The 2002 raimi film green goblin armor is a great design and im tired of pretending its not
>inb4 "b-but its a power range-"
Power rangers look cool. This design is peak capeshit
>>
>>150977563
Bump
>>
Power Rangers look like a gay parody, get over yourself.
>>
Cool. Want a medal?
>>
>>150977563
i like the light purple hue
>>
>>150977563
It is a cool design. It just isn't a fitting design for Green Goblin.
>>150978049
You're gay and have shit taste.
>>
>>150978147
Whenever i think of green goblin i think of that design first. Take of that as you will
>>
>>150978147
>>150977563
I think it fits well enough when, in the movie, it was meant to be more of a military weapon thing and then Nroman customized it with his own goblin aesthetic. So it kind of looks vaguely tactical, but with the mask and bombs having the goblin/halloween designs.

It needed more variants in color. the purple poncho in NWA worked miracles
>>150978049
Even the Power Rangers had more color variety in their costumes. Note how the White breaks up the primary color. It would be like doing the traditional black suit spider-man suit with no white logo. It looks off.
>>

I love the Raimi Goblin design. It makes perfect sense for it to look like that within the context of the film, it's an armoured flight suit that Oscorp made, and it's shown in the film the Norman collects masks, so teching one out fits. The only way to improve it is to go the route that No Way Home basically did, was take that design and put purple cloth over it. I just wish they hadn't made it look like it was cobbled together with junk and had kept the mask.
I said for years before that, if Raimi had kept the same design and put a purple tunic over it, and had the back point of the mask fade into purple, it would have been perfect. But regardless, anyone that hates the Raimi Goblin design is a fag.
>>
>>150979089
I hated it in NWH when they destroyed the cool mask. Why does the MCU hate masks so much?
>>
>>150977563
Raimi's concepts were really not that bad considering all superhero and villain costumes for the previous ten years were all stylized black leather. I'm sure more than a few people at Sony wanted Norman to look like a 90s Batman on a gloder.
>>
>>150979495
Honestly, letting Dafoe do more facial acting instead of sticking it behind a mask wasn't a bad idea.
>>
>>150977563
That one mask they didn't use looked cooler.
>>
Thry should have gone with his face mutating because of the green goblin serum
>>
>>150979495
MCU wants character faces on screen as much as possible for maximum actor exposure. They are run by guys who firmly believe in the classic Hollywood concept that audiences are only there to see stars, not an accurate convincing character. So they want the super star's face on screen all the time.

Also it's baked into contracts that payment and royalties are tied to the amount of time a face is on screen so actors are always going to fight for max face time, and superhero movies really fuck with that since a masked face is a loophole to not pay someone.

I'm already tired of the MCU flippy mask shit each and every time a character has a line of dialog to speak.

So theyre retarded then? Got it. I cannot for the life of me wait until kevin feige is mehturd'ed and is ousted from marvel so we can finally have better capeshit that doesn't abide by these shitty rules
>>
>>150977563
I love the original Green Goblin design, but I still think that the Raimi one looks great. Even if it looks more like the Jackal than the Goblin. Maybe it needed more colors and other stuff, as others here are saying

the power ranger comparison was always strange because PR/Sentai villains aren't exactly minimalist or tacticool.
Just a kneejeerk boomer statement from someone unfamiliar with it.
>>
>>150978226
I take it as it being the first one you saw as a kid. What else is there to take?
>>
>>150977563
I don't even care about the body, but the mask is amazing. It's creepy as fuck and also cool as hell

I don't know if they could get a rubber mask to look that good
>>
It’s good but I’ve always felt it needed some purple in it. I liked what NWH did, with the torn-up hoodie. It takes the Raimi design and brings it a little bit closer to something resembling classic Gobby.
>>
>I'm already tired of the MCU flippy mask shit each and every time a character has a line of dialog to speak.
it was satisfying to see jackman pull his mask up like a hood in DP3 after years of the stupid nanotech. but then the very next movie was cap 4 where sam had that bullshit.

Wanting characters to wear masks in superhero movies is suffering.

Not OP but I think my first exposure would've been the 90's cartoon. Technically I guess the Hobgoblin if you want to split hairs.

I'm pretty sure it was a mask in that version too but obviously as a cartoon it's easier to just animate it like a real face. I really didn't think of this at all as a kid and just liked the suit a lot. It didn't really feel like a compromise or a lamer version. I actually think William Dafoe's voice coming out of a static scary mask is pretty intimidating.
>>
>>150982999
>AHHHH I CANT SEE HIS FACE WHAT EMOTION IS HE EXPRESSING????
Funniest thing is that the women they hire have absolutely no face range at all, so we can't tell what emotion they're conveying despite wearing no masks either.
>>
Gonna be funny seeing Dr Doom wear his mask for only 2 minutes before dropping it and show his face for the rest of the movies.

