Humans can't colonize space either. Fuck, you make me defend fucking Lightyear. I hope you're proud of yourself
>>
>>150934744
I can comfort you by reminding you that the entire movie is a complete conceptual fail. "Hey, what would an in universe Buzz Lightyear movie look like?" Not a moody introspective time fuckery adult drama, you absolute morons. Just a complete and total self own.
>>
>>150934549
Did this REALLY kill the movie on its lonesome?
>>
>>150935158
Fuck no. Buzz Lightyear is very clearly a toy for little boys to run around and yell PEW PEW PEW with, and it was also very clear from the trailers and ads that there was little to no PEW PEW PEW in this movie. It wasn't going to perform well even if they were hetero or never a couple at all.
>>
>>150935537
this but also it looked boring. this is what i imagine the in universe live action adaptation of the cartoon would be like
>barely pays lip service to the designs of the cartoon
>replaces the plot with generic hollywood slop
>keeps winking at the audience despite changing everything
>doesn't keep any iconic voices
this is the movie Andy would shitpost about on 4chan on how it completely ruined his favorite 90s cartoon
>>
Has anyone done a retrospective with any of the production team yet? Do they understand that they fucked up and why? Or do they just tell themselves "psssh, it wasn't that it was a boring movie that didn't fit the media, it was lesbian haters! All those guys who hate lesbians!"

Poppycock. I was there when all 90's lesbians were bisexual supermodels who liked mud wrasslin'.

Allowing dykes to conceive is believable, dykes being good parents is not. Basically every study on same sex couples confirms that.

Because Disney wanted something more "modern" despite the whole point of Buzz is him being a tongue-in-cheek parody of various sci-fi tropes.

We could have got a fun adventure film set in space, taking the fight to zerg in the heart of his fortress & robot army. Hellbent on conquering earth great visuals thrills action sequences. Sick flips aerobatics from Buzz with high stakes putting his life at risk, our last line of defence a truly selfless and brave warrior voyaging into the unknown.

except we got: inclusivity, representatiooonnnn! see me brown, you white do everything girl boss say. also bad guy you from future, you evil white

To be honest, aside from being "stunning and brave," this reveal had practically nothing to do with Buzz Lightyear at all. It felt crammed in just for the sake of it since Alisha and Kiko were only on screen for a short time anyway (especially Kiko). It also felt weird that Pixar was so hellbent on having a lesbian couple in frickin' Lightyear movie, only for that movie to get its shit kicked in at the box office.

>Uzo Aduba: “I'm happy to see Disney/Pixar sort of push through and blaze new trails in this space and I think it really creates the opportunity for children of all ages to dream and see themselves on screen.”

>Producer Galyn Susman said the gay couple in Lightyear was never meant to make headlines. “It’s important to show all of the wonderful people that are around us and represent everybody, including same-sex couples, in our film,” said Susman, who has been a part of Pixar since 1990. “Representation is huge for us, and we want to make connections with as many people as possible. Alisha and her wife have a relationship that lasts an entire lifetime. We don’t have enough movies that show relationships that last an entire life, and that’s aspirational.”

Apparently not because moviegoers weren't as enthusiastic about this movie as Uzo and Galyn were in these obvious puff pieces. Lightyear not only got banned in 14 countries, but it also bombed in theaters, got mogged by Minions three weeks later, indirectly led to Pixar laying off Angus MacLane, Galyn Susman, and several other employees, AND reportedly lost $106 million.

>>150936484
It lost an estimated $106 million and 75 Pixar employees including MacLane and Susman.

>>
>>150936483
Despite not being a die-hard Pixar/Toy Story fan and only seeing a couple episodes of BLoSC, I thought the show was fine for what it was. What happened with Lightyear, however, were clear cut examples of the following:
>Letting the inmates running the asylum
>2010's social rhetoric spilling over into escapism entertainment in damning ways
>Studios being so isolated in their own bubbles to a point where there's an obvious disconnect between them and the general public.

>Ready to continue to fulfill his duty even when his former comrades accused him of treason and he was left alone

Damn, anons, this main character is so cool, I can't understand why you don't like him.
Oh wait...
He's the villain.

Yeh, this cartoon is crap.

I genuinely liked the idea of making "the movie that Andy saw as a kid" but the moment I realized it was styled after a modern sci-fi flick down to visuals and story that were clearly inspired by shit like INTERSTELLAR I lost all interest.
>>
Such an important moment in cinema. I can see why this was Andy’s most favoritest movie ever.

>>150937429
I never actually finished the movie. I seen it multiple times. My sister has a baby, so usually when I visited around the time the movie was on Dinsey+ they would have it playing in the living room. I would sit down and watch some, but usually I'm talking to a family member and we move to the kitchen or backyard. Or they'll just straight up take the movie off if the baby was sleeping by that time.

>>150939362

We never get a follow up on this, but I think the idea is that Sid was supposed to be reformed by being scared straight by Woody and Sid's toys. But, given that Pixar wants to make more Toy Story movies, makes me think he might get revisited. Which sounds shitty.
Really, Toy Story is one of those kind of worlds that shouldn't be fleshed out. The more they give away, the more weird things could get. Forky was just the tip of the iceberg.

Yes, people whining about the lesbians are just single issue focused. The issue that turned people away is that did not look like a fun, action packed 90s movie, it looked like a dramatic 2010s movie. People who watched it went home, shrugged, and said "it was okay, I guess.

>Two women kissing? Why isn't it two men!?
>Why are they both white?
>Wow, you can suspend your belief for the wacky fantasy spaceship, but the idea that two women can have a child is too much for you? Fucking chud.
These people are living satires, and you're doing the same shit they are doing. Refusing to even recognize for even a second "Say, maybe having sodomy in children's film might not be a good idea?"
