>>151017202Punisher Max omnibus. So far made it through the Born part, now on to the 'main story'.Holy fuck, these 4 issues have been amazing. If the rest of the run is like this, then i'm in for a treat. That cold chilling fear whenever Frank kills one of his comrades in cold blood. And the eclipse theme fits so damn well. And behelit for the aftermath has such a hauting effect. Chef fucking kiss.
>>151017202Peanut(not to be confused with the newspaper comic "Peanuts"). Going on to the 2nd edition of Hellaween next
>>151017202None
>>151017202Parker ThunderboltsMultiple Warheads v1&2Kamandi
>>151017700What's next? Elves?
>>151017202Ditko Spider-Man. I've been reading it for two years at this point.About to read Scorpion's debut.
>>151019015Was leaning towards volume 2 of Dwarves. Redwin is a pretty cool character and I want to see where he goes
>>151019523Are you reading them like you would if they released monthly? Or is it just hard to get through?
>>151017202Still working on the second Conan the Barbarian Omni. Started the first Savage Sword omni as well, but I just read the first story.
>>151017768I didn't like Born much, and I hated Welcome Back Frank and the several issues of the ongoing I read. One day maybe I'll give Max a try.
>>151017202I finally finished Shade The Changing Man. Started it around march but had a 5-6 week break around July-Aug from all comics. It was one of those series that leaves you really empty when you finish it, knowing there will be no more cozy days of reading something truly special, and it was special. I really didn't know what to expect from it even though I've read a lot of Milligan so I was surprised at how well it lives up to its name, the actual style of the writing and the entire comic changes, and it does so about 4 times over the course of 70 issues, you can prefer one over the other but it just works so well when you take it as a whole. It was also cool to see Bachalo develop the style as he went along, it's always nice seeing that in a long running comic but it worked extra well in a comic that kept changing on you. I read Sandman years back so I liked his work on Death but at the start of Shade he's not as good but by the end he develops that style, a style that sadly didn't last long, for example I hated his art when I read New X-Men and I've seen some pages of his interiors from the past several years and I'm not a fan. Most of the other artists were very good with exceptions like Brendan McCarthy that was just amazing. All I knew about the series is that some say it should've ended at 50 but I disagree because 51-53 is kind of needed, and there were some other issues I loved from the post50 era like #54 (The Perpetual Motion Machine) was beautiful, #64 (One From the Heart) was really good and from Roots of Madness, The Impossible Photograph was great and The Fool of The Froth I liked even better. I think for some the ending isn't as loved because it doesn't give you that perfect closure many expect from fiction but I'm cool with it, I don't need everything addressed like that and neatly folded and organized at the end of the storyI don't know what was up with that short story from Vertigo X Anniversary Preview, were they thinking of Shade series?
>>151020443How you liking Conan so far? I always stayed away from the main marvel book, but gave it a shot earlier this year and liked what I read. Savage is the better of the two in my opinion though
just returned this to the library today, pretty funny, comfy read, like catching up with old friends
>>151021035Does it pass the Bechdel test?
>>151019935I have to be in the right mood. I'm mostly reading it for the art and for historical reasons.
>>151021090She doesn't even like the test. Irrc it was a throwaway line in one of her three panel comics. I think she's even said that real life doesn't pass the test on a regular basis. It's just one of those things angry people grabbed onto and ran with. Man fuck this captcha
>>151021005NTA, I agree 100% about Savage Sword being better. >>151017202I was reading some of this last night. It's mostly great, but sputters a little once you get to the second Atomics series (Madman Atomic Comics, I think). I don't think he ever topped Oddity Odyssey, though.
>>151021113Yeah that's fair. The art is really good and definitely carries the run. Stan's narration is awful, but the dialogue and plots are enjoyable. Skipping narration boxes actually does wonders when reading silver age marvel
>>151021232Sounds like Yahtzee and the pc master race joke
>>151017202Miller's Daredevil. Last issue I read was 173 and it was one of the weakest issues so far. Overall I am not impressed so far.

>>151023654>>151023673all at once?
>>151023461It gets better.
>>151024568i try to read at least 1 issue a day
>>151021035That billy goat was funny
>>151023461Report back when done
>>151023654Is dynomutt realistic? I just want a cartoon adaptation
>>151025050Just stick with the cartoon.
>>151021005I'm enjoying it, I really like that bronze era art and I enjoy the picaresque nature of the stories. I fuckin' hate the form factor of an omnibus though, I wish they had paperback collections out.
