Have you watched Over the Garden Wall this fall? Currently giving it my yearly watch.
Such a comfy show
Has there ever been a character me annoying in the history of co than that of Greg?
>>151008454Yes, way more
Would you a bird?
>>151007061I still have to watch it
>knocks you outnothing personnel kid
>>151007061Despite taking place on Halloween, I like to watch it in November. The music, the settings, and colors really make this thing special.>>151008454>grammatical errorSorry, anon, you know the rules. It means your post is invalid.
make way for chadberker
>>151010589The whole series is only about 2 hours long, so it's fairly bite size
>>151007061I watched it. I'm a suckered for happy limbo stories. Limbo stories have a certain feel to them.
>>151008454There probably is more annoying characters than Greg. But I don't think I've ever seen a character that ruins an otherwise good show as much as he does.
>>151007061I watched it a couple weeks ago with my boyfriend :3
>>151007061Is there a current mega for it? Been skipping my early tradition because I don't have it downloaded anymore
>>151012043who's dick is bigger?
Only good American cartoon in 500 years.
>people itt filtered by Greg11 years later and people still don’t get it
>>151011087I want Jason THUNDERberker fanart
>>151011985Without Greg, how do you show that Wurt's time in The Unknown is purely what he makes of it?
>people hating Greg
>romantic antagonist is an annoying Jew>executive-mandated inter-racial love interest wears full-face makeup for entire showBased?
>>151012426In white face no less.
>>151012408there's some truly nasty people in the world
>>151007061It's just Dante's Inferno
>>151012784But better
>>151012784its more of a modern re-tellingsince beatrice is their guide rather than vergiland even though the imagery is from inferno, the unknown functions more like purgatory
It's such a comfy little miniseries but at this point it's better off experiences as a film. Apparently someone made a movie edit of it but I haven't been able to find it myself so I'm thinking of taking a crack at it. I wish there was more of it than what we got but I wouldn't trust a remake or any new content even if the comics are good. There's no good way to have Wirt and Greg return to the Unknown that would feel satisfying and I'm not sure it would be the same with a new cast. Watching it for the first time the twist reveal was wonderful and recontextualized the previous events in a really clever way and you just can't do that more than once.
>>151013355i wouldnt watch it back to back without pause, each episode has its own arc and its own settingso when watched as a seamless movie, you get several episodic vignettetes with lots of time skips
>>151013371It's a different format than we are used to for films but not inherently a bad one IMO. Most people binge the show now anyway.
>>151013506we need more tomboy art of beatrice
I've seen a lot of comments in past /co/ threads where anons admitted to this making them tear up. I don't know what it is about it specifically that can invoke those feelings in people because I can attest the same, I do think it speaks to it's quality that it can incite such strong reactions. The last time I saw it was fresh after a breakup; I don't really recommend watching this after a breakup because it hits hard but I don't hold that against it. Since then I've held more affection for the series and I don't think that will change, but it really bums me out that we aren't ever going to get more of it outside of the graphic novels. I know it would probably be a bad idea and we should move on but if you had any ideas for how the story could be continued or how the setting could be revisited how would you do it?>Greg revisits The Unknown Solo>Greg revisits The Unknown with a younger sibling>Wirt revisits as an adult and a parent with his own child???
>>151013519This and also the other waifus
>>151013552lorna could never be a tomboybeatrice has the fiery attitude and fiery hair to go with itshe should wear mistys outfit
I watched this last year but I barely remember anything about it, not because it was forgettable but because I remember it the same way I'd remember a fever dream. It had such an eerie vibe I feel like I hallucinated all of it
so who is buying all of endecott and margaraittes tea?
>>151007061Fuck, I keep meaning to, but I'm at work away from home, and I'm missing Halloween because of it.Keep reminding myself I gotta rewatch it before Friday. Definitely soon for sure...if I can remember. Fucking work.
>>151013506Soulful shit. I love otgw
>>151008454Greg is literally the LEAST annoying younger sibling in fiction. Fuck you.
>>151014585he didnt read enough regency era novels
>>151012318Just torrent it like a normal person
>>151014585Fuck. I never experienced young love and I will never find my Beatrice Goddammit! All I got are my computers and the gym
>>151008454Look after your brother, Wirt.
>>151015192>I was no good to him alive
>>151014585beatrice is the one who will do the courting
>>151015192One is a birdTwo are the treesThree is the wind in the leaves
>>151007061I haven't yet, but I plan on it!
