Why have cartoons from major networks barely gotten toys within the past twenty years but digital circus gets merch in stores and seems to be selling well? I saw a kid excited to see a pomni plush the other day in walmart and target already has the new wave of deluxe figures out
>>150947470skill issue
>It's not for kids, we swear
>>150947470Digital Circus is an anomaly all around but a lot of it comes down to outreach and popularity for licensees to approach the studio for merchandise deals
>>150947470Because major networks don't tap into the mascot horror well.
>>150947470I bought these fuckers from Target last week.
>>150947470I feel as if the frenzy for merchandise has increased ten fold over the years and that might have a lot to do with it.
>>150947561Kids were asking their parents to buy them toys for R-rated movies in the 80s, anon.
>>150947470Circus is REALLY unique even other GLITCH shows haven't gotten merch licenses like this. Hell I have the "Talking Pomni Plush" from the same company that does these figures. Huge outlier.
>>150947929Tickle-Me Pomni, you say...
>>150947979dont give them any ideas
>>150947470I think this about Adult Swim from time to time. They have a tonne of popular IPs, an older audience with income, likely the ability to work with merch producers. But they don't really produce merch for most of their shows currently beyond some one-off or limited stuff. Finding any Smiling Friends stuff has been surprisingly difficult. Common Side Effects is one of my favourite shows produced in the past few years, there's not much for it beyond some shitty etsy posters though.
>>150947979It's worth it. Instead of random show quotes it has lines as if Pomni is trapped inside the plush.
>>150948010Im shocked at how little smiling friends merch their is. Rick and morty had a ton of merch after only a couple of years and smiling friends is 5 years old now and barely has any toys and maybe a few clothing items and pins from hot topic. Shits insane
>>150948088Yah it's extra annoying because they're giving away a lot of their best merch at conventions that most fans can't attend. And for the one at NYCC they were using a spinning wheel to assign items, so you couldn't even get the item you wanted unless you got lucky lol
>>150947470The networks couldn't capture what kids or fuck even adults want. These newer shows from the online scene like Smiling Friends/Hazbin/TADC and Kpop Demon Hunters exploded because they are new and capture this generation's attention. It's for them. The stuff that networks are making are ideas that are 15 years old. That shit was only interesting when Adventure Time/Regular Show/Gravity Falls were doing it.
Pulling this straight out of my ass but...>big entertainment companies completely give up on making toys>desperate toy companies will snap up almost any old shit they can get a license for
I think it's because very few of those shows have been successful enough to sell merch. Adventure Time and Regular Show did really well and got stuff. Rick and Morty exploded and got a lot of merch. It's usually only CN/[as], Disney and Nick barely make any merch for their shows at all unless they are the heavy hitters. Even then Disney was stingy making Gravity Falls merch and we only got some. The only cartoon they really put toys out for was Phineas and Ferb. I can't tell you the last time a Nickelodeon series got toys. All they care about is SpongeBob.
>>150948708Regular Show toys were shit tho.
>>150948733They were alright. The electronic toys, finger puppets and plushies were good. The figures were ass. Same for Adventure Time. Jazwares was always better at plush and role-play toys than figures.
>>150947470>toys for 4+>despite an animation aimed for teens/adults (or tv-14 according to some standards)
>>150948783I had Terminator and Aliens toys as a kid. Those were R-rated movies and they still made kids' toys out of them and had kids playing with them in the commercials.
>>150947470Because the toys were high priority and their corresponding TV shows were glorified commercials with writers who may or may not have cared about the thing they are stuck with. The cartoons without toys were justified as filler to keep toy line cartoons (and ads) running because having too many toy line cartoons would dilute managing things or cannibalize sales or some shit probably. What happened was that toys started to die out as ipads took over the world and all that was left to the networks were filler cartoons, and they had to straggle along with that as cable was dying. There was nothing they could have done but delay the inevitable because toys couldn't sell anymore (or as much as they used to) and investors are investors. Ben 10's reboot and PPG's reboot were probably an attempt to make a toy market again since they were massively popular back then, but they floundered because the environment could be shifted in their favor. Ben 10 and PPG became filler in the 2010s essentially. But I'm just speaking with no concrete evidence so eh.That said TADC is an anomaly for sure so it shouldn't be used as a standard and also seeing TADC being glazed for having merch makes me extremely uncomfortable because it makes me realize how exploited I was as a kid. I'm a huge Transformersfag, and I'm not really into TADC, so it really is an entirely different perspective to see what happened to me happen to others. Or maybe I'm just butthurt because I couldn't get into TADC idk.
