Why no one on /co/ cares about Thorgal? Too European?
>genocide comic reading population>hurr why no on talk comics durr
>>151027708Why you can't speak english faggot?
>>151027770Speak for yourself
>>151027770>>151027776Is "Why does no one on /co/ care about Thorgal?" more correct?
>>151027952Yes
>>151027708I'd read it but the English releases seemed like a mess last time I checked, didn't feel like putting the effort in to track down the correct order.
>>151027708I don't think it's any good after book 12 so obviously hasn't been relevant for more than 30 years
>>151027708I read like a dozen volumes last year. Excellent series and I want to reread it soon to get further in the story. That volume where he goes to Hel has a lot of visuals that live rent free in my head. Land of Qa is epic and Alinoe is one the creepier comics I've read

>>151028390Would
>>151027708>We have Conan overseas
>>151029188It's actually nothing like Conan
Kurwa
>>151027708The ancient aliens thing ruined it for me.
If there is prehistoric megafuna present, i might give it a read.
>>151029188I dont recall Conan being about a Viking from space who has a complicated love-hate relationship with the norse gods and just wants to raise his family in peace?
>>151027708Fucking yurofags with their pretentious overdrawn shit.GET IT THROUGH YOUR FUCKING HEADS.N O B O D Y C A R E S.
>>151030252It used to be published in a comic magazine primarily read by kids.If its well-drawn its not automatically pretentious.Youre an idiot.
>>151027708Yeah too European. I read plenty of it when it was reprinted in Fantomen in parts and it's fun. I honestly don't care for the Sci Fi angle except for that one story from his youth when a gnome had to borrow his amulet since he was tasked with creating jewelry of a metal that does not exist, so a metal from space that can't be found on earth qualified.
>>151028390Oh he is thrilled in the first panel.
>>151027708All euroslop blends together it's the same fantasy aesthetic style constantly recycled
Too European for natural discussion, but it is a based series. Deserves a /co/ storytime but it would be a marathon effort which would require some dedication. European comics that have been storytimed on here in the past and found a little bit of /co/ fanfare have been like 1/8th of the length of Thorgal.Translations for the French/Belgium comics just take waaaay too long compared to Japanese manga now basically releasing translations the day of, nor do they try hard enough with international distribution being happy to keep to their current pace and production numbers, so casual international audiences don't grow as much in comparison.
>>151030344The sci-fi angle is subdued and not always amazing, but I think it gives the comic a weird personality that would be missed if it was a straight forward fantasy >>151030178Check the top right panel
Might read.
>>151027708It's in no American bookstore or LCS, at least no one I've ever been in.
>>151030760>>151030344It's basically an alternate history where thanks to the spaceship thorgal arrived in, the magical elements of the old pre-christian world never go away.
>>151031579Yeah what's up with Euro comics? Thorgal has a fucking video game from the 2000s yet I would never know about the series if not for online comic communities. Same thing with Valerian and Laureline. I was reading comics for years before the movie and never saw the series at any lcs or bookstores
>>151027708Who knows.
>>151027708It was awesome up to a point. They're currently milking it for all it's worth with a handful of spin-offs.
>>151027708why is she so orange?
>>151031656I can only speak about my own country (the Netherlands), but outside of duck comics and stuff like Suske and Wiske the hobby is basically being kept afloat by dinosaurs. I'm 36 and I'm always one of the youngest people interested in comics. There's virtually no online discussion on anything anywhere as well. France seems to be in a slightly better place with magazines aimed at teens.
>>151030238Buddy that is literally the kid who played Conan in that one scene. You want to sit there and tell me there's NO Conan in this and you're lying more to yourself.
>>151032511Thorgal is basically as different from Conan as can be personality wise.
>>151032511It predates that movie by 5 years. Maybe they read the books though, who can say? Thorgal is a guy who tries to live a normal life but cant. Because he isn't a normal man the world wont let him.Meanwhile Conan is about a man who came from nothing and forges his own destiny through his wits and swordarm.About as different thematically as you can get.