>>151013552Don't miss the important one here.
>>151008454You don't deserve Over the Garden Wall if you feel this way about Greg. A show this morbid and played this straight needs a comic relief character, and Greg delivers just the right amount of whimsy to make it all feel whole.
>>151009392Thats just straight up a bird, anon I am concerned.
>>151014236cuteness
Anyone ever buy any merch? Hottopic's had some clothing lines over the years.
What's he up to now?
>>151013519This fanart is so good holy shit
>>151007061No
I'm the highwayman.
>>151017839Probably just working on the elephant still.
>>151018684Okay, good to know.
>>151018938the what
>>151018938Huh?
>>151019487>>151019645He recently became a moonshiner and wanted to design his still too look like an elaborate elephant
>>151017839Well there was the recent stop motion short and a fan game he contributed to
post yfw they revealed what Greg's costume was supposed to be all along
>>151019487>>151019645Adult Swim collaborative animation special
>>151020677What a horrible idea.
>>151020677any idea what it is about?
>>151007061I watched it this year for the first time and I can't stop thinking about it. There are so many genius things hidden in it, like I don't think anyone has made this connection yet, but in Hippocrates' On the Nature of Man, he describes the four biles in the human body whose imbalances cause disease, and further associates elements and seasons to them. Guess what black bile represents? Its imbalance leads to depression. It's associated with Autumn. Its element is earth.
>>151021173>>151021727>Adult Swim’s The Elephant is an animated special where one team is responsible for one of three acts without any knowledge of what the others are making. With Sugar and Jones-Quartey working as a duo and McHale and Ward overseeing their own separate parts, The Elephant is guided by “game masters” Jack Pendarvis and Kent Osborne for a storytelling experiment that unfolds as a collaborative surprise, ultimately merging into a single, unexpected narrative.
>>151007061Thank you anon, I realized tonight is my last free night this week. I’m going to start watching it now since I prefer to do my annual rewatch on or before Halloween
>>151017283apparently someone commissioned an artist who worked on the show for thatso that is made by the same hands who made the show
we need male beatrice now
>>151022789I wonder what their dynamic is genderbent.
>>151022789No you do the same scenario with girls & their guide is Virgil this time.
>>151022812Male Beatrice is a guilt ridden guy who has no hope and feels that the bird thing was deserved because of what he's done, then femwirt would probably inspire him to try again she would be the optimistic one give him inspiration
cartoon network funded and produced this masterwork 11 years ago and it was a success by any reasonable metric then they proceeded to learn absolutely nothing from it
>>151023009>she would be the optimistic one give him inspiration>its just a facade because she also has guilt over allowing her sister to drown
>>151023046*then they proceeded to speedrun a half-assed version the very next year, killing any momentum their "miniseries division" might've once had
>>151024567It would be a shame if this where the reason why. Long Live the Royals was actually decent; it was at least a big improvement over the pilot. But I remember those talkback threads having only like a dozen people in them. There was absolutely zero hype for it, people weren't even tuning in
>>151023009Female wirt showing her sass to male Beatrice would probably be a bigger shock than wirt doing the same
>>151017839>IrishI knew a jew wouldn't be able to create a show this soulful.
>>151022268Sounds like genius in the making
>>151015305He is gonna hit that birdussy>still no 200 page otgw comic by area
>>151018957I'M THE HIGHWAYMAN
>>151024567I enjoyed this short lived show. Too bad it never became a full series. This song reminds me of it. https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=xwxaQSR_I58&list=RDxwxaQSR_I58&start_radio=1&pp=ygUWYmxhY2sgYnV0bGVyIGknbSBhbGl2ZaAHAQ%3D%3D
>>151007061No. I watched it once years ago and that was enough. I don't think it's a show worth rewatching. The world and creatures were interesting but I didn't like Greg. Didn't like Writ either much but he wasn't anywhere near as bad. A trek through this world but with any other leads would have been preferable.
>>151027216
>>151007061I watched it every year so far but I think I'll skip it this time and go eat leaves instead
>>151028303why dont you eat dirt instead?
>Tim Curry>John Cleese>Elijah WoodI'm still amazed they managed to land these names for the show
>>151029155fr tho
>>151027216I agree.
>>151029155Tim Curry's been in a bunch of cartoons so it's not that surprising, but IIRC this was when he was still relatively fresh off of having that stroke.
