It got me thinking about art fundamentals through the lens of entertaining cartoon imagery, and to forget about "my style" (i.e. defence mechanism for crude schoolbook doodles). I see the same graphic vocabulary evident in all kinds of art that I would otherwise have been blind to, and have a broader appreciation of art overall. Now he's Capcom's equivalent to John Romita Jr, and it draws a groan every time we hear he's on the in-game art for a fighting game. He started shitting the bed in 98 with Sf Zero/Alpha 3. Weird, cuz his Vampire Saviour art from the same year was great. (BTW, track down the Gamefan strategy guides for Alpha 1, 2 and the Darkstalkers series for some great examples of his art. Won't be cheap. I got mine week 1 when they were cover-price. Now people want like 30-126 bucks for these awesome books)
