>potentially the best Batman cartoon ever made
>it's a team-up show...
Seriously, what the fuck were they thinking?
>>
That they were making one of the best Batman cartoons ever made.
>>
>>151015131
Don't mind the occassional team-up episode but the gimmick really held it back in my opinion. It is easily the best Silver Age Batman adapation, though, and wish more people embraced Batcamp over Batwank.

>Batman's rich history allows him to be interpreted in a multitude of ways. To be sure, this is a lighter incarnation, but it's certainly no less valid and true to the character's roots than the tortured avenger crying out for mommy and daddy.
BTFOs edgy Batman fans. How did Bat-Mite do it?
>>
The team-up aspect was specifically what made it great. Batman got to play the straight-man to a ton of other more vibrant heroes, and his different relationships with them helped build his character far beyond the normal brooding shit a solo-Batman show focuses on.
>his rivalry with Green Arrow
>mentoring Blue Beetle
>tolerating Aquaman
>rehabilitating Plastic Man
>butting heads with Guy
>his friendship with Supes and Wondy
>straight up being jealous of Steve Trevor

Despite being a "campy" Batman show, it gave us a more dynamic depiction of the dark knight than most people have ever seen, especially on TV. And they still had time to fit in the occasional brooding episode, too.
>>
>>151015115
I mean, that's how the comics of it went; so why would a comic series that involves team ups not have their show involve team ups?

No, it actually is the best Batman cartoon ever made.
>>
Brave and the Bold is the best Batman Show.
My Adventures is the best Superman show.
Justice League Action is the best JL show.

DCAU? more like BTFO.

This show single handily got me interested in capeshit where as before for the majority of my childhood i thought superheroes were overrated and boring because i wasnt interested in nolan batman at the time and superman returns was one of the dullest movies i had ever seen up to that point in my life. Goated cartoon

No. Just no. I'm not even as hard on it as a lot of people but just no. TAS is legendary and even the old Ruby Spears show is better. And that's not even getting into the live action shit.

Supposedly if season 3 didn't take off we were gonna get a JLI spinoff. And I mean I like the show but I'd really much rather that.
>>
>>151016350
Barman: Year One is perhaps the best Batman in animated form. It's almost perfect. I would have loved an ongoing series in that style/tone, played completely straight. No subversion, no bullshit.
>>
>>151016824
Stretching the definition of "show" but the Fleischer Superman cartoons are easily the best, purest Superman animations.

Honestly, that's what I was hoping to get out of that recent Batman series set in the 1930s that I can't even remember the name of. I'd love a no-nonsense period piece about a caped detective fighting crime, and just go all in on the noir and grittiness.

My DCAU dis was immaculate. Beautiful even.

>Seriously, what the fuck were they thinking?
Probably that DC has an extremely rich history of characters who are underappreciated, especially in mainstream cartoons, and that Batman would offer an excellent springboard to show them off. If you weren't seriously into comics as a kid this could have been your first exposure to Blue Beetle or Deadman.
Even more impressively, I think every single character in its very large cast was handled respectfully and in an entertaining manner. This show has probably the best iteration of Aquaman, and proves he doesn't need to be the butt of the joke as "useless" or reinterpreted as some brooding king.
>>
>>151017475
Yeah easily the most memorable & likable Aquaman there is. Don't need to kill his son either.
>>
I really wish dc as a whole used this interpretation of the red hood more often. I like his style of being a gritty but joking vigilante hero who contrasts batman's more serious methodical approach
>>
>>151017605
What is this a red hood for the Atom?
>>
>>151017605
Jason todd brooding edgelord biker red hood is uberly popular with young women and teenage girls so they sadly wont change it even if i agree that hero joker is a better interpretation of the character. Im glad women have their own cape crushes but even the 50s red hood design was peak. Kinda a side tangent but i HATE how what is considered the worst jason todd red hood design by alot of people is his batman and robin design which takes heavy inspiration from the classic villainous red hood design complete with pill helmet and its hated for looking "too silly".

Wrong.
The real best Superman show was Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman from the 1990s.
Teri Hatcher was so fucking hot

>>
>>151015115
>>151015143
The team-up is what makes it really stand out, as it's not just Batman who gets spotlight, but multiple heroes from the DC universe. Many of which weren't that popular or well-known at the time, and offered a fun twist on already familiar characters. Had they only done wacky adventures with Batman characters, it would have probably gotten repetitive or emulate the 60s Batman way too hard. Adding other heroes gave it more freedom on stories and villains to fight.
>>
>>151017832
My one complaint is that not enough bat villains showed up but i still love the show nonetheless

Maybe a little but the fans could obviously forgive it because the rest of the show was so good. So many lesser show runners crash and burn their series just to stick it to faceless nobodies on a laotian claymation forum.
>>
>>151017475
Leaning into the King Arthur, chivalrous adventurer, persona is the best decision this show ever made.

I like that the team took a lot of lessons to heart from JLU and didn't have characters constantly jobbing.