>>151029618>>151029831jesus, the fucking bots are out of control on this board. so much for the CAPTCHA, huh
RIP Jack Jones. He passed away in October last month. /mu/ didn't even give him a sticky, neither did TV.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gNVE7Pjm_nQ
I'm the Highwayman
>>151007061Anons are there any other media that get "Americana Fantasy" right, or approaches it? All i can think of is OTGW, Alice series, and maybe Goon and Hillbilly sort of count
>>151030461There's no doubt lots of that in books and comics but you'll have to go looking for them (I also don't recommend just googling "if you like Over the Garden Wall" because you'll just be given a list of things like Gravity Falls, Stranger Things and for some reason Ghibli films) and decide for yourself.
>>151027216I'll cut you
>>151030234RIP to a real one, he added so much to this series
>>151033278"No"???
>>151030298They just let a convict sing about his crimes in the middle of the tavern?
I did watch it for the first time less than a month ago with my Friend and my lil brotherWe loved it even if the end going into a love story pissed me off in have enough of love stories
>>151015305Boundaries between what?
>>151007061Not yet.
>>151034617It's not really a love story. It's about Wirt, not the broad he wants to get with.
>>151034647https://files.catbox.moe/juh9jj.pngthe boundary thats keeping him from ploughing her regency-era ass
>>151007061This is one of those things I should leave for the end of October, I watched it too early and now I'm not watching anything at all.gimme some good dubs options for next year rewatch
>>151007061Cartoon Network made the right call showing this the week after Halloween. This is too good to be pigeonholed.
>>151035448There's no such thing as good dubs.
>>151021173>>151025016duality of anon
>>151012784Which makes it based. Bad writers copy from their lackluster life in the suburbs of California. Good writers copy from classic texts that stood the test of time.
I freaking LOVE Autumn!!
>>151037943>Bad writers copy from their lackluster life in the suburbs of California. Good writers copy from classic texts that stood the test of time.those classic texts were also based on their writers own lackluster livesShakespeare was a blue-collar writer who wrote popular entertainment based off his own life and other popular works at the timeOTGW is almost certainly reflects pat mchales life at some points
modern day beatrice, anyone?
>>151021760I was always fascinated by humorism, forgive me if I’m wrong but does black bile truly represent autumn? I’ve always gotten conflicting answers between it representing autumn and it representing winter
>>151008454
>>151040211How would they fare if they swapped places? The Beast would feel like an episodic monster for Mabel and Dipper, in the other hand Wirt and Greg are fucked
>>151040420wirt would be almost certainly be trapped in the unknown due to his never ending neuroses
Anyone got the google drive link to the episodes in HD? I know it exists
>>151040211Paranorman and Psychonauts would also be good fodder for crossovers with OTG
>>151030461https://store.steampowered.com/app/231200/Kentucky_Route_Zero_PC_Edition/This one really hit hard for me, being a child of miners from the Appalachians.
>>151013538I don’t think there’s much more of a story to tell unless you go anthology like infinity train As for the feels. I think it’s the long scenic shots, the autumn vibes, the beasts singing and the general feel of somber nostalgia Also some callbacks to times before world war 1 ruined the world forever
>>151014889I expirienced young love at 25You don’t need to be young,You just need to be retarded. You’ll have all the ups and downs and the heartbreak and the highs and the disappointment and you will feel like a cuck and then you feel like a chad and in the end it will have consumed one or more years of your life of constantly thinking about that one girl. Will it work out?Who knows
>>151012784except there isn't dante sucking his own dick saying how fucking amazing he is as a writer. there isn't the parts where they're shitting on people who wronged them for the pettiest of things.or the inferno part. the unknown acts like an inbetween realm of life and death. I'd like to think that it's a place where ghosts roam until their tasks that tie them to ths earth are completed. or the heavily anti gay and suicide shit that even the church disagreed with.
>>151041992The suicide shit IS in there though. The trees the Woodsman cuts down for oil are made from souls who lose all hope.
>>151007061Its good but Greg sucks. I also hate the 9th episode with his stupid fairy tale dream. It's completely out of touch with what I like about the series. I always skip it when I rewatch the series.
>>151044291unironically kill yourself. You care nothing for this series.
>>151041394I am 27 1/2 do you think I can experiment young love ?Do you think I can live love like if I was a teenagers of a young adult ?I feel like i will miss an universal part of human life and the one that matter the most
>>151040211Who wears it best?
