I think Rhino is by far the worst classic Spider-Man villain. He's dumb so there's not much they can do with him beyond making him a punching bag and an occasional boring sappy trash story where you're supposed to feel bad for him (hello Milligan and Kelly). He really has no character beyond being a dull dumb brute. He also looks really dumb even by Spider-Man villain standards (for all the shit Electro gets, his suit is at least very attention-grabbing. Rhino just looks like a boring gray mess)The attempts to give him "depth" were just really boring sad sack stories that made him seem like even less of a threat if that's possible.
>>150966715>I think Rhino is by far the worst classic Spider-Man villain.Objectively not true when Vulture exists.
>>150966715Vulture is infinitely lamer
>>150967568>>150967575there have been cool versions of vulture even if the og was lacking. rhino hasn't gotten much outside of "what if he was smart?!"
>>150966715Most Spidey villains are lame.
Every villain doesn't need to murder one of Spidey's girlfriends and send him into a depression spiral.
Why doesnt he cover his face.
>>150968867Wrong
>>150966715Juggernaut does the same thing better.
>>150966715You should read the Spider-man Tangled web story. Dude got smart and was pretty epic.
>>150966715Yeah his brick powers are really boring
>>150966715Anon....Have you seen modern comics. How all of these incestuous dumb asses try to reinvent the wheel and only cone up with overly busy retardation and dumb as shit bordering on ludicrous stories?Spiderman was the face if Marvel for a reason. Hes will known, hus adventures simplevand easy. The fucking Rhino JUST WERKS!Hes strong as shit, he's invulnerable, hes distinct, he's a problem and he's a big dumb bruiser. THAT WERKSHe diesnt need sone deep dark origin or have boned Betty brant or some other stupid shit.
>>150967568>>150967742What was wrong with 90s youth vampire Vulture? He had a menacing gimmick and an updated look.
>>150969740That was the ONLY time 616 Vulture was cool and I wish it stuck. The only other times when he's cool is when they make him tacticool like in Ultimate or Web of Shadows.
>>150969763I despise pretty much everything I could about MCU Spider-Man, I think it's an abomination. But that was a cool Vulture design.
>>150968947Being a strong guy or being a Spider-Man "villain"?
>>150968867Nah, objectively wrong opinion that can never be backed up
>>150966715Didn’t they make him an intelligent mob boss in that Kraven movie?
>>150969740He was too dangerous to stay as a typical Spider-Man villain and with his need to constantly feed on people to stay young, his goals would be even more limited. I do think he should've been deaged a bit. I can never take old man Vulture with an exposed head seriously.
>>150971350He needs a better suit
>>150971350Nah, I like Eustace Bagge Vulture.""Stupid Spider! You made me look bad!"
>>150968947Juggernaut's a X-Men villain though.>>150966715Honestly Rhino's decent at being what he is; a strong but dumb brute with simply communicated abilities for Spiderman to outwit; a good middle-ground between easy unpowered street-thug mooks and the High-Tier Spidey villains like Doc Ock, Lizard, Hobgoblin, Mysterio and Venom.
>>150972108This he's a recurring midboss. He's supposed to be terrifying to normal humans.
>>150968947How? Juggernaut's helmet gimmick doesn't even come into to play against Spider-man since he's not telepathic. Juggernaut's not even an animal.
>>150966715Rhino fills the roll of the big muscle in Spider-man's rouges. He's not meant to be a huge threat until he teams up with other villains.
>>150968867This. They were random ideas in the Silver Age, and writers kept running with them as if they weren't fucktarded.
>>150971674No he just sucks.
>>150975724Which is good. He's not supposed to be coolHe's supposed to be a raving lunatic in a vulture costume. Some of his villains are not supposed to look bad ass tacticool and have happy family lives and other bullshit. Vulture is supposed to be a broken insane man and his costume is evidence of that.
