The writer instinct is to follow the three act structure, but those two aren't the focus and Amy's little arc is better suited for a proper A or B plot, not the framing. Both it and the main story end up a little thin because of it.I'd also say that transitioning between speakers should be happening mid-story. Vector's gimmick of hyperdrama and Charmy's gimmick of skimming details end up hurting the narrative because they're evenly segmented. Have Vector build up to the meeting for two pages with melodrama for Charmy to cut him off by summarizing the job very quickly and cap it with a joke ("and I DIDN'T break the vase!!"). This lets Espio serve as the main storyteller; his gimmick is still kind of funny, but he's the most reliable narrator and can get through plot points easier. It also allows for fun inter-character dynamics like Charmy of Vector cutting in to embellish or get details wrong (Charmy: AND THEN ESPIO SUMMONED A HUNDRED NINJA CLONES!!! / Vector: And he stated that thief down. Knew he was no match alone. Maybe if I was there-).Good idea, but too married to the art gimmick to capitalize and make this a 10/10.

I really enjoyed the story in Shadow Generations and loved the prologue animation and SRC had really great rival dialogue. Sonic should not be willfully spending time with Amy over listening to cool stories from his friends.The artstyles sans Charmy were worse than the comic's baseline. They weren't charming (besides Charmy's) and felt like a cost saving measure more than anything. Like how the last few episodes of evangelion were held back by budget constraints.Amy is out of character here. She's whiney and annoying and cares more about stringing Sonic along with relics than immersing herself. Amy is supposed to be passionate. None of that was on display here.I've oft characterized Amy as an 'anchor to the wind', sometimes earnestly and sometimes to play Devil's Advocate. Nowhere is that more true than here. She only exists in this story to nag and drag Sonic around. Her universe centers around and revolves around Sonic.I hate this issue of the comic.Sonic feels OOC (Why is he willingly spending time with Amy, anyways? He's the wind. Not some glorified boytoy). Another thing is that the whole idea of a public museum made of stolen artifacts doesn't work at all. Did the victims never report the theft or search for it? They should've just had to vulture be a red-herring.Have the thief place the lotus there to trick Espio into thinking that it was stolen by the museum (he states that he must've somehow overlooked it in his earlier patrols, so it being planted there would work) This leads the Chaotix to jump to conclusions (it's supposed to be one of their first cases, they can make mistakes and be brash) and accuse the vulture, leading to the thief getting an opening to grab the lotus and a different artifact and escaping with it. Luckily, Vector has a moment of clarity and notices Megani was missing, and then puts two-and-two together and realises the truth. Cue a chase and fight scene that ends with them getting the artifact back, but Enigma escaping. A few taunts are dropped here and there helps solidify a rivalry, and the case is solved. Finally, the story ends with a quick joke that they don't get paid because they damaged the museum during the fight.It's not perfect, but a better mystery, a climactic fight, and not ending with Vector letting a thief (and not a Robin Hood esq thief, but just an actual thief who assaulted Espio) go for no reason would make the story a lot better.

Very good issue. Art continues to be excellent. The references are good, a lot of stuff with Amy and her B story is fun. It really shows how much better the comics have become after leaving archie's super hero style writing. The laid back world building isn't for everyone's taste. Good, the chris-chan level of fans have never said anything constructive about the franchise, IDW should learn to cut them out entirely. Leave them to /sthg/ and twitter. They've already driven most of /sthg/ creative people out and made the general irrelevant to sonic fans. They already are regulars in IDW so using your same logic, you could argue just having someone like Tails show up and call it a special anniversary issue for him makes it one. I never said I wanted Mighty and Ray over characters like Jet, Sage, or the Chaotix. I said I wanted them overa bunch of crossovers when the game is advertised as a Sonic game and it was starting to feel like Sonic was doing good with using more of its characters. A real shame the next big criminal character now that Clutch is bitch-made was reduced to a plot device so that the Chaotix could button up their first case easier. A fourth comic would have given a chance to let her actually steal something instead of just being interrupted while in civilian disguise.As it is, I agree the Sonic and Amy bits were fun but unbeneficial to the script. Also, Charmy has a sloppy gimmick that doesn't jive with the rest of the gang. He should have been a child trying to imitate noir, not just a Crayon comic.Also don't care for the museum politics angle, it's so played out that even back in the 2000s nobody cared anymore. Like, the real dumb part is Charmy turning on his intercom secretly like being surprising is now his gimmick, when he's always so in-your-face that it doesn't sell well as more than a random joke. It turns the conclusion of the plot into a farcical defeat-by-inadequacy rather than a heroic defeat-by-morals or defeat-by-overcoming. Which only seems to fit the rest of the plot because of the superficial comedic stylings, except the story was serious the entire time but told in a silly way. Having a genuinely silly ending to a serious thing simply because it was shown in a silly way ...Is exactly what adults think a thing made for kids is supposed to be, so I suppose mission accomplished? It definitely distracted from how undercooked Enigma is. What do you want to bet that she's got like half a plan between all current writers for what to do with her next appearance? No shot there's more than weak aura farming under those specs.
