>Milt would always add sophisticated draughtsmanship and appeal. His stuff is rooted in realism, even when it comes to anthropomorphic, talking foxes.>Here is an interesting quote from John Grant's book Encyclopedia of Disney's Animated Characters:>"What is intriguing, however, is that the animators have succeeded in making a vixen have the screen presence of an attractive woman. In part this must be due to her voice, supplied by Monica Evans, but this cannot be a total explanation. One must simply applaud the skill of the Disney animators."
>>150982538I disagree. When I was younger, I watched Fox and the Hound before even touching Robin Hood so when I finally got around t watch this gay movie, I always felt confused by the presence of Marie because I always thought she was just Robin crossdressing or maybe his long lost gay twin brother with a girly voice pretending to be a women because this was a common trope on the cartoons I grew up with. Imagine my shock when the credits rolled before I ever got to see 'her' disguise be removed. Like, even bugs bunny in a dress is more sexy and feminine than this obvious trap. 'She' even tries to molest little boys, it doesn't get more gay and trans-coded than that. To think Disney's agenda of defeminization of female characters and female features as a whole in favor of androginification of beauty standards went this far back is crazy. But even crazier is the fact that they did an 180 and decided to make their flagship female anthro characters sexy again in Zootopia with Judy Hopps, arguably the sexiest anthro girl in mainstream media to date who easily dethrones Lola Bunny any day of the week. Why is Disney like this?

>>150982538Rooted in realism how? OP's picture is made up of Disney design tropes not evident in real foxes (look at the fur pattern) or humans. The Disney design tropes themselves are a fusion of T. S. Sullivant (who caricatured animal anatomy) with Preston Blair's rounded construction (for purpose of consistent animation rules across units). Milt (and Tom Oreb) later added stylisation from Ronald Searle starting with Sleeping Beauty (look at the horse). Whenever Disney artists would do their concept art "explorations", they would inevitably settle on the same cute proportions and big eyes, unchanged since the 1940s aside from a few angles added here and there. Disney style was never rooted in Realism, rather indirectly inspired through the veil of another artist's abstraction from it, and has only strayed further since.