>>150966715If you can't give a villain a good story or make him unique for whatever reason and you want to make him stand out consider making them more evil.In this case I believe it would work because most filler spidey villains like shocker, vulture, hammerhead, tombstone, etc. are often very little beyond very fun professional goons and robbers. Rhino could fill a niche for the "actual psycho" villain but in dumbass massive muscle monster flavour. Sure he already has Green Goblin and Carnage and Doc Ock and others that are a real big menace to society and Spider-Man himself, but those are all well-respected beloved high tiers with many great stories to their names. Rhino could be the low-tier silly jobber that every once in a while when Spidey gets too comfortable fighting him and slips or makes a mistake does something horrific that reminds him why the amazing Spider-man must protect civilians from him.
>>150974417Maybe cause they aren't and you just want to feel validated for having a contrarian opinion that most people don't agree with
>>150968867They are not memorable
>>150967568>>150967575Vulture even managed to have a lamer version in Blackie Drago; Toomes was at least able to invent his own suit.
>>150975785this. Spiderman villains aren't Batman villains, there's almost never some deep aspect to them. They're tend to just be petty nutcases in wacky costumes, which honestly is a pretty accurate summary of New Yorkers in a cape setting.
>>150974417That's where most superhero lore comes from
>>150977588>There's almost never some deep aspect to themThere's easier ways to say you've never read much with the characters, balso you only think Batman villains have deep aspects cause they are a mental illness parade of psychological cliches
>>150968867truth nukethe only good Spider-man villains are Green Goblin, Venom, and maybe Kraven
>>150968867Pretty much, they're like Batman's villains but get picked on by school supervillain bullies on the playground, the bullies are Batman's rouges regardless.
>>150967568>>150967575FPBPSPBP
I thought he was great in The Gauntlet, but that was the only Rhino-focused I ever really read.
>>150966715I like when he fights the hulk
>>150978196You mean the rogues gallery that gets sidelined for a faggot in makeup? Pffft yeah right
>>150966715Actually it's Scorpion who everyone wants to be cool but isn't
>>150980829Nah. Nobody's less cool than Rhino.>>150978949That story was the exact kind of sappy garbage I was talking about.>>150972108>>150972140Sandman is much better at being that.
>>150966715My issue with the Rhino is that he is not much stronger than Spiderman if at all. We always forget how strong Peter is because he always plays as a dex build.
>>150966715He works as a hired goon. Whether it be for Kingpin or the Sinister Six. You can do as much with him as Shocker, the Enforcers or even someone like Sandman just nobody has and if they have it doesn't stick. Not every villain can be a S tiers level arch nemesis for Spidey. Rhino works as a career criminal and a good character to fill out the roster of villain team up teams.
>>150980941Sandman can be a city-level threat if he needs to. Rhino's not that high level.
>>150968947Nah. The Juggernaut storyline was impressive because Spider-man was way out of his league with no back up.Otherwise, throw Rhino at him.
>>150966715He is not bad, just ok or average or mediocre, he is the mandatory brute villain for every rogue gallery that every hero has.
>>150966715Hammerhead is literally Rhino but worse so you're wrong.
>>150967742>rhino hasn't gotten much outside of "what if he was smart?!"I liked the story when he put down the costume and tries to live a normal live. Until some fuckers wearing Rhino techsuit comes and kills his wife.
>>150966715I don't like how they made him 3 meters tall.
>>150981738That story sucked.
>>150981780Nah it's good
>>150980941Shocker, Scorpion and Vulture are less cool than Rhino and if you wanna go with newer villains White Rabbit, Screwball and Panda-Mania and that's not even touching really meme characters like Big Wheel.
>>150981787Nah. It's boring garbage that tries too hard to be emotional and fails at it spectacularly. I sure do care about some boring fucking broad killed by some equally boring Rhino 2.0.Joe Kelly is a shitty writer. His Spider-Man is bad. His Daredevil was even worse.
>>150981797All way cooler than Rhino.>newer villainsI said classic. And those are just all shitty joke characters, at least they're supposed to be idiotic.
>>150981797>White RabbitBitch is older than Venom. New my ass.
>>150981780>>150981810That short story was good. If only to give Rhino something other that "dumb brute smahing around".And some panels hit really hard
>>150982113>hit really hardI'm glad I don't have standards so low.
>>150968867But enough about Fantastic Four villains like Diablo
>>150982113Why is Rhino talking to Kingpin's Mini-Me in a meat locker?
