For christ's sake, this one is literally based on the comics and cartoons. Albeit this adaptation of Casper is more edgy, even for a PG-rating, having a bit of innuendos and mild profanity, kinda in the same league as a typical King of the Hill episode. The CG for the titular friendly ghost does hold up nicely, especially for 1995 standards as this was one of the first to utilize it with live-action characters. So come to think of it, without this movie, we wouldn't get Jar Jar Binks, Gollum, live-action Scooby-Doo, live-action Garfield, live-action Alvin and the Chipmunks, Bayformers or any of the shitty MCU movies
>>150972132I suggest you watch Deathrace 2050, the true sequel to the first. Not the Jason Statham reboot, not the Luke Goss DTV pablum. But also, if you can, track down & read Deathrace 2020, the comic sequel to the first movie. It's out in the cyber-ether, if you know where to look.

Criticism against it, specially today, makes no sense considering how much people respect adult swim's comedy. Which is exactly what this movie is. Your post literally is one of the most on topic ones on this thread
>>150976537It’s a pity, because there are definitely a few movies that have a "cartoonish feeling and energy" to them. Denying the inspiration and influence they draw from /co/ media, especially in terms of visual humor and style, is simply being contrarian for the sake of it.Discussing these films on /co/ to get the /co/ perspective on how well they adapt that cartoony energy seems perfectly reasonable, especially if the thread isn’t spammed every couple of days (it’s been months since I last saw an OP that opens with Death Race 2000).
>>150973973It’s funny that Kevin Smith tried to sneak in his ugly wife as one of the hot chicks. But this was probably the closest we got to a Clerks TAS continuation in terms of tone and the cancellation hurts less since we got movies with the same characters(even if they aren’t as funny)

But I double down on what I wrote, many people do that comparison today. And some movies are only getting posted with further opinions that other anons could provide. We have a lot of no effort furry and waifufaggotry appreciation and image dumps threads, reposted bait, blatant lgbt propaganda threads with no good arguments whatsoever or something interesting and relevant to discuss, two or more generals from the same topic right now, anything related to AI which at this point should be considered spam, more Snyderjeets/Gunnfags screeching, threads about how everything that's not anime or manga is doomed, the threads made always by the same schizos, and also the sublte /pol/ threads that aren't very subtle A thread were literally many of the posts are opinions and facts about /co/ media directly related to movies? That's definitely offtopic. Most of the real offopic posts in this thread are from those retards>>150976755Shut up, offtopic is cancer. They should move those threads to their corresponding boards, always. That way the userbase of 4chan would be more distributed, good /v/ threads wouldn't get archived in 5 minutes, and boards wouldn't suffer from being so slow paced. To the point that sometimes they're comparable to altchans
>>150976751There’s a key difference that comes down to how cartoon logic is used in each movie’s world. In The Mask and Son of Mask, cartoon logic is forced into a reality-based setting. In contrast, Shaolin Soccer and Kung Fu Hustle have worlds where cartoon logic is the natural state of the world. The Mask pulls this off because it skillfully contrasts the grounded reality with the Mask’s over-the-top antics. Son of Mask, however, just tries to be a live-action cartoon and fails spectacularly. On the other hand, Stephen Chow understands that cartoons (think Tex Avery, Chuck Jones, etc.) aren’t just about wacky effects. They also involve specific camera angles, timing, and sound effects, and he masterfully translates that into live-action.The other director I mentioned, Javier Fesser, does the same. I recommend watching his Mortadelo y Filemón films just for the experience.

>>150977154I get what you mean but I still strongly believe that giving even a small inch to off-topic discussion no matter how minute it may be just spiraled into a bigger problem when you have people disregard /co/'s purpose altogether A no tolerance policy just seems like the simpler and easier to understand solution to /co/'s off-topic plague since it erases any sort of confusion over what exactly is /co/ relatedAs bad as /a/ can be, I envy them being able to stay focused since it's telling how their worst posters come to /co/ thinking it's easy territory because they think /a/ is too mean or whateverI would love that energy poured into /co/ since ideally this board concentrating on healthy discussion on introducing comics and cartoons would be preferable than making this place default as a blue /b/I see the value you bring up but I don't think it's worth it if it can encourage the larger problems

