Was always canon and always going to be canon. Real ones remember Natasha telling people "it's funny that you pretend to know what the fuck you're talking about" when people told her Marceline and PB weren't gay as a response to her crew art. This was even before What Was Missing.

She gave him shit dating advice on purpose, it was carefully planned with the endgame of Finn losing out on getting with her ex and getting back together with PB. Also, how convenient that the episode which started the whole Bubbline craze, What Was Missing, happened a few episodes after Fubblegum was sunk in Too Young. It’s a shame that Finn didn’t stake Marceline, she was out to ruin his happiness.
