Desu, I think 00s X-Men, with all its flaws, blows Post-Early 90s X-Men out of the water. The vast majority of 90s X-Men is legitimately filler and unreadable trash rehashed over 10 different titles. It's just a few events people remember littered with unmemorable filler in between to pad them out. It featured characters like Marrow and Maggot in starring roles for God's sake. Nothing from the 90s comes anywhere near close Morrison, Whedon or Carrey. The 90s stories were, at best, fun trash, but even the art was so cartoony and muddled that there wasn't even that fun after Lee departed X-Men. For my money you can go from Nicieza straight to The Twelve just to be introduced to Morrison, and you'll miss 0. Just read Onslaught inbetween as a dumb event and you're set. It's all goddamn filler with 0 substance.
I mean yeah. I kinda see 1991ish as the end of the line. Morrisons stuff is to me the same as the cartoons, video games or movies, it's something else with the concept.
The 90s are complicated. Although they had more freedom than previous eras, at the same time there was a format that the magazine had to follow, which was that Rob Liefeld style. For every Sam Keith and Joe Mad, you had a Liefeld clone.
