It was mostly well received, and those that didn't like it didn't dislike it for political reasons.Though it did annoy some Zionists with the Palestine analogue plot point.

And Superman behavior contradicts the Conservative politics. The Conservatives want to cut aid, cut charity, and withdraw from world affairs, or outright make them solely for American interest. Superman is the opposite of this; he tries to protect everyone regardless of who they are. When Conservative see Universal hero like Superman they do not think of a Good person, they think he's a some kind of Globalist agent. They would be ok with the film if it ends with Superman getting torn apart by the people he's trying to help, because it matches their message that over-generosity deserves to be punished. In fact, they would root for Luthor if he were to just drape an American flag on his project.
