As i near my thirties i appreciate family guy far more then i did in my late teens or early twenties and i have absolutely no idea why
>>
Because you haven't actually watched a full episode in years and just see funny clips on youtube that insulate you from the fact that the show's been a flaming dumpster fire since like 2008. They legitimately struggle to make a full coherent episode work for just 22 minutes now.

Oh, in that case it's probably because you're the age those earlier episodes were actually trying to appeal to. So you appreciate those episodes more because they were always meant more for people your age. It was originally intended to appeal to people that were middle-class Americans in their 30s to 40s.

I'd already grown softer on Family Guy after accepting it's a show that refuses to take itself seriously and always keeps a "jokes first" mentality, but something also changed as I grew more admirable of how much job security it provides to the many people working on the show. It's something they all seem to enjoy being a part of, plus even the newer stuff is on average more entertaining than other long-running cartoons.

Anon, I am sorry, but your comment gave me an excuse to go on an esoteric rant.

The number one thing I cannot fucking stand about modern “adult comedy” cartoons is that the fact they’re animated is treated like a complete afterthought. It’s already bad enough that the art is bland, but the moment I can follow 100% of the “story” just by listening without even looking at the screen? It makes me want to commit a hate crime against the first person I see. How the hell is it that I lose absolutelynothingby not watching a cartoon? Why are you even animated if there isnothingabout your show that requires drawings, exaggeration, movement, or creativity? I swear 90% of these “adult comedies” could be turned into live-action sitcoms tomorrow, and literally no one would notice a difference because they aren’t using the medium. This is an animation. Go wild. Use a unique art style. Push visuals. Do something surreal, something impossible. Give me visual jokes, timing gags, insane scenarios, something. But no. Instead, we get scenes in Family Guy where they describe a joke in excruciating detail and then cut to said joke. Why even draw anything at that point? It’s such a disgraceful waste of a medium that can literally do anything. What the hell happened? You can’t watch Harvey Birdman as background noise and get the same experience; even with limited animation, you still have to watch it. You definitely can’t do that with anything from the 1930s–1950s. Those cartoons were alive. Meanwhile, modern “adult animation”? I can just throw on the audio, walk away, and boom, I’ve basically seen the entire episode. Because nothing is happening on screen worth looking at. I remember someone saying that “adult cartoons are written by comedians, not animators.” If that’s true, it shows. Painfully.

I’m just tired of the slop.

It's because Family Guy knows it's just fiction, dumb waste of time that doesn't offer any real value except money to this world. And that applies to all visual animation, except classical arts like theatre. People seethe at Family Guy for being unfunny slop, but Family Guy knows that its entire medium is nothing but worthless slop. That's why manchildren hate it, as it exposes the fact that they've become emotionally connected to pointless garbage that is inherently meant to entertain consumers. Peter Griffin's eyebrows were removed after the first two seasons because they were considered "superfluous," as the show can convey emotion through other means like furrowed brows. The character's original eyebrow design was also unrealistic, with Peter's eyebrows appearing above his hairline and Lois's eyebrows being barely there. Removing them simplified the animation and allowed for a more consistent visual design that was less cluttered and easier to animate.
>Animation choice: The eyebrows were removed as a design choice to simplify the character's appearance and animation.
>Emotional expression: The show found other ways to express emotion, such as furrowing the brow, making the separate eyebrow lines unnecessary.
>Design consistency: The original design was inconsistent and unrealistic, with Peter's eyebrows floating above his hairline. The change made the design more streamlined.

You might know this already but writers have actually been asked now by streaming services to purposefully write their shows so you don't have to watch them to know what's happening.

It's stupid as fuck and came from them noticing the same thing you described where the show is treated as white noise by parts of their audience. Instead of thinking they need to try harder to create something compelling to watch, they instead are going in the opposite direction and thinking they have to cater to that style of person who's just not going to pay attention to begin with, and just want comforting noise of their favorite shows playing.

It's completely counter productive because you're not hooking those people into enjoying the show to reach the point that they will treat it as white noise then. That part is earned by being good to watch first.

Family became completely and totally unwatchable after a certain season. The fact that anyone still has any positive feeling for it I can only chalk up to rose-coloured nostalgia for when there were actually jokes in the show.

The Simpsons became boring and unfunny and not worth watching. Family Guy became completely unwatchable entirely. Worse than boring. It made you wonder if the writers were trying to get fired and just writing retarded bullshit on purpose.

Unless Family Guy somehow got better eventually long after I stopped watching I have to attribute to all of you having COVID-melted microplastics instead of a brain.

Because Brian's character was always about being a pretentious hypocrite. Still it doesn't keep holding itself to the current political thing everytime. The show also make fun of conservationists and take a piss at the americans as a whole, treating everything dumb and cartoonic, something that South Park forgot to be by forcing DRUMPF seasons and boring Randy episodes instead of the kids being dumb kids in absurd adventures, normally involving things they understand jackshit nothing about. It's so bad the show lost it's absurdity and got rid of many cool characters that made it's world fascinating like pic related.
They even made hell and Satan going around DRUMPF shit. It's fucking tiresome and petty. I have more fun with Peter being a fat retard than any of those pretentious try hard shows.
