I feel like for the last year, I have been seeing an increase in layoffs and rants by unemployed artists saying how they haven't been able to get work for awhile. Is the industry in its death throws or something? If this were any other point, I would just say it's a minor downhill point and a new surge will happen. But it seems like the combination of a failed union strike, failing streaming services, and AI tech is literally killing the industry. Like, this might go the way of video games where only a couple of mainstream places survive and everyone else is left to struggle as an independent.
No mercy for the weak.
>>150951527AI fucks up everything.
>>150951527That’s what they get for associating with the left, pushing agendas, and perpetuating hostility for outsiders, who sometimes simply wanted to help the field through their own contributions.
>>150951571Then you won't get it
>>150951527Go woke go broke
>>150951621Most people in the industry didn't do that, though. There was a silent group of artists who just wanted to work, fill up their resume, and have a steady job. But they were beholden to dumbass producers and executives who thought Twitter was a good way to gauge general reaction, so they promoted only the most insufferable liberal artists to leadership positions to match the opinions on Twitter. The whole industry's reputation went up in smoke in the span of eight years and now there's no way to bring old audiences back.
>>150951527Yes they signed a bunch of stupid union contracts that fucked them and AI is getting good enough that you can do larger productions with less artist. You still need the artist to create the characters and create a database for the AI but a lot of the lower level work is dead.
My favorite brand of AIjeet is the one that makes up claims with zero actual sources
>>150951527Who cares?
>>150951527The should have gotten themselves an actual job within a real career field instead of trying to turn doodling into something. Animation was not even much of a carer in the first place since everyone ends up teaching for a regular paycheck anyway.
>>150951527America's deadnobody wants to invest in these kind of projects because they have to run for years and yearsbut nobody can say what things will be like a year from now, or whether the people who you're employing now will be around in a year from now, and it's not like you can even toe the line on tubby's race card play and just employ white americans from the fucking middle of nowhere because those assholes don't know After Effects from FlipaClip so you'd be paying to train them assuming you could even find any who weren't balls deep in a dog 24/7, and you can't just shift production overseas because you'll get hit with the idiot taxto be clear this isn't a problem limited to the animation industry, it's everythingdead country
>>150951668They should not have remained silent. If they wanted to keep public opinion on their side then they needed to do something about their own from within. Instead they stepped back and let their peers attempt to subvert every corner of American society until all of public opinion is against them as a whole. And I have no respect or mercy for them after doing that. They fucked up, they let their peers try to spread socialism, they deserve to be jobless and penniless too. fuck them all.
Glitch won./co/ lost.
>>150951527Aww, no one stood with animation
>>150952398Kill yourself mike rowe
>>150951527Why does this keep happening and why hasnt someone started naming whos responsible more yet? The fact that people like zaslav can just get a golden parachute for fucking over media should be criminal. Why do execs suddenly hate animation?

So that would be disruption enough on its own.On top of that, the United States is in denial about being in a recession, and the consequences of that recession are rippling outward. Everyone is trying to cut costs, which means consumers are less likely to pay for luxuries they can do without and companies are less likely to pay for expensive animated shows.

>>150952935Orange man did the lockdown and he did the retarded unnecessary tariffs which fucked everything even more, fuck you
>>150952899Coal miners are a bunch of backwoods hicks doing an outdated job. Animation has value unlike what some trailer trash digging up an outdated energy source thats only propped up still for political reasons

>>150953022Indie stuff can be good but i will agree that alot of network shows in the late 2010s onwards were all tasteless vapid slice of life shit which was a cancer
>>150952935The pandemic was a major blow to our economy that we did not recover from, but lets not absolve the guilty here. The pandemic lockdown fucked up america much worse than it did other countries economies, and there is a reason for that: american companies pursue greed harder, and as a result left themselves no margins for error. Any sensible business leaves room for shortfalls or lean times so that when something unexpected happens you can soften or absorb the hit. The cost of doing is is to sometimes leave money on the table because operating at 100% at the edge of your capacity is an enormous risk. But American companies do nothing BUT take risks for maximum profit. When these risks pay off, they make all the money. When these risks do not pay off, they eat shit unless someone bails them out. Yes, the pandemic fucked up the economy and Biden holds some of the blame in that. But you have to also point the finger at the entire fucking post-2008 american economy that has come to depend on and expect to keep all of the profits they make during the good times but make the losses they suffer during the bad times the taxpayers problem rather than just stop gambling with every penny they have.