>>150966715>AWW DID I HURT YOUR LITTLE TUSKIE WUSKIE
>>150981810Nah you are wrong, it's a neat arc
I've always been big on Rhino slotting into "Sinister Syndicate" tier alongside guys like Shocker and Hydro-Man. The types that are two high profile to be considered complete schlubs but not exactly cracking Spidey's A-list.Kind of a shame Speed Demon never really kept pace with them. He's cool, but he's clearly outshined by them
>>150984550He isn't fucking dead like Doctor Spectrum and Hyperion, or a turncoat like Nighthawk so I say he made out well for himself.
does rhino even use his horn? i feel like i've never seen him gut anyone. i think he just tackles and headbutts shit
>>150985206He stabbed Thor with his horn once when it got replaced with the tooth of the Midgard serpent.
>>150967568how dare you
>>150981870Huh never thought of her in that way. I'm surprised JMD hasn't had one of his joke characters get ahold of a symbiote and get into shenanigans before getting rid of it. I think that's how JMD would handle it considering he never really liked them. At least some comedy would be mined from it.
>>150968947I guess that's partly why I liked the Rhino episode in Spectacular so much. Rhino felt like a force of nature and caused a lot of collateral damage in that series. But yeah Rhino suits Spidey most of the time because he is more in his power range while still being Spider-centric. But Rhino has tussled with Hulk and could be on Juggernaut tier but I don't mind him being lower because his powers are just more lab-centric without magic or a freak accident being the cause. Rhino is manufactured and a little shoddy. Communist science will do that.So then Rhino being obsessed with money and power like all the others rings more ironic considering his Russian origin and Spec leaning into how he wants to be a special commodity by preventing others from reproducing his whole deal makes sense. But as a character? I guess Rhino is there to fulfill that role Electro has but more physical and intimidating in that sense. Rhino being dumb and stubborn is something I can feel ok with. Fits the animal unless Rhinos are really smart. But then again, Rhino being a guy held hostage as a muscle serving other villains due to them holding Oksana hostage or a way to revive her or a way for Rhino to make money is kinda interesting to me. Rhino having to make money but then being stubborn and being tired of serving others is reflective of Peter feeling the same way many a time and craving freedom that then self-destructs in one's face could be a good direction. Rhino caught in a zoo of his own making.Actually the more I think about it, Juggernaut and Rhino are both white guys taking hold of an exotic power that then act like Stone Cold Steve Austin trying to fuck over everyone but themselves and who they care about. Rhino is just more sympathetic and maybe more prone to being screwed over. I dunno that's the impression I get. Also him suddenly appearing as a dangerous force that is in league with others is a role I really enjoyed when Harry hired him.
>>150987871Sorry anons. I write this Vietnam wall of text and then forget it looks schizoprenic in comparison to a character like the Rhino. Point is, just make him more outwardly in the thrall of other villains and more under their thumb but still have some dignity by both hating Spider-Man but also bate whatever villain he has to answer to.
>>150966715Chameleon is far, far, lamer than Rhino. Man literally just exists to give people an excuse to hate Spider-Man and Mysterio does his gimmick better anyway.
>>150988216Mysterio feels more bombastic and campy. Chameleon is more sadistic, creepy, and menacing. Mysterio's character has also been established to focus on special effects in a passionate way but then fail to get people and have bad taste in acting. So Mysterio infiltrating Spider-Man's life or supporting cast is OOC imo. Mysterio fooling Psidey by having a robot or himself use a hologram to pose as Iron Man to lure Spidey in make sense but as Peter like Chameleon did to MJ? Nah Chameleon can be cool and I like his relationship to Kraven. Chameleon can be lame but he also fills a good niche that can lead to good twists and connect Spidey's rogues gallery to more undercover operations and tie to the spy realm under Cap, Iron Man, Nick Fury, and others.
What if the Rhino is actually just Kingpin in a costume?
>>150988216I'm not going to say he is exactly my favorite guy, but his impersonation skills are impressive. Like I think he is actually better than Mystique or Skrulls at passing himself off as someone else.
