What else am I missing when it comes to self aware 1990's off-brand cartoon super hero shows?

The Mask animated series

>The Mask animated series

yeah, I guess that counts too. The mask is more anti-hero, but is still considered a super hero. The show is Meta. Samurai Pizza Cats is a meta localization of a Japanese cartoon.

Kinda feels like Big Guy and Rusty the Boy Robot should be up there as well, though it wasn't as overtly comedic as the other example.
>>

the superhero nightclub and superhero IDs did feel very much like venture bros world building.

>Most recurring "The Tick" villain in the comics and the cartoon
>Both live action shows exclude him entirely and instead use "The Terror" as the Tick arch enemy (he would be the second most recurring villain after Chairface still)
Doing a shitty CGI chair for his face can't be that expensive, even moreso when the series is supposed to be comedic
>>
>>150950450
>>150950508
The VB creators worked on the show, so there you go.

Would it be fair to say this show is underrated? I know that The Tick has gotten a few different adaptions, and I know visually it isn't the best, but I feel like this show's writing is a lot better and more memorable than other similar superhero spoofs like Freakazoid or The Ripping Friends or whatever.
>>
>>150958649
I wouldn't say so, considering how well-remembered it is.
>>
>>150947009
Ben Edlund should call up his pals Jackson Publick and Doc Hammer to do a new Tick animated series
make it more "adult" (not edgy)

That would be pretty cool.
Honestly though, the 90s Tick show was pretty adult already. It wasn't edgy, and there's nothing inappropriate for kids, but jokes like:
>BIPOLAR BEAR!
Are clearly gonna be funnier to an adult.
Also, the 90s Tick series is canon to the Venture Bros universe and nobody can ever convince me otherwise.
>>
>>150947009
Why was this show on Comedy Central if it was on Fox Kids originally? Later on, Comedy Central aired reruns, so why did they decide to do that?

>>
>>150950450
Jackson Publick (under his real name) wrote the Tick Spin off comic (karma tornado) but the rumor was that he ghost wrote the last bunch of Tick comics where Tick is finally in New York and has to fight the other Tick guy

>>150947009

His was the second to last live action series. The last one was Peter Serafinowicz Tick.

Definitely on the more serious side, but with plenty of off the wall shit. Very different animals, in my opinion, the two shows don't really compete with each other.
>>
>>150960937
It was definitely a different kind of Tick series from what I was used to. Dot having a larger roll was interesting, but then they gave her super powers. Of course if the theories ever panned out Arthur may have had powers as well, specifically reality warping. I don't know if the idea of Arthur subconsciously creating The Tick works for everyone - I seriously doubt it does - but the idea of a man who feels a deep need to right a great wrong but no actual ability to do so who ends up creating a powerhouse of justice. But The Tick ends up half-baked. Only a sense of justice, but with no actual backstory so struggles to connect with the world and needs Arthur to help him. I think it's compelling.

But it's over now, and ending on one helluva cliffhanger. Really sucks. I feel the same way about Ash vs Evil Dead. Some things are too good to last.
>>
Imagine a Tick Cartoon that set in the Venture Bros universe.
>>
>>150951083
It’s called “scat singing”, you unwashed pleb.
>>
>>150961796
Would there really be that much difference except for characters? Especially the 2016 Tick with Tinfoil Kevin just casually living in the severed head of a giant robot left in the city and part of Jackie Earle Haley's The Terror's plan was secretly running the Brown Tingle Cola Company whose secret formula was a drop of his own pee in every can. The fact that despite being defeated and his connection to the company being uncovered in season 2 they had New Brown Tingle Cola completely free of Terror but also still offered BTC Classic.

I'm still in disbelief he voiced Michelangelo in the '87 TMNT cartoon. You can somewhat hear it, but it's sounds so wildly higher pitch (and close to Cam Clarke) it's hard to believe. It doesn't help that he uses the deeper intonation more often in most roles afterwards.

His Michelangelo is pretty rough these days but understandable given its been nearly 40 fucking years, Tick is lucky since it's "just" his emcee voice
>>
>>150965384
>>150965576
He also used his Tick voice for the Masked Mutant in a Goosebumps audiobook when I was a kid. Blew my young mind. Oh, and Richard fucking Horvitz voiced Skipper.
