Because the only writing millennials ever did was on fucking instant messengers and chat logs, which is also where they got 90% of their social interactions. So this is the only type of language they understand. Their characters all speak like this, they think 8 minutes of repetitive dialogue is a "natural" conversation and thus good storytelling, and they have no editors to go over their work because I guess that stifles the creative process or something. Once you realize all these people know is chatting in DMs and making Twitter threads, that's the only type of writing you're gonna see in their work. It's impossible to ignore now.

I feel like the topics the show touches on are very mundane for a series about people being held hostage by a psychotic robot. The creator has made the (likely phony) claim of being inspired by I Have No Mouth And I must Scream, and while the show shouldn't have to show brutal torture and gangbangs like the original text to get a similar point across, not by any means, but it would be nice if it had a more gripping sense of gravitas beyond what feels like mundane meandering.