>>150981797Who the fuck is Panda-Mania, also there was that kangaroo guy who killed himself, he was kinda lame
>>150975785Bro, shut up. Your dweeb ideas suck. Fuck the mundane. Embrace Rule of Cool.
>>150989736A member of white rabbit's all girl villainess crew. She's a girl in a sexy panda costume and that's about it.
>>150966715Rhino is fine, you need guys like him to be a level one boss
>>150989736A White Rabbit henchman with superstrength, some fairly big tits, and an unhealthy obsession with being dressed like a panda.
>>150989857So what does that make guys like the Enforcers where they all have a different gimmick, but aren't exactly a threat individually? Stage 1 mid-boss that becomes recolored for generics later on?
>>150981121>You can do as much with him as Shocker
So if Morbius and Manwolf are sci-fi flavored versions of movie monsters compared to Dracula and Werewolf (by night), is there a more sci-fi version of the Mummy that Spider-Man knows? Frankenstein's Monster and Manphibian are all really in that wheelhouse like their source material so no real reason for one.
>>150981810Fuck off, his deadpool run is kino
>>150967568He's got a few good stories
>>150981797Those are joke villains though, they aren't meant to be cool
>>150966715Any good storylines with rhino?Flowers for Rhinohulk issues?Ends of the EarthSpider-Man's Tangled WebThe Clone ConspiracyThe Savage SixDevil's Reign
>>150966715And that's okNot every villains has to be a big mastermind with a complex backstory
>>150984334If you have zero taste or standards, maybe.
>>150988216Chameleon should be relegated to fucking with SHIELD guys, honestly.
>>150990373>kinoAnd opinion is discarded. Kill yourself, you retarded mongoloid.
>>150966715Should they give him a tech suit? A mech suit? Shoulder missiles that he's able to fire off?Perhaps even a symbiote enhancement added to his suit. There's so much that they can do for him. If anything, the way you feel about Rhino is the same way I feel about Ben Grimm aka The Things. He seems utterly boring to me.
>>150990968>The Thing*
>>150990822Nah I have great taste, you just are up your own ass for no reason sorry
>>150966715This is why we get more dogshit stories. Rhino isn't broke and doesn't need "fixing". He's fine as a schlubby villain who is stuck doing what he knows because he can't get out of the suit and it's easier being a criminal than going straight.
>>150991026>coping with his shit taste
>>150991515What dogshit stories?Barely anybody tries to reimagine old shitty villains unless it's to give them a gay Slott-esque upgrade like >>150990968 says. And making Rhino a sad pussy like in the stories mentioned above is a shitty way to go about it.
>>150966715Bad take
>>150991515What else could he do? Mercenary work? Superpowered bodyguard?
>>150990478What the fuck happed to Aunt May here??
>>150966715true
>>150990771You putting Clone Conspiracy and Ends of the Earth in this list just because Rhino is somewhat plot relevant is laughable because of how shit Slott is. I'm surprised he didn't get fat from eating shit because of how much he spews out onto the pages.>>150990968Nope. Doesn't need upgrades except his durability and strength could be upgraded to make him less likely to be a jobber without a lot of effort from Spider-Man to take him out. Rhino could use his 80's design with the shoulder pads that are a darker grey to break up his design to look less naked and make his arms look like real Rhino legs with how that skin folds when they walk. Maybe cover his eyes like the Insomniac design where the Rhino's eyes are the human eyes instead of that weird thing where the Rhino eyes are further back and separate from his human eyes. But yeah he should look he has the hide of a Rhino or look concrete like the Spectacular cartoon. One story idea I have is more of an exploration of Rhino being gamma mutated and maybe that's why he is so big and he sometimes bonds to the suit. Like he is a normal sized guy but then he has to be inundated with gamma rays which causes him to grow like Hulk but it is cancer like rapid growth that is halted by the suit bonding to him. Then he has to take it off after a while which involves siphoning the gamma and getting the suit pried off him which is painful and takes hours or a couple of days as it sloughs off him. Then he might go months as a normal guy but then has to make money and go through all that again. The logistics of being a huge giant could also be explored as he has to work with other villains to move around an evil lair or base without breaking shit or being deployed rapidly as the gamma process could eventually dissipate on it's own and is costly to whatever mastermind is using him.
