This is why the couple usually gets together at the END of the movie\series\whatever, not at the beginning. I'm certain when the show is finally cancelled they'll get their happy ending, but until then Moe is funnier and you can tell more stories with a miserable Moe.

You can still have miserable Moe (When he is at his bar) while having Maya be a reason for him to go home each day. Honestly, jokes about how shit his bar is and his many illegal activities are funnier than "Moe tries to kill himself and fails". Comic Book Guy only had some of his edge sanded off for example.