>>150953198The lockdowns were in 2021, simpleton.
>>150951668Bro, stop this cope, the vast majority of western artists ARE the annoying retards on Twitter, hence why the indie scene is nearly identical to the corporate industry. This "le silent BASED majority" bullshit only works on retards, the only places with a significant number of artists who are not annoying progressive twatter/tumblr types are Asian countries.
>>150953342>Literal spic jobs that do not deserve a living wageIt might surprise you to learn that this very mentality is a big part of why our economy is so fucked right now. Basically, during the Reagan era is when the myth took off that the prosperity of the american citizen depended on them going to college, and armed with a college degree we would be marked for great paying comfy middle class jobs. Any work that didn't require such a degree become, by omission, not a job for "real americans". These non-degree jobs became relegated to lower class people work, either undocumented immigrants or people who were unable or unwilling to go to college, both of them assumed to be equally "undeserving".As these jobs became synonymous with immigrant labor, despite the fact that the majority of such work is done by American citizens, it became politically convenient to target such workers as racist dogwhistles. Punishing brown people, and all of the poor white folks that worked the same jobs as brown people. The fact that they were able to get away with doing this for so long as rotted away the bottom rungs of our economy, leaving it nonfunctional even for american citizens, because we don't care how many white people catch a bullet as long as we are shooting at immigrants when we pull the trigger. If you want things to get better, you can to stop letting yourself be driven by spite to a self destructive degree.
>>150951527Its California and Hollywood imploding. Kids aren't watching cartoons the way they used to. Animation is expensive and time-consuming and AI isn't replacing it anytime soon. That means it needs funding from somewhere. Your favorite cartoons in 90's and mid 2000's were funded by toy companies.
>>150953477and now the USAID tap is turned off, there's no more cartoons about trannies and brown lesbian girls.
>>150953477California not only hasn't come up with financing that makes sense without toy companies (streaming exclusivity keeps proving to be not enough, but they keep trying) but I've yet to see California formulate any kind of response to the fact that Anime is now just as accessible to kids as cartoons are. Demon Slayer and My Hero Academia are on Netflix and get american theater releases, and they consistently make money doing it. Makoto Shinkai movies do the dramatic animation game and are wildly successful even in American markets. Frieren and Apothecary Diaries even broken into the normiesphere more than any cartoon in recent memory. But California keeps making fart jokes for kids with censorship, and fart jokes for adults where the characters can say fuck, and almost nothing else. They still have their heads buried in the sand pretending that anime is a niche, passing fad that they can just ignore until it goes away.

>>150953284This but that is pretty much exactly what actually happened.Post 08 recession they turned working an industry gig into a VERY closed doors friends club. And only friends of friends got anything at all, Now they're fucked and they did nothing but produce ill will for a decade. No one cares how they are hurting at this point, some are cheering it on.
>>150953477>Kids aren't watching cartoons the way they used to. Kids just have no interest in this type of bullshit. Both this show and KPOP Demon Hunters were released on the same streaming platform and one became a mega hit while the other one was so lame it took years after the show ended to finally generate some "woke in my kids cartoon!" controversy.
AI is a boogeyman. There are many factors before even going to AI as to why the industry is in such a bad state. >Inexperienced artists>Highly competitive field>Oversaturated with artists>Outsourced jobsThere are so many people graduating art school with absolute shit portfolios and very limited drawing skills. There are too many artists who simply do not want to network and simply want recruiters to just notice them on social media. There are too many creatives who are new within the industry and feel the need to butt heads and "take a stand". You see so many unemployed artists because frankly, many of these people didn't deserve a spot in the industry to begin with. They got lucky during a thriving bubble, got one or two jobs, and now think they're just as much a part of the industry as people working since the 90's. Look at the fucking quality of pic related's doodle and tell me this person deserves a well-paying storyboarding job at a major studio.
