Why did john lassater push for this shit series so much? Who the hell liked cars 1 in the first place to justify any of the sequels?

Little kids

As a 10 year old i hated the first cars but then again i was never big into cars or trucks as a kid
>>
Talking Cars

This stuff sells itself.

Cars is Disney's 7th best selling media Franchise and has sold over 21 billion dollars in merch. It's sold more shit than the looney tunes. Of course they were going to make sequels and spinoffs.

How does such a shitty movie generate so much merchandise sales? Im honestly baffled by how popular cars toys are
>>
John's a huge gearhead, comes from growing up in a car family.

Boys like cars, not hard to understand.
>>
>>151015965
I always got the impression that the only people who like vehicles with faces that spoke were little boys ages 3 to maybe 9
>>
>>151016328
Boys like cars. My son fucking loves cars and trucks so he loves pixar's cars. It's not even that bad of a franchise.
>>
>>151016328
This is now canon for me.
>>
>>151015965
I thought the first Cars film was good. Just didn’t think it was as strong of a franchise as Toy Story, Monsters Inc, and The Incredibles.

The first Cars didn't need to be "good." It just needed to make for a profitable IP that sells merchandise, which it did ridiculously well for obvious reasons. You should be grateful Lasseter whored it out so much because its success probably allowed Pixar to experiment with other more ambitious originals in the years that followed.

Maybe its because i was more into star wars and superhero action figures instead of hot wheels but i never bought a cars toy. I have gotten into hot wheels lately and the collectorbase for that is even more rabid and insane then regular action figure collectors
>>
>>151015965
Me. Cars 1 is one of the best racing films ever. Cars toys have never left stores since the movie released for a reason.
>>
>>151017626
Well im glad you liked it anon. Do you own any cars merch still?
>>
>>151015965
Not only at Pixar, but at Disney Toons Studios as well. He had them make those Planes movies and they prioritized endless Cars spin-offs over the Tinker Bell movies.

Before the studio shut down, they were gonna make movies about Boats, Subway trains and even a third Planes movie in space

I had a lot of Cars toys. I wish I didn't demolish or lose them because some of them are actually worth something.

watching Cars again as an adult, it's interesting the amount of "neat" to "weirdly obscure and specific" shout-outs there are to IRL cars, manufacturers, brand biases, old ads, etc. that are completely missed by both the kids who just like the talking red car (not the same kids who already had extensive Matchbox collections, those kids are doomed to be car nerds anyway) and the parents who bought them toys.

I only come here to read the Sunday newspaper comics, usually. And check if there's ever a 2000AD thread.

Are there baby cars in this universe? Or do they just begin their existence as fully manufactured vehicles? If the former, how are they born? If the latter, how are they manufactured?

You have to remember that NASCAR was at the absolute peak of its popularity in the 2000s. The whole thing is also a love-letter to small-town America.

what is it with internet's recent obsession with these kinda images? dudes stuck to 20 tubes blindfolded. i don't know if you're trying to be edgy or what but it's pretty cringe.