>>150975791This one is straight up an anime I watched as a kid, except that one had dinosaurs.
>>150976816OP said cartoons, not arcade beat 'em ups.
>>150974043This one was pretty good
>>150974043Funny how the actress who played the naked chick in that movie also played the Yellow Ranger in Power Rangers: Lost Galaxy
>>150972132Kind of runs out of steam half way into it I guess but still cartoony
>>150979449Based
>>150972132Toxic Avenger is purely brazen, edgy, and over-the-top, and exactly has that Looney Tunes/Tom & Jerry/Scooby-Doo feeling. There's even a more family-friendly Saturday morning cartoon based on the movie itself later on back in the early-90s
>>150972733Mouse Hunt is such a masterpiece
The poster even calls it live action south park
Basically a live-action Fleischer cartoon
>>150972610To be fair, it managed to break through into animation in a way. Phantom of the Paradise was pretty popular in Japan, so you see the Phantom's helmet everywhere in a stuff during the 80s and 90s.
>>150973862>>150975755>>150977592GF /d/sHT0Zj
>>150975711It did get a cartoon, though. The Spooktacular New Adventures of Casper was basically the tv series continuation of the movie, with Casper and his uncles' VA reprising their roles. https://youtu.be/WkkO6nmAzXII swear there was a joke at one point where the uncles just ask themselves why they don't just kill the Harvey's in the movie, but realize they couldn't because it was rated PG.
>>150978659true, dude loves his toonsHis Twilight Zone segment was the best part of the movie by far
>>150979234I could definitely see The Warriors as a watered down 80s cartoon where they either have a specific gang they have to battle or each episode they fight a new wacky gang and there gimmick. All because they have to protect their own neighborhood, you see.
>>150976748>AltmanNo thanks.
>>150980456My god I loved this cartoon a whole lot as a kid. Spooktacular was honestly the best Casper cartoon I've seen. I remember watching Scare School on Cartoon Network as I was turning into my teen years, but it didn't have as much soul
>>150972132>nobody has mentioned Shoot 'Em Up
>>150972132Stallone looks unimpressed.
>>150980894To be fair hes a bit part in the movie and this came out before he became huge thanks to rocky
The original Pink Panther movies literal use gags straight out of cartoons>>150972796>>150975744>>150975820What part of the concept are you not getting?
>>150977154>Or recently even Dispatch.Shouldn't fucking be here but unfortunately we have pussy ass bitches who got their shit pushed in by /v/Not a comicNot a cartoonNot /co/Simple asinb4 it has comicsGeez Louise Anon, it's like that thread isn't actually about that and the logic falls apart when you stop and consider that's like saying Batman as a whole can be /a/ solely through crap like Batman Ninja
>>150977234No tolerance is the simplest, cleanest most easily understandable and consistent method to ensure /co/ doesn't become shitBlurring the lines at any capacity does more harm than good to the board

>>150979147And fucking stay there >>150980489That's different from what OP meant you dimwit
>>150980489Funny thing is I knew the plot of the Warriors almost backwards and forwards before I ever saw it because I 'd already seen 3 cartoon parodies of it.
>>150981185>Better this than that.Anything is better than /co/ avoiding talking about comics and cartoons
>>150981187>That's different from what OP meant you dimwitOh, I'm aware. The thing is, with all the butthurt in the thread, I didn't want to say what I REALLY meant: The Warriors doesn't have cartoon energy at all. It has 80s Anime OVA energy.

An anon already posted the first one, so i also like to mention the forth one because it feels like a 2000s edgy Newgrounds cartoon.it even has a Tom Fulp cameo
>>150981608Isn't this the movie where Toxie's wife get raped by Evil Mirror World Toxie and Toxie's unborn baby and his unborn baby fight to the death inside her womb?
>>150981675Yes
>>150981485fuck yes

>>150980237it's a masterpieceand this is coming from Uwe Boll nonetheless
>>150979139This seems like one of the few suggested here that did not have some kind of tie-in cartoon made for it. Swamp Thing, Toxic Crusader, Gremlins, Mask, Pink Panther..all got cartoons at some point.
>>150981754>>150981675That's not just Newgrounds-tier. That's fucking Youcis-tier.
Hardcore HarryEquilibriumHome Alone film seriesHoney I Shrunk The Kids film seriesIf you want to really make anons blow a vein and bring /a/ into it, Immortal Demon Slayer is the closest thing I've seen to a live-'action anime outside of direct adaptations.
>>150975607>>150976600I consider Freddy Got Fingered to be one of the cornerstones of proto-brainrot humor and the majority of 2000s humor
>>150982275I could add Ultraviolet as well I suppose, although that did get an actual anime adaptation.Wimmer seems to excel at that sort of exaggerated action.
>>150972132Technically these are /v/ movies (because people keep bringing up /a/ in this thread), but>93 Mario movie>Van Dame Street Fighter movie>both Angelina Jolie Tomb Raider movies>the entire Paul WS Resident Evil movies (to lesser extents)>2007 Hitman movie>the Prince of Persia movie>Detective Pikachu>the recent Sonic moviesthey at times feel like either cartoons or comics