I’d like to know if the Hildebrant brothers got a single thin dime for designing the “Raimi” suit
>>
>>150977563
They made his original mask before that one, but didn't use it, because I think people thought it was too scary.
>>
>>150985420
I think it was too convoluted. Why bother with an animatronic mask when if you wanted facial movement and range of articulation, you could've just added makeup and minimal facial prosthetics that, even then, could've done the job by exaggerating Dafoe's unique facial structure. The approach they went with that was stupid and I'm glad they realized it was stupid early enough because the solid mask they came up with was far superior.
>>
>>150985276
Sounds like you don't really know Power Rangers or Sentai because that doesn't look much like any design from that past maybe the early 80's. And even then not really.

In the making of book (Behind the mask of Spider-Man: the secrets of the movie by Mark Cotta Vaz. Great book) Raimi explains that he was worried the animatronic mask would raise too many questions in the audience, so rather than devote screen time to explaining it, or possibly confusing and distracting the audience, it was simpler to just not bother with it.

What about a middle ground? Someone with great facial acting, green face paint, and then just make the ears and nose the only prosthetics and then GG's purple hat/cap on top of that? Would that look horrible? I dunno much about this stuff and if all that would look retarded except only if it was placed right in front of me on the screen.

no, but he would have made a good Toad

Thanks for not reading the post you replied to.
>>

But what do I do about the hat?
>>
>>150988155
I read it but then I was lazy about editing my post and thinking about how to specify it more. Oh well. Plus I thought by specifying some of the words more would mean stuff I like would be more clear. Pic rel also falls under make up retard and if it showed up in a movie without the other stuff it would look retarded.
>>
>>150979089
I do wish the glider was more cool and comic book-y. The gargoyle/bat face is needed. Whether with/without eyes.
>>
>>150977563
It needed less pointless detail & more purple.
>>
>>150977563
Dafoe's performance admittedly sells it better. Wish we saw more of it in NWH
>>
>>150978049

Just have the Goblin come from gamma radiation so he'd just Hulk out and turn green for real. Gamma rays can do a lot of crazy shit.
>>
The armor just fits the movie we got better. Although I'd love to see a movie shot/directed/written by Raimi with Old-Tobey fighting a comic accurate Goblin. Somewhat horror themed, "ghosts from your past" kinda thing.
>>
>>150977563
I love it, and it ain't just nostalgia
Its tacticool enough for the nerds while still over the top cool and fun

the only thing it slightly resembles is the head, which Manta already had in the 60's.
To say nothing that the 95 movie is largely American designed and not really representative of sentai aesthetics.
Is this all just people comparing it to the '95 Power Rangers movie and not the actual show itself? Because that I could see, given the Power rangers armor and all.

I miss when movies considered how to use lighting to give more colors to characters
>>
>>150977563

>>
>>150992883
I think back then when they had money they'd consider details like this. But because society has gotten so risk adverse for so long, it has made everyone so retarded and apathetic towards those details that they didn't realize how much of a difference overall effort makes. People also forget to maintain an illusion, it has to be flawless. Like even in that movie, I know it looks beautiful but the writing and acting is so bad, it does not instill any real immersion. It still has immersion to the degree that it keeps your attention and you can be there with Batman and his one-liners and get caught up in the action, but the type of immersion where you are truly within this world is lost because of the bad writing and acting.
So imagine shit nowadays where you can't even look at it without being bored because of how everyone lost the sense of what is aesthetically pleasing while being something new.
>>
>>150993712
>I think back then when they had money they'd consider details like this
Bro, recent movies were more expensive than the old ones. What are you talking about?
>>
>>150992883
the new batman film had great lightning
>>
>>150994066
Too bad the story was ass. And too long. All style at the end of the day.
>>
>>150993799
That's debateable and I was going off vibes rather than pulling up inflation and box office figures. You can do that if you want to. Expensive as an adjective in this case is very subjective without the data these companies have. But the reason they don't do that anymore is because of shit taste and/or cost cutting measures. Also back then, some movies had a merchandising juggernaut behind them appealing to millions of kids rather than a select few hundreds of thousands of adults who are willing to whore their money out for nostalgia and they also had VHS and DVD to recoup potential losses/mitigate risk. So that's another way of viewing shit back then as more expensive when it comes to production value. They were able to spend more on it and spend more time as well due to other ways of making it back. Think again anon.
>>
>>150994066
great lighting but not what I'm talking about. I'm talking about using lighting and color theory to echo the comics more. The Batman was mostly just emulating other noir and crime movies. the feel of a classic Batman comic isn't there(though I admit you can take it as modeling itself over more modern comics that emulate movies, like Lee Bermejo's work)
The Dick Tracy movie is full of what I mean.