Might read some Brandon Graham. Gonna retry King City.
who cares
>>151017202I don't because comics are satanic they turn children GAY
This because never read it but always interested. It's kinda avarage but not entirly bad nor entirly good, I like it more as "Alternate universe" story than a "DC story"
>>151025994Yeah Omnis can be annoying. Not a reader friendly format. I'm a huge savage, dark horse, and original REH stories fan, so getting some Conan that's off the beaten path has been fun
>>151017202Nothing recently, last thread was>Thirteenth FloorRecommended.>Bringing Up FatherMixed, some funny jokes, but I was glad to finish the volume I had.>Art Out of TimeNot worth it, the strip pages are unreadable.>Scarlet TracesMixed, not great but interesting if you are a Wells fan.>Fiends of the Eastern FrontNice quick read if you only focus on the original run, great art.Recently reading Japanese comics and going over my screenshots from this year's reading. Hyaku Monogatari was interesting, some good use of inks, but the stories weren't very frightening - neat look at what might have scared people in Edo period though. Parasyte remains a highlight from the year. Also quite enjoyed looking back over some of the Daily Dredds I'd saved - they're very punchy and have great worldbuilding and closing joke lines.
>>151025020Yeah it was. When they introduced him to the flock in that one nighttime panel, and immediately cut away I was like, aww come on, you're not gonna show how he acclimates to the flock? And then came the delayed punchline a few pages later.
How do i read cable?
>>151019523Bro what I started reading ASM 3 weeks ago and I’m at issue 230 only stopping to catch up on Spectacular which has not been very good
>>151028388If I did that, I would have dropped it during the first week.
>>151028336You don't.
>>151028388That's too fast >>151019523That's too slow
Nice one, guys.
Mawil's Kinderland
>>151026433I reread this last week.I definitely enjoyed it way more the second time around. I really hated the ending on the first of round, but I liked it just fine this time. He also draws great ass.
>>151026433Don't bother, guy is just crap.
>>151031510But he's a Conanfag.
>>151030593Interesting.
Reading X-Men from Claremont onwards, just got to #113#111 was the first definitively great issue so far, which is kind of a shame. All the others were some varying level of good, thankfully, but I think the space stuff kind of lost me and its aftermath wasn’t too eventful. I enjoyed #109 as a more relaxed issue, but felt the Wolverine bit kind of detracted from it and didn’t really lead anywhere. No complaints like that for #111. The closest I can get to one is Mesmero jobbing to Magneto in a somewhat unexplained fashion; otherwise I’ve legitimately got almost no complaints. An interesting premise, great dialogue, a fun plot, all wrapped up in some great art and a cool twist. Such a great cover, too. Look at all those posters!
>>151020776don't waste your time. you're going to hate yourself for doing it
>>151033368I'm jealous. I hated that piece of shit run until Paul Smith came aboard. Not exactly true, but I mostly hated it.
>>151017202Again?
>>151017202Peak. Genuinely laughing out loud thoughout, Segar was the man.
>>151029414You're just right ;)
>>151033607Why?
Board's too fast today.
>>151036619nah youre just too slow
Just read the Conan Scourge of the Serpent story in this. Interesting setup so far, art was good and actiony. The artist gave Conan some off facial expressions, but more just funny to notice rather than actually distracting. Gonna check out the other 2 stories tomorrow
>>151017480>/co/ doesn't read comics>/fit/ doesn't lift>/b/ isn't random
>>151028336There was an arc of Cable + Hope doing a cat-and-mouse game with Bishop throughout time. I thought it was pretty good.
>>151033368I've been debating on whether to read the entire volume or just the Claremont part. That is always hard to decide for me, I try to read entire volumes to absorb more history but sometimes it falls off when the writers change.
>>151034944took me 45 fucking seconds to realize those are her eyes and not her eye brows
>>151034944I think I read two volumes worth of the dailies, need to check the sundays out.
>>151017480>>151038259What's the point of posts like these?
>>151038914to catch stray (You)s from retards
>>151039684Rude.
>>151017202>Fury MAX>The Haunted World of El Superbeasto>old Punisher issues>Kick-Ass (Lizewski)>300/Holy TerrorHonestly, the big thing that's been keeping me reading comics in the last couple years has been re-visiting the source material for capeshit movies.Mostly been doing it for Marvel films, but I want to read a lot more 80s DC stuff, then watch the original Superman films and re-watch the Dark Knight trilogy. I dunno, I'll probably re-read Empowered and catch up on the Absolute line soon as well.
>>151040144Actually, sidenote, I also started reading golden age Action Comics for the Superman stuff, and that nigga is hilarious.
>>151038319What a maroon.