>>150951668>>150953342That anon is not completely wrong. By 2013 or so Twitter became the primary means of landing a studio job. While at the exact same time most companies turned Twitter into their largest source of market research and then got right to work catering to whatever trends were happening on Twitter. Companies were largely blindsided by the insane and ridiculous antics of the obsessed addicted Twitter members and turned their rants into slogans etc. But this was not some targeted scheme, it was out of touch boomers who had no idea what they were taking and turning into advertising campaigns. They just saw cool buzzwords and things teens were into so they took that and slapped it on a sign in a store. For animation industry workers, Twitter was a huge boon since people could network with working professionals directly, and post their artwork at the same time in the same space. Social media being social media fucked with this whole plan since the names with the biggest follower counts and highest popularity tended to be the terminally online Twitter schizos, so they floated to the top much faster. Lots of other people saw this and imitated them and being a Twitter schizo became a form of playing the game to get a job. Normal people keeping their opinions to themselves never cold compete since they were not noticeable enough. It's an unfortunate accident how things fell into place when everyone turned to social media for all things in the late 2010s.
>>150951527It's not just animation. It's not just the arts. It's the entire economy, collapsing into ruin, all because we couldn't bring ourselves to vote for a diversity candidate. We have no one to blame but ourselves.
>>150954553As a democrat, a big share of the blame here also lies with the DNC for running bad campaigns for bad candidates that consistently refused to run on the economy or fixing it.They could have run Sanders, they ran Clinton. They rand Biden even though everyone KNEW he was too old just by looking at him. Trump was the greater of two evils, but the Democrats didn't make a compelling case.
>>150954553People say this but the other day, I found out thousands of people are paying for a fucking bed subscription, so clearly there is some form of money exchanging happening somewhere because how are all these people affording this shit and someone must be profiting off of it.And it's not just beds, there's many stupid subscription services that seem to be doing well.
>>150953467The 80s was the start of all of that >Get a REAL job!bullshit, and now suddenly you are a drug addicted, loser, piece of shit, waste of life if you are not working in an office in a suit and tie. This is also when the boomers really started treating wagies like shit too since now in this mindset, they deserve it. Either for actually being a drug addict loser, or not applying themself and going to college to get an office job. It also influenced the bullshit degrees since landing a degree was more important than seeing if it had any actual career path whatsoever. In the 90s getting a degree was the single most important thing ever, boomers assumed simply having one was the key to a perfect upper middle class life forever.
>>150954553Why not blame the Democrats for constantly fielding unqualified diversity candidates? They share the blame for wanting to virtue signal with everything they do, actually making Trump into the superior candidate.

You're right about the activists, but I'm starting to think that they infiltrated by convincing older execs that they are following their methods and that lgbtbipoc is just the trend of this era. >>150954814>Toys and comics are nothing but 80s nostalgiaKids are still playing with classic Marvel, TMNT and dinosaur toys. Its more like what the /a/ anon said,>>150953691California tries to pretend they don't know what kind of cartoons bring boys in front of the screen.
>>150956535>Kids are still playing with classic Marvel, TMNT and dinosaur toys.To be fair, what other option do they have? Whats an 8 year old going to do, boycot Spiderman because he has the social awareness to know that he is trapped in a perpetual bubble of 80s nostalgia by boomer media conglomerates? He sees a toy he plays with a toy.
>>150951527>let woketards maxist faggots from tumblr into positions of power to remove anything with any semblance of positive masculinity >men and boys the actual core audience of cartoons get alienated and quit cartoons after noticing how much of a estrogen factory it's become>act surprised when your industry is imploding
>>150951527>Alienate and attack your paying customers (parents and manchildren)>Scoff at the idea of merchandise to help fund your show because that would change it from high art into a toy commercial>Investors pull out because they aren't making back money>The industry shrinks to compensate>No jobsThey'll have to bring in the rocket surgeons to solve this one.
>>150953314>Source? Oh right. You don't have one. Silly me.Give it a rest, femcel.
>>150954553I wouldn't vote for Kamala with someone else's dick.
