Can someone explain this character to me ? It feels like there's an inside joke that I just don't get.I get this comic can be weird and random but I'm pretty adamant on the fact that the comfortable doug bit has been unfunny from the moment it started to the end of the show, so what exactly possesses the writers to keep it going, like they think someone is enjoying it ?
>>150932029yes and that someone is me I enjoyed itI agree its a bad super played out bit, and yet I still laughed every time he was on screen
>>150932561but why, what's the joke
>>150932029comfortable doug is kinda a shit character really.Chad Dallas on the other hand...
>>150932757fuck youuuuuuu
>>150932029It's one of those things were they try to push a character they find funny and think the audience will find funny as well
>>150932029All the centaur world, the world not the show, characters are kinda meant to be quirky, dumb, & annoying. It's just random humor.
>>150932029>It feels like there's an inside joke that I just don't get.I mean yeah. This character's genesis IIRC involved someone describing a character as being "comfortable like Doug" and it became a whole thing.Anyway he's a tiny bit overdone in S2 but I think we got just the right amount of him in S1.
>>150932029I found myself asking these same questions several times throughout Centaurworld despite enjoying it overall.
>>150932029Someone in the room laughed so they kept it
>>150932029Should have kept his quirk confined to one episode. Nobody needed to keep seeing him.
>>150932662literally lol so random, in the sense he is a high fantasy creature but drawn as an anatomical parody of what a moleman should be, he talks in a funny voice and calls himself comfortable doug
>>150932029I dont see what there is to be confused about. He’s a writers’ pet. Your hunch that there are inside jokes about him among them is probably correct. Sometimes a group of people who have spent time together just kinda mutually get attached to a thing, but when they share it with others it turns out to be a “you just had to be there” situation, and the thing isn’t actually inherently likable on its own. The really sad part is that season 2 was produced before season 1 aired. So they made the unfortunate choice to predict how season 1 would be received and to let it affect the show. They assumed that the audience would love Doug as much as they did and that he’d be a fan favorite, so they doubled down on him.
>>150932029I wish i could explain him. It was clear to me someone on the writing team liked him a lot but i have no idea what his deal is, which confuses me as every other character is pretty straightforward.
>>150932029No, what you see is what you get.The more he showed up, the less funny he was. I was exhausted of him by the finale.
>>150932029He was funny the first two times but then he was massively overdone (like all of S2)
A Centaurworld thread has been goin on for THIS LONG with no Wamma/Glendale gooning? We need to fix that PRONTO!
>>150936997well go on
>>150934379p much this
>>150932029Not sure if it's the intended bit but I just took him as "Very german man who makes others uncomfortable with his eccentric behavior"The humor he serves is that he's so out of sync with everyone else that he's in his own world but he's loving his life and so it's hard to call him flawed.>>150934415>>150936504>>150932992He's was fine in the first episode, good cameo in the second appearance, and his part in the season 1 finale was also good. It's after that he becomes unbearable.I think since season 1 and 2 had to be made at the same time they had zero feedback on what the audience wanted for season 2. Rather than just keep writing the same way they did for 1 they got too caught up in attempting to review their work and make predictions on how to handle season 2 to meet fan expectations for which they didn't even have fans yet. Hell it could have been some Netflix studio procedure they were tasked with prepping for season 2 by going over season 1 but since they had no audience yet there was no information to be gleaned. Who knows?Anyway, they correctly guessed the character would be well received but then massively over compensated by trying to use him more.Giving him any sort of central role to play in the main story was a critical mistake. Worse still they gave him special powers and made him important to the plot.
Centarworld is fucking fantastic, but the first few episodes are like drinking bleach
>>150932029nipples
>>150938213I appreciated that when he came back to fight he made use of all the little centaurs >>150932757I think even in show they acknowledge they didn't know that was going to come back around.
>>150938240*but the first few Season 2 episodes are like drinking bleach
>>150939027>*but the first few Season 2 episodes are like drinking bleachcounterpoint, the Horsatia Wighair Beanzs scene
>>150932029Okay Diva
>>150932757That hat looks good on 'im.
>>150938240The very first episode is an intentional filter. They hit you with the hardest stuff first to scare off everyone who can't handle it then start slipping in the kino a little at a time til whoever's left is hooked.
>>150942163cute glenny~
Love the soundtrack
>>150943905Favorite track?
>>150939027I wish to poke Horse in her tum tum
>>150947117Okay but not too hard she might rip a nasty one
>>150932029He made perfect sense in the context of his first appearance, and became a running gag because it was the sort of show where a mildly amusing side character could become a running gag.It ain't deep.
>>150932029Honestly I think it was just an inside joke that got pushed a *little* too far. Everyone's seen this sorta thing, whether in public or while watching a podcast or a group of friends play games, or whatever. One of them make an obvious in-joke, and you have no clue wtf they're talking about but all of them laugh, and you laugh along too, because laughter is sorta contagious like that. Comfortable Doug feels like a character who was created this way, on accident, in 30 seconds when one of the writers or VA's did a little impression of a german dude with a very straight-man way of speaking, and things just sorta happened from there. Clearly it grew on them. As for the character himself and his appearances, Doug does a decent job of breaking up the tension in the S1 scenes he's in, plus his dead-pan deliveries made me laugh my ass off at times ngl. By S2 though it felt like the crew had fallen in love with him, and just like those annoying ass birdtaurs they could have cut out half his scenes and nothing would have changed. Flat Dallas was great though, so retarded it completely caught me off guard
Anyone interested in Mega Dong's new movie?
>>150950178i wasn't aware, but yes.what's it about?
>>150950355It's about fairies. That are--get this--BAD.
>>150938538Seriously. The cartoonists went mad with power at being permitted to draw nipples and to make jokes about nipples. This always happens whenever the restrictions on those guys slackens.
>>150950178>extra attention on the lead voice actress but not the Director I HATE Hollywood marketing
>>150950178YES
>>150932029Sounds like you're not comfortable, anon.
>>150950178I won't have any strong opinions till we see some concept art or teaser material
