If The Hub got ratings on par with say, the Nicktoons channel and Boomerang (both of which are still around after all these years), why did The Hub shut down in 2014?
The Hub was pretty much carried entirely by MLP
>>150976444they where not financially stable. i think its past your bedtime lad, turn your phone off and sleep. you have school tomorrow
SECRET BUTT FUN
>>150976444>why did The Hub shut down in 2014?gen z didnt watch it and millennials/ Gen x only watched it for some shows
>>150976470Nobody watched The Hub outside of MLP. Shows like Dan Vs are rather niche
>>150976444New head honcho came in.Fucked things up with dumb plans.Plug pulled.
Wait, I found out they were behind Nicktoons in the ratings, but Nicktoons was only just barely ahead of The Hub, yet Nicktoons is still active as a channel to this day
>>150976480>Dan Vsthat show is based. good female characters, and a douch
>>150976480I'm pretty sure even MLP was watched more through YouTube than even The Hub, which I don't get because the YouTube uploads were piracy
>>150976480I still don't get how MLP was more beloved and viewed than Transformers Prime, which was coming off the heels of the incredibly successful Michael Bay movies
>>150976525This board literally made it into one of the biggest internet phenomenons of the early to mid 2010s
>>150976480I watched it for programs like Dan Vs, Transformers Prime, and RL Stines the Haunting Hour. I also enjoyed it for being an avenue in watching cartoons from the 80s such as Transformers G1 and GI Joe. Same goes for the 1960s Batman series. Otherwise, I don't think I would've been able to watch those shows at the time.
>>150976491>yet Nicktoons is still active as a channel to this dayI guess Viacom still subsidizes it where as with the Hub they could barely keep afloat?
>Hub got Animaniacs>Even had the VAs make new content for ads>Then randomly gave it and Tiny Toons a shitty timeslot
>>150976444>The Hub shut down in 2014Only four years on the air? It's weird to me that it was that short of a period. Felt much longet to me back then.
>>150976699>a shitty timeslot6 am in the morning?
>>150976699To be fair, The Hub aired the fuck out of Animaniacs during the entire calendar year of 2013 giving it marathons and promoting it a ton. They only started airing it during school hours exclusively around the beginning of 2014 and even then, they kept it until Discovery Family launched, so it was in a somewhat good timeslot during summer when kids were out of school
>>150976444Speaking of which, why did The Hub rely so much on old reruns? Nostalgia can only get you so far and from what I understand, Hasbro wanted The Hub to compete with Nick, Disney, and CN and be half as popular as those networks
>>150976851hasbro is run by mr. krabs tier cheapskates and is only willing to invest heavily in IPs that are proven to print money (e.g. horse show)
>>150976769Yes. This is a death/fuck you slot.
>>150976444It was due to some ownership issue with Discovery. New Hasbro management was not interested in fighting or spending extra money to fight Discovery for it so they abandoned the project and let Discovery have it again and turn it back into Discovery Family.
The hub had an identity crisis because they had a mix of kiddie shit and more mature shows, girls and tweens watching mlp would not have been interested in Dan Vs, and the kinda guys who would've liked Dan Vs would've been turned off by seeing ads for pony shit. Normies are fickle and ruin everything. This was also a time when teens and young adults were gravitating to anime and webshows. I knew lots of people who stopped paying attention to American television/cable because we got assblasted with bottom of the barrel reality tv at the end of the 2000s.
>>150976444https://deadline.com/2011/06/is-the-hub-due-for-a-writedown-discovery-debt-filing-raises-that-possibility-139314/Apparently, there were signs The Hub wouldn't last even as early as 2011Another thing, why did The Hub go through so many brandings through its 4 year run? Cartoon Network, Nickelodeon, and Disney Channel at the very least kept branding for 2 years, but it felt like every year, The Hub changed branding
>>150976444Being co-owned by Hasbro cut into their ad revenue since their competitors didn't want to buy time on the network. It didn't help that they were already stretching themselves thin as the media landscape started to change with streaming blowing up.
