dollar corporation. A few people pirating one of their works won't make a dent in their quarterly earnings.
>>150947288So sad that the voice of the pirate on the far right passed away at such a young age...
>>150927168This takes me back
>>150950866L-LEWD!
For me it's:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTRRVovyfBc
>>150937162This one was so weird because they changed the name of the film.https://youtube.com/watch?v=kzMQgDK15fA
I never minded ads on VHS but I fucking hate ads on disc media. With VHS there was an understanding that these things are kind of disposable. They won't be around forever even if you take good care of them. But "muh disc rot" aside DVDs and blu rays will be around a long ass time and they'll just always have these dated advertisements for movies that are "coming soon" and by "soon" they mean "20 years ago."
It saddens me that genalpha won't ever truly understand the value of home releases. The whole WORLD has always been in the palm of their hand
>>150959459mucho gusto
>>150959627Late Gen Z here, I grew up with DVDs, but never desktop computers. All these years later, I hope that Gen Alpha and beyond discover how awesome it is to pirate and own media. With all the stuff that media companies are doing to us, maybe they'll turn against the anti-customer actions; We can only hope.

>>150930830>>150932134>>150951155The 2000s are to now, what the 80s were the 2000s and I'm slowly accepting that. What gives it extra whiplash is that it really doesn't feel like we've progressed that much, and some cases are moving backwards. The media that released in the 2000s don't look that much different than what's releasing nowThenhttps://youtu.be/1TSidCNA7mQ?si=VfMJSn2I3jQgbxpsNowhttps://youtu.be/9PgcAIgpwPA?si=-IKJzIA-wugxtqsuThenhttps://youtu.be/rmN8DHZYNCg?si=7lZSbVfsNIgbvViCNowhttps://youtu.be/mIddsPkdX9U?si=MrfjnsNo6tladYdvIt doesn't help we're STILL stuck int he cycle of 80s/90s nostalgia, as if they slowly becoming less relevant by the day, while everyone in charage ignores everything made after.
>>150959627>>150961186For better or for worse, it's but to us to show them the value of what they lost in some way, the corpos in charge sure as shit aren't going to do it. They're doing their damndest to make us forget the world and make sure we never own anything ever again.
>>150962342I thought Prey was cool, that should've been the one to get a theatrical run

>>150950925>fashion>stylesThis isn’t about dresses from the 50’s. I don’t see anything about gaming in this shitty definition you Zoomies like to spam. Zoom off.
>>150965092>or being the styles of the past>nostalgic or old-fashionedI see you ignored those parts. If something wouldn't be made in that style today or if it is, it's a deliberate nod to a style of the past due to nostalgia, then it's retro. "Style" includes things like computer graphics and product design. Also I'm 37, Anon. It's time to accept that things you liked as a kid are now retro.