>>150982497Yes and he was awesome
>>150982505Need to check it out then sometime
>>150982453Should've kept /co/ on-topic but NOOOOO you just HAD to make an off-topic thread
>>150972655>>150972664>>150975579>>150975711you could say the same with>Burton/Schumacher-era Batman>early-90s live-action Ninja Turtles trilogy>the Raimi Spiderman trilogy>Ang Lee's Hulk>both 2000s Hellboy movies>both 04 Punisher and War Zone>Robert Rodriguez's Sin City>both Tim Story Fantastic Four movies>Zack Snyder's 300 and Watchmenalthough they are live-action movies based on comics, they fully replicate the comic book aesthetic
>>150982577>Ang Lee's HulkGlorious disaster that was, but yeah comics don't translate as well as cartoons unless you are making fun of comics
>>150982593>Glorious disaster that wasstill better than Brave New World
>>150982543and you're still whoring for attention
>>150982636I'm not the scat spammer
>>150973862Hang on, are these the same guys as Marshall Law?
>>150972132I have not seen the original 1967 version with Dudley Moore, but the 2000 remake with Brendan Fraser (pic related) is more cartoonish. Hell, a lot of Brendan Fraser movies in the mid-90s through the entire 2000s decade are cartoonish, especially the Mummy trilogy
>>150982679True. But you could just filter and move on. Just a word of advice
>>150982718Sure but it's still firm that /co/ needs less remotely off-topic threads period to the extent of complete eradication Why do you think people are becoming more radicalized against their presence?People want their board back
>>150981131It literally has comics>>150981304>KWABYou don't care about quality
>>150982704Dude even made a point of taking the piss out of himself on the Mummy ride
>>150982813That scene was funny, and it came out just a few months before Returns was even released, so the joke was so great
>>150978631Another good example. Steve Oedekerk worked on Jimmy Neutron and Barnyard
>>150982862He also did Ace Ventura sequel and was the writer for the Eddie Murphy Nutty Professor remake and its sequel, and Bruce Almighty
>>150983033I forgot to mention, he also did that infamous Planet Sheen spinoff nobody liked
This series got wackier and cartoonier with each installment.
>>150976910Sauce?
Kevin Kline won an Oscar for essentially playing a cartoon villain.

>>150972132the Jackass movies
>>150980323this ones also very cartoony from the same director
>>150982224didn't youcis work with troma?
>>150982704If not this then definitely Monkeybone.
>>150982693Yep.
>>150983538I think she played her Alfred Alfer shorts at Tromafest to get funding, but I don't think se every officially worked for them.
>>150983189bastard swordsman
>>150983621especially Monkeybone. Oh and also both George of the Jungle and Dudley Do-Right

>>150972132Tell me with a straight face that Roland Emmerich's movies such as 2012, Day After Tomorrow, and (pic related) Independence Day aren't goofy as fuck
>>150984344The movie was OnDemand a while back. A bout of insomnia resulted in that checklist. Written on the back of a blank train ticket receipt. One of these centuries I'll have to laminate it.
It has a more comic like vibe, but that still counts.
>>150984896nigga it was already mentioned earlier >>150980281please learn to scroll
>>150975781There's one called The Final Death Race but I scrolled through it and it doesn't look like it's for me
>niggers can't learn to scroll up before attempting to postzoomers are so illiterate that it's not even funny
>>150980395not sure what this means
>>150972132Final Destination and Saw are both purely cartoony as they progress. Although Saw may have stayed grounded, Jigsaw's traps have been more Looney Tunes like as the series progressed. As for Final Destination, it became more berserk by the time the series moved forward when characters have to cheat through death with some Rube Goldberg ways
Picrel. Also Big Trouble In little China.
>>150985007Oh and I also might add in The Strangers, The Purge and especially Terrifier in the same exact level as well
>>150985070Terrifier and Final Destination, even Saw, are more cartoony than Strangers and Purge. The latter two are more down to earth while the other three put more emphasis on the cartoon-style ultraviolence, something akin to the Itchy & Scratchy segments off of Simpsons
>>150984938Found it.GF /d/bDbnD5
>so over the top it makes Final Destination seem like a PBS documentary
Time Bandits feels like it could have been an 80s animated film. Like a creepy claymation or Don Blutch one.