>>150955458Are you just retarded or something? Why are you mad at dems for overdoing the measures and telling people to get the shot if you literally saw how bad things got because the reps weren't doing enough and reps were also telling people to get the shot. Are you a bot with a very crappy guidebook or are you just dumb as shit?
>>150955815>literal insane person
>>150955610>>150955653What is your opinion on Xi and Putin?
>>150956535Anon, MCU, as well as the cartoon we all saw the faggotry and creepy as fuck middle aged foid aimed xmen97, has ruined it's own IP.They have Deadpool. But Deadpool and Wolverine had to bend the knee to Disney and the sets were greenscreens and fucking cheap combined with strong bitch villain and unironic faggotry. Not edgy faggotry as a joke. And parents no longer trust american animation. Hell most if not all of the views of lilo and stitch and inside out 2 were fucking money laundering tricks. >>150957034t.paid political shillt.vaccine shillWe all know what happened. And we all know there's going to be a massive nuremberg style trial and public executions within our lifetimes over this.
>>150954525i wish the industry wasn't dependent on one shithole website to get a job
>>150957034>people ITT complain the republicans started all this shit>now we're back to "they didn't do enough"now tell us how there were never any mandates at all.
>>150957075is this that whataboutism libs are always complaining about?
>world going to shit>everyone hates each other so they won't stop it
>>150957139The website isn't the problem, the industry being so anemic that it is effectively bottlenecked by a shockingly small group of people who just naturally reward people they know and like over complete strangers is the issue. If the US animation industry was putting out 60 shows a year, connections would still be good bu they wouldn't be required to such a degree. But we don't get 60 shows a year, we get like 8.
>>150957275The industry being clannish, blackrock pushing social engineering, and nothing being good is the problem. The last good boy aimed movies ACTUALLY made for kids was sonic the hedgehog and transformers one. That's it. The rest were made for old creepy predatory feminist women, queers an blackrock.
>>150953691>Madhouse has all their good animators and contractors working on this so we get One Frame Man from JC Shart insteadIt hurts...Or at least, it hurt back when S2 came out a few years ago, now it's just numbing.
>>150957404At least Mob Psycho 100 was good from start to finish in its adaptation, so ONE got one good show. Also, OPM S1 works perfectly fine as a standalone. There is more OPM, but if you show someone season 1 and tell them thats the whole story they won't be unsatisfied.
>>150957259No, just wondering if you're a shizo or just a bot. A bot wouldn't dare say anything bad about those two evil scumbags.
>>150953864ai shills can never tell you what cartoon or video game they like
>>150955068Damn I wonder why people don't read comics anymore.
>>150957380>transformers one.A colossal failure in box office only manchildren praised it.
>>150954804>What the fuck do I do now?You will own nothing and you will be happy working 12+ hours to make your boss richer.
>>150958453Anon, a boys cartoon starring the transformer should have been an easy sell. But the PR was god awful no advertisment for it and even the toys weren't there. And did they have a mcdonalds or wendy's toy for it? HELL NODidn't even have a cheap app or roblox worldThe rock whored BA better then Hasbro whored Transformers one. Let that sink in.
>>150953848>>150954875The translation here is>I am not going to hire anyone that does not 100% share the exact same political beliefs as myself. if I cannot discern their political beliefs then I will pass on them for someone that I can tell what their political beliefs are!And don't pretend for a second this is a liberal only thing. Too damn many people play team sports in every single fucking thing they do. and they always assume anyone not exactly like themselves to be the paragon of the opposing thought in every single way. They cannot actually imagine someone not wanting to play their game.
>>150956715This is the other side of hiring rich nepo babies for all their positions. They cannot really grasp that it's a business, meant to make money. They really cannot understand failure or going under, just as they cannot really grasp the concept of not being awarded for doing the work. It's up to the audience to decide if it is good or not.
>>150957275That is the other part of it, and anyone working in animation will tell you that. They always inform all students that the industry is tiny, everyone knows everyone and word gets around super fast about anybody. It has only shrunk so much more post 08 recession and writers strike shrinking the number of productions so much more. Animation in the US was largely a friend's club.
