What I'm saying is, something that's trying to be funny but either has bad or poorly delivered jokes is irritating in a way that something played straight, even if it's not very compelling, isn't.

What I mean is, something that's bad is simply bad, something that's trying to be witty but keeps falling flat is actively embarassing.
