It is perfect in every way and no adaptation can do it justice. What do you think of the works of Charles Burns?
>>151036755I have to read it again. I only remember tiny pieces of it, and I remember thinking it was just okay.I recently read Final Cut and thought it was just okay as well.
>>151036755I think I gotta fart
>>151036755>I think I gotta shit
>>151036755meh
>>151036755i think i need to piss
>>151036755Everyone who read and liked this has abandoned /co/.
>>151036755>What do you think of the works of Charles Burns?A style/aesthetic pretending to be an artistic statement, beloved by FantagraphicsYes Charles you made everything use the same record-grooves shading, you are a BIG BOY
>>151036755>artstyle clearly suited for an animated adaptation>animation has such a bad reputation in the west that it’s being made as boring live action
Black Hole was bad and I think Charles Burns is gay
>>151036755>no adaptation can do it justiceI believe you, but if it has to happen Jane Schoenbrun is a pretty great choice imo.
would rather see an el borbah movie
>>151036755Is this the one where everybody is ugly and growing vaginas?
>>151036755i've seen it in stores a few times, it doesn't catch my interest
>>151036755Pretty average, Ito made this totally obsolete
>>151039356In what way?
>>151036755Lame ending. Nice inks.
>>151039415Having dozens of black and white body horror comics that are better drawn and more effective than it
>>151037222What do you consider masterpieces?
>>151039584More effective at what?
>>151039690Here are some recent comics I enjoyed more than Final Cut.
>>151039910I see. Only read Stages of Rot and Sunday from those. Not impressed at all.
>>151039922They were a welcome breath of fresh air to me. Sunday is the best western comic I've read from the past 5 years, maybe 10. Not quite a masterpiece, but enjoyable.Blood of the Virgin is also about making movies.
>>151039922Incidentally, what are some of your recent favorites?
>>151040008>>151040085I see. He's no Joyce, I found it remarkably unremarkable as a work. I haven't been all that impressed with any recent comic book, I liked Final Cut. Other than that I read manga, books and watched some films.
>>151040241What comics have impressed you?I don't think I've ever been impressed by one, though I like plenty.
>>151040425>What comics have impressed you?Well that's sad. Maybe the medium is just not for you, you should try some other hobbies, maybe you'll find something that sparks more passion in you.
>>151040490I love the medium. Why are you dodging the question?
>>151040715I'm not dodging the question, I'm being sincere. If the medium never impressed you then why not diverting your attention to something else? Comics and manga have impressed me, music has impressed me, film has impressed me, books have impressed me.
>>151036755>"Wuh eff…STDs turn you into a monster as a metaphor for how society treats people with STDs, but with high-school teenagers?"Such brilliant! So bravery! Wow!
>>151041353Move along, capeshitter.
>>151041467>"you don't like bullshit, well then you must like horseshit!">t.smuggie tier response
>>151041559Don't make me repeat myself, capeshitter.
>>151041693lol:>"Wuh eff…STDs turn you into a monster as a metaphor for how society treats people with STDs, but with high-school teenagers?">Such brilliant! So bravery! Wow!
>>151041733Your brain broke, huh?
>>151041790Say the line, Bart.
>>151041467Your pretentiousfags getting high sniffing your own farts are cancer. You're embarrassed to be liking comic books so you shit on 99% of them in an effort to seem superior but you just look like midwits that can't have fun. Your garbage "true indie" creators could never write like Gerber and Starlin, they could never draw like Daniel Warren Johnson and Tradd Moore, and they could never do both like Walt Simonson and Frank Miller.
>>151036755Wrong
>>151041215I asked you which comics, and you just turned around and dismissed me.I find comics intriguing and entertaining, and the medium has a lot of potential. But impressive? Not yet, at least not since I was a kid.
>>151042544And vice versa.
>>151042544Those guys couldn't do what Burns does either.>>151044760Exactly.
>>151040241>He's no JoyceYou being serious?
>>151042544I like both, asshole
>>151036755I like how Black Hole doesn't end. It just stops. Interesting book to say the least.
>>151039695At being better
>>151039356They're different beasts. They have similarities but I love both.
>body horror as a metaphor for the changes of adolescenceYeah I think I got the pointI do like the uncredited art assists by Don Simpson though, Burns must have really fucked up trying to draw sexy girls. It's not even gradual, it goes from his usual high-contrast shadowed monster faces with the groove shading to flat "Anton Drek" style from physiognomy to Simpson's linework, only the hair looking like Burns.
>finished itThis is one of those things where you have to have lived something similar to it to really give a fuck. I belong to jusst after that generation but outside of the buying weed part (very accurate) I don't relate too closely and honestly Burns could have done this without any need for metaphor except then no one would have paid money to read an account that goes nowhere and he knew this. It's creepy mainly to keep you interested and after Twin Peaks I lost my taste for "weird makes it cool." It's not bad, it's just not a masterwork either and as I mentioned earlier him relying on another artist to compensate for being unable to draw attractive women lowers my opinion of the book. Either Simpson redrew the womens' faces or Burns copied his work REAL hard, not sure which.
>>151039356>Ito made this totally obsoleteThey're pretty similar in their goals, I wouldn't go all fucking weeb with the "GRORIOUS NIHON DO IT BETTER" bullshit. You can enjoy both.
>>151039356>Ito made this totally obsoleteNot possible.
It's funny to see the extremes. For some, a comic that isn't about good guys punching bad guys is pretentious garbage. For others, any comic that's not on the literary level of Joyce or Shakespeare is not worth reading.
>>151048306If anything comics could learn from both that black and white still has room to exist. I love color stuff just as much but with some of the iffy color jobs we see nowadays maybe some books are better in black and white
>>151051432Definitely.
Your favorite indie creator has a box of X-Men comics hidden away somewhere.
>>151039356Yeah, and Tim Buckley made X'ed Out obsolete before Burns even drew it.
>>151039690I'm a different anon who also was not overly impressed by Black Hole.I felt that Jimmy Corrigan and Day Tripper were both better 'mature' graphic novels than Black Hole. There's also a lot of capeshit (Gotham Central, 52, etc...) that I enjoyed more as well. Also any given Tintin book.
>>151042544>and Tradd MooreThank fuck, he's still mentally 12
>>151053948>Gotham Central, 52Really? I couldn't get into those.
>>151054391Mentally older than you, then.
>>151036755its shit
>>151053948Ware is so shallow and shit.
>>151036755>What do you think of the works of Charles Burns? I'm unfamiliar.
>>151057825Burns is shallower.
>>151060249No.
>>151060272Yes.
>>151061976Hell nah.
>>151062028Yes. Ware is much better.
>>151062054No. Ware is much worse.
>>151062028>>151061976They're both kind of boring.
>>151062383You're just naysaying. Ware is better. >>151062537Burns is more boring.
>>151063554Nah, Ware is far worse.
>>151047309Better at what?
>>151053948Jimmy Corrigan is awful, Ware is a crummy writer and a mediocre artist hiding behind gimmicks.
>>151064163Jimmy Corrigan is good. Ware spins decent yarn, and Jimmy Corrigan unfolds as a downbeat adventure that incorporates places and people like almost nothing else in comics.Ware is a terrific artist, but he chose a style that may not be to everyone's taste.Black Hole is dull, terribly-written shit. Milquetoast angst and a heavy reliance on off-putting visuals.