>>150976444Would one also say The Hub was too ambitious (before they started relying too much on nostalgia)? The first year, they didn't really focus too much on nostalgia aside from the primetime schedule of old sitcom reruns (and even that was only on Monday through Thursdays, as Friday Saturday and Sunday has original series in primetime) and a lot of original series were created for The Hub, but as time went on, the original series made for The Hub became fewer and fewer as the channel relied more on old reruns
>>150976939Huh, might have a point now that I think about it. I graduated highschool in 2014 and pretty much the only American made TV show I gave a shit about was Supernatural, and by that point it was in full zombie mode. Went I went off to college, most of the girls and hipster fags watched brit shit like DrWho. Knew tons of weebs who watched anime and nothing else, and there were a few people who admitted to still watching cartoons like Steven Universe and AT but they were a minority, actually seen as weirder than the weebs because at least anime could be explained away with Sex and action, but admitting to watching SU or AT meant you were into kiddieshit like the horsefags>Mfw a decade later it's now perfectly acceptable for ZoomZooms to watch toddler slop like bluey
>>150976444Their direction also felt a bit aimless. They changed brandings 6 times throughout their 4 year run (first branding from Oct 2010 to Sep 2011, second from Sep 2011 to June 2012, third from June 2012 to June 2013, fourth branding was for the summer of 2013, fifth branding for September 2013 to January 2014, and sixth branding for the rest of its lifespanThey also had an unclear direction. The first year was a diverse catalog of shows, then around September 2011, their weekday lineup was dominated by action shows (and during school hours, Ponies, Pound Puppies, and Strawberry Shortcake), and then around July 2013, the action stuff started to decrease and The Hub started having stuff like Pound Puppies, Ponies, and Littlest Pet Shop during afterschool hours alongside Animaniacs and Tiny Toons (those two eventually started airing exclusively in the mornings, but for the time being, they were airing in evening hours)The Hub was a cool channel, but why did they not figure out a clear strategy?
>>150976444hasbrony only makes bad decisions
>>150977092where the fuck did you grow up
I loved Dan vs.
>>150977148Texas and California.
>>150976678The RL Stein show was so good.
>>150977142What other bad decisions has Hasbro made besides what they did with The Hub?
>>150976444I'm surprised The Hub never aired that Dinosaurs puppet show when it was active, considering they aired Fraggle Rock and ALF. I'd say it was because Dinosaurs is owned by Disney (since it's on Disney+), but they aired the Honey, I Shrunk the Kids series during their first year and that was also a Disney series
>>150977621I wished Hub reran 80s Muppet Babies.
>>150977918They wouldn't have been able to. Muppet Babies is tied up in legal red tape
>>150977925I know Muppet Babies is a mess of copyrights, but Hub was able to show Wonder Years which was also a mess of copyrights at the time. I guess getting the rights to show Muppet Babies on TV in the 2010s was too hard to get, or nobody cares about Muppet Babies.
>>150977995who gives a fuck about muppet babies outside of 40 year old autists?
>>150978031Muppet autists.
>>150977995Did Muppet Babies even rerun on TV after it ended in late 1991? It felt like that show disappeared after that
>>150978204good
>>150978056I wonder how speilberg feels knowing that there are men almost as old as him still obsessing and masturbating to childrens programing he wrote 30 years ago
>>150976444So why didn't The Hub have a strategy to succeed?
>>150978204It was reran on Nickelodeon in the late 90s. >>150978247Masturbating to Muppet Babies is gross, bro.
It became my comfy channel: Transformers Prime, the Haunting Hour, Dan Vs, Aquabats, even MLP.It reminded me of Nickelodeon during the 80s, but with more commercialism. That Holden era with You Can’t Do That On Television, Double Dare, Danger Mouse, Count Duckula, etc.The Hub really needed a niche live action show that general teens would be into. and word of mouth would spread for ratings.
>>150976444So why did none of The Hub's original programming do that great besides MLP? Dan Vs and Aquabats seemed like shows that could've done very well, but they just didn't
>>150976444Well?
>>150976444I still remember how in the beginning, none of their shows had we'll be right back bumpers
>>150976444Okay, how come there's more commercial breaks from say, 1995 The Disney Channel back when it was a premium channel compared to The Hub? You had to pay extra for The Disney Channel, so why is there lots of commercial breaks online of the mid 90s period of that, but not The Hub?
>>150976444Dunno, I live in England and watched horse show and Littlest Pet Shop with streams.
>>150980963That's cool