>>151038314I can’t really comment since I’m only on the Claremont part, but I *can* say that (even though it just starts out kind of okay/pretty good) the run does eventually get really good.I just don’t know why nobody mentions that. Everyone treats the entire Claremont saga as peak, but nobody mentions that you need to trudge through like 40 issues of just above-average to get to the good stuff.
>>151041801>trudge through like 40 issuesJesus Christ...
>>151040180GA supes is kino. Love this story of him helping this boxing champion in Superman # 2
>>151041822I mean, 40 out of approximately 400 really isn’t that much. I’ll agree that it’s quite a lot in generl, though.
>>151040180Siegel Superman is peak
Bump
I read the new Asterix.
>>151043628
>>151043628How is it?
>>151041822It was more than that for me.
>>151017202Currently reading Bone for the first time.I'm about halfway through. It is good and I like to so far though I don't think its a super masterpiece, at least yet.
>>151046371Go to hell.
>>151046371That's as good as it gets.
>>151017202I read some of this issue the other day and it was pretty dark and fun
>>151041885>kayoed
>>151042209is this real lettering? it looks like shit. why is it not centered?
>>151047347Ok, still good though.
>>151017202What the hell was this even about i remember reading a few issues and it felt like Frankenstein with super powers with a bag of coke ,
>>151047767That's how the lads did it back in the day.
>>151044709It is good. On paper it is a good book. But for me it misses something and there are certain points i think are underwhelming.I would rate it a solid book but not better than the early Uderzo books.
>>151038289This is the correct answer.
Just started reading Thorgal from Cinebook issue 1 Thorgal01- Child of the Stars (the origin story rather than the Betrayed Sorceress first published in French); I'd seen it recommended for years, and a recent Thorgal thread prompted me.I read up to the end of Betrayed Sorceress, and found it Ok, nice art, energetic story, somewhat simple plot (I'd guess for 10 to 15 year olds) Vikings were stupider than I expected, but it fits.
>>151048913dumping a few to show how blockheaded they were
>>151048946
>>151048969
>>151048983
>>151049010
>>151049052
>>151049133Seems alright.
>>151046483What is your problem?
Been reading these reprints of the Batman comic strip from the 40's. Pretty comfy reading, it's by the original creative team of Bob Kane, Bill Finger, Charles Paris etc. Good pulpy entertainment.>>151048913GOAT fantasy series. Regrettably the versions I picked up in english only came in TPB format as opposed to the larger album format which is standard for French comics, but it was also one of the early books released by Cinebook.
>>151051953>GOAT fantasy series Right? That other anon is kind of underselling it
>>151052485
>>151052506
>>151052532
>>151052548Some pages to better show off the series
>>151052571Cool
>>151047767Because golden age comics were made on the cheap with whoever would take the work. The guy doing lettering probably had zero training or standards set for the job except to finish his work quickly.
nothin right now
>>151054220crazy considering comic strips
I've been dropping everything.
>>151057624But this is about reading, not dropping.
>>151017202The comics that we have been reading???
>>151058416That's why I didn't name anything.
>>151060084
>>151046371>>151047347I've always felt that the whole thing went awry when the cow race became such a big deal.
>>151056745NTA comic strips were a prestigious and respectable profession. Comic books were looked down upon. There used to be a similar, but less dramatic, split between Movies and TV and then again between primetime TV and daytime TV like Soap Operas. If you do enough reading about those days you'll find out that a lot of guys were straight up ashamed that they worked in comics.
>>151048913I think I'd like this more if it had a more lively color palette. I'd much rather look at BNW than this kind of color.
>>151062468I don't think it would work with the detailed inks.
>>151047767Also worth noting, it's from the Sunday strip. Again, probably a rush job or misprint.
>>151017480he's right. i dont read comic books
lately ive only been reading manga. sorry
i only come to /co/ for comics and comic discussion seems like it takes place less and less besides shitposting about the recent top 5 books or so.
>>151064385Did you at least read comics way before that?
>>151064963yes
>>151064422It's become very slow and generally nobody actually wants to discuss anything, just say contrarian, zoomer or throw out insults at people for having different taste, even if someone atemps to start a discussion about why something worked or didn't work he's met with a swift :you're jsut a contrarian" reply and I imagine that discourages said person from trying again in the future. There's the Black Hole thread up now and the Thor thread from yesterday that just stay up for a long time and yet nobody wants to actually discuss the comics. These threads aren't any better, nobody's actually talking or interacting with people./co/ is truly dead.
>>151062468The saturation is off on these scans. It isn't actually that gray.
>>151064422>>151065121Another issue with these threads is the fact that there's a shit ton of comics. The chances of the already low amount of anons on here being intimately familiar with a decent number of the comics posted is slim
