The Mission impossible movies are comedically cartoony at times.
>>
>>150972132
Same could apply to something like Rat Race if you think about it. The whole movie is literally a sitcom in the best possible way. For christ's sake, people like Mr. Bean, Chris Griffin and Peggy Hill are literally in this movie and they are having a blast. Filename related, Total Drama inspired this movie btw
>>150972242
This is true. Tom Cruise nailed his Looney Tunes-esque stunts in the Mission Impossible movies. Without him, the movies would've sucked.
>>
that movie rules
obligatory mention of the great frank tashlin of looney tunes fame, the girl cant help it, will succes spoil rock hunter, artists and models etc

For christ's sake, this one is literally based on the comics and cartoons. Albeit this adaptation of Casper is more edgy, even for a PG-rating, having a bit of innuendos and mild profanity, kinda in the same league as a typical King of the Hill episode. The CG for the titular friendly ghost does hold up nicely, especially for 1995 standards as this was one of the first to utilize it with live-action characters. So come to think of it, without this movie, we wouldn't get Jar Jar Binks, Gollum, live-action Scooby-Doo, live-action Garfield, live-action Alvin and the Chipmunks, Bayformers or any of the shitty MCU movies

Stephen Chow, with movies like Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle, through direction, writing, camera work, sound effects, etc., truly creates live-action cartoons. Even the CGI contributes to the cartoon energy.

The only other director I know with a similar approach is Spanish director Javier Fesser, with his live-action Mortadelo y Filemón (as well as his original films like Milagro de P. Tinto).

It's an objective fact that they're based on properties native to those home board's subjects
This isn't based on the retardation OP suggests that boils down to "vibes"

>>
>>150975607
Even if we are not considering that, it feels like a live action adaptation of an early 2000s adult swim show. Criticism against it, specially today, makes no sense considering how much people respect adult swim's comedy. Which is exactly what this movie is. Your post literally is one of the most on topic ones on this thread
>>
>>150976537
It’s a pity, because there are definitely a few movies that have a "cartoonish feeling and energy" to them. Denying the inspiration and influence they draw from /co/ media, especially in terms of visual humor and style, is simply being contrarian for the sake of it.
Discussing these films on /co/ to get the /co/ perspective on how well they adapt that cartoony energy seems perfectly reasonable, especially if the thread isn’t spammed every couple of days (it’s been months since I last saw an OP that opens with Death Race 2000).
>>
>>150973973
It’s funny that Kevin Smith tried to sneak in his ugly wife as one of the hot chicks. But this was probably the closest we got to a Clerks TAS continuation in terms of tone and the cancellation hurts less since we got movies with the same characters(even if they aren’t as funny)
>>
>>150974043
Not a bad spoof movie, especially since it actually remembered to parody the genre it was based on during a time when others would just cram their movies with references

Weird movie and objectively /tv/core, yes. But I double down on what I wrote, many people do that comparison today. And some movies are only getting posted with further opinions that other anons could provide.

That or those retards are attacking this thread with the idea that it's definitely offtopic. They want less of those threads? We have a lot of no effort furry and waifufaggotry appreciation and image dumps threads, reposted bait, blatant lgbt propaganda threads with no good arguments whatsoever or something interesting and relevant to discuss, two or more generals from the same topic right now, anything related to AI which at this point should be considered spam, more Snyderjeets/Gunnfags screeching, threads about how everything that's not anime or manga is doomed, the threads made always by the same schizos, and also the sublte /pol/ threads that aren't very subtle

A thread were literally many of the posts are opinions and facts about /co/ media directly related to movies? That's definitely offtopic. Most of the real offopic posts in this thread are from those retards

>>150976755
Shut up, offtopic is cancer. They should move those threads to their corresponding boards, always. That way the userbase of 4chan would be more distributed, good /v/ threads wouldn't get archived in 5 minutes, and boards wouldn't suffer from being so slow paced. To the point that sometimes they're comparable to altchans

There’s a key difference that comes down to how cartoon logic is used in each movie’s world. In The Mask and Son of Mask, cartoon logic is forced into a reality-based setting. In contrast, Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle have worlds where cartoon logic is the natural state of the world.

The Mask pulls this off because it skillfully contrasts the grounded reality with the Mask’s over-the-top antics. Son of Mask, however, just tries to be a live-action cartoon and fails spectacularly.
On the other hand, Stephen Chow understands that cartoons (think Tex Avery, Chuck Jones, etc.) aren’t just about wacky effects. They also involve specific camera angles, timing, and sound effects, and he masterfully translates that into live-action.
The other director I mentioned, Javier Fesser, does the same. I recommend watching his Mortadelo y Filemón films just for the experience.

Did you read my post? Do you really think that im not tired of offtopic? Go to the other threads I mentioned right now, and spam them for 10 hours. Please. As I said before, here we are talking about the different relationships these movies have with cartoons and /co/ media in general. We're not posting Thelma and Louise and Supersize Me here. Wacky action makes sense. You could also go bump those comics threads that are about to get archived. Go talk about your favorite runs, different kind of panels, best 90s redesigns. Do a storytime that people actually want to read. But nope, you just saw movies here and automatically think that it's just /tv/
>>
>>150976925

>>
>>150977068
Come on, tell me that this thread is offtopic >>>/tv/215443275
It's offtopic, right? After all they're talking only about books. Mentioning how they have been already adapted, reccomendation of similar movies, and the limitations of tv shows and movies? No, not that

>>150977082
They can have many things that are meant to be discussed on /co/. Like how a character was obviously influenced by a comic one. There was like a month ago a thread about a 2000s superhero game that was parodying Marvel. Or recently even Dispatch. The kind of superhero media you're talking about should only be sent by default to /a/, /tv/, or /v/ when it's japanese
>>
>>150977154
I get what you mean but I still strongly believe that giving even a small inch to off-topic discussion no matter how minute it may be just spiraled into a bigger problem when you have people disregard /co/'s purpose altogether
A no tolerance policy just seems like the simpler and easier to understand solution to /co/'s off-topic plague since it erases any sort of confusion over what exactly is /co/ related
As bad as /a/ can be, I envy them being able to stay focused since it's telling how their worst posters come to /co/ thinking it's easy territory because they think /a/ is too mean or whatever
I would love that energy poured into /co/ since ideally this board concentrating on healthy discussion on introducing comics and cartoons would be preferable than making this place default as a blue /b/
I see the value you bring up but I don't think it's worth it if it can encourage the larger problems
>>
>>150977192
Your issue is not a lack of "no tolerance policy", but a lack of proper work by jannies and mods.
>>
>>150977154
>There was like a month ago a thread about a 2000s superhero game that was parodying Marvel. Or recently even Dispatch.
Where do you draw the line though aside from being Japanese?
Wouldn't that by default mean /co/ is less a comics board and more a superhero genre board if it's THAT lenient?
What would you consider pushing it?
Hancock?
Pluto Nash?
Heroes?
It's either all okay or none of it is
>>
>>150977262
>Wouldn't that by default mean /co/ is less a comics board and more a superhero genre board if it's THAT lenient?
Not really
>What would you consider pushing it?
>Hancock?
>Pluto Nash?
>Heroes?
>It's either all okay or none of it is
If they have a proper OP that correctly guides these topics into an offtopic thread then I see ALMOST no problem. The biggest problem could be that some people would think that they can post anything. But that's what moderation is for. However, apparently that takes too much effort, go see the catalog, so it's an impossible situation