>>150948943could not be shifted*I'm no writer or anything so I know I made plenty of mistakes but god damn it I'm going to correct this one at the very least
>>150948943It's just what's popular. Back when you were a kid action toy shows were huge. Then grossout comedies were huge. Then loreshit comedies was huge. Not indie/analog horror shows are huge. The toy companies flock to what sells. I think if someone tried they could make a cartoon like that it would sell toys but the people with the execution aren't there. Each generation wants something else.
>>150948545>And for the one at NYCC they were using a spinning wheel to assign items, so you couldn't even get the item you wanted unless you got lucky lolThats fucking stupid holy shit. [AS] is mental>>150948708>The only cartoon they really put toys out for was Phineas and FerbThe fact they only make the most merch for their worst show is appalling>>150948943>Ben 10's reboot and PPG's reboot were probably an attempt to make a toy market again since they were massively popular back then, but they floundered because the environment could be shiftedOr maybe they failed because they sucked. Also ipad babies sho refuse to play with toys disgust me, millennials should be barred from breeding/parenting because they raised these freaks on tablets
>>15094747099% of merch is consumerist slop
Also i bought all three of the new ones last night>>150949917T. No fun allowed
>>150949942They had ragatha on the back but as far as i can tell shes not out yet
>>150949942>T. No fun allowedMoral fun only
>>150949956
>>150947470Something toy producers never caught onto is supply and demand exists within the world of kids too. Something heavily pushed everywhere doesn’t have the same effect as something smaller thats equally popular. Growing up the coolest stuff other kids had that wasn’t something expensive like a bike or console was always imported or bootleg merch from mall booths, swap meets and fairs. If you had japanese pokemon cards for trade and a south park t-shirt some teenager made in his garage you were a total badass.

>>150949990>giga chad>crucifix>kiwi tard>reddit logoThanks, ive never seen a more punchable reaction image in my life
>>150948943>and also seeing TADC being glazed for having merch makes me extremely uncomfortable because it makes me realize how exploited I was as a kid. I'm a huge Transformersfag, and I'm not really into TADC, so it really is an entirely different perspective to see what happened to me happen to others.Thats fucking retarded anon. Hating merch and other fun things like that and saying its "exploiting kids" is the most soccer mom commie moralfaggot opinion one can have. Its like that loser who stopped working on kenner star wars because he felt that way and some article i read trying to praise him for it made me want to go out and break the knee caps of the journo who wrote it. I hate how people have to be on some moralist high horse about other peoples innocent hobbies such as toy collecting.
>>150950013
>>150950062Im at a point where i want to see AI generated rekt videos of the gigachad dude getting beheaded or something because ive seen so many shitty opinions associated with him over the years
>>150950070I have those but the file size is too large for 4chanGigaWINS however...
>>150950076Youre almost as annoying as wojak posters and just as cancerous as frog posters
>>150947470The major networks are cheap risk-averse fuckers who believe there's no ROI in investing in tie-in merch, not even goddamn plushies, apparel or acrylic standees.
>>150950088>almost as annoying as wojak postersFunny thing about where I got them from...
>>150950129What is ROI? Also these networks are retarded
Yes yes.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WKjxeZo74Wg
>>150947470I can’t wait to see Lackadaisy merch in stores. I need an Ivy plushie.
>>150950025Plus, is it really 'exploitative' when the merch is of good quality? I can only speak for stuff sold through Glitch Store, but Murder Drones plushies I got are well-detailed and finely made, far from what one can get from your typical plush store.
>>150950137return on Investment, basically getting back the resources you spent doing something, in this case putting the merch department to work
>>150950203OP was saying kids like him were being exploited by buying merch, not the workers making them were being exploited.
>>150950152Seeing skibidi toilet merch fly of the shelf is cathartic in the sense that its payback to the mainstream animation industry for ignoring cartoon merch and action cartoons for so long>>150950163I dont understand the appeal to lackadaisy. It was boring to me>>150950203Glitch merch is of good quality and even the moose toys TADC merch are of good quality as well>>150950204Whats the point of having a merch department then if they refuse to use them?
>>150950236OP here, i never said that it was other anons saying that bullshit. I even bought the toys here see >>150949942. What i was complaining about was official cartoon channels ignoring merch potential for their shows within the past decade
>>150950238>Whats the point of having a merch department then if they refuse to use them? They do their jobs, just not on inferior properties like TV cartoons.
>>150950258>They do their jobs, just not on inferior properties like TV cartoons.Oh yes because making products based on garbage shows like andor or GOT or fucking euphoria is SO much more important them cartoons amiright?
Merch sales when you have a good show. Major networks have failed to put out good shows for a while now.
>>150947561Kids will worm their way into almost anything that peeks their interest. I remember seeing a photo of some kids having a madness combat themed birthday.
>>150949942What kind of restaurant sells you fries in a clear plastic bag?
>>150950936I think the joke is that the bags so greasy its semi translucent. That happens sometimes to bits of the bags at mcdonalds
