Regardless, the point is that Steven Universe had too many issues for it to be solved with fetish baitBiggest issue: Poor focus. They had this whole universe to explore, but what did they keep the camera on? The wrong Universe. Instead of looking at the Gems, like why they had this massive empire with weapons and warriors without looking at any possible enemies, it was episode after episode of Steven's human bullshit. Both the dull fucks he surrounded himself with in Beach City, and the weak melodrama that led to so much crying and singing and singing while crying.This loops into the structure of the show, which wandered away from a monster of the week format where corrupted gems were fought then bubbled to the "Steven Bomb" structure after Mirror/Ocean Gem, that had five episodes released across a single week. It built anticipation, sure, but that only added to the let down; the ads would trailer something exciting and interesting, then months of waiting were met with zero action, mostly filler, and an episode about Ronaldo LARPing.The monster of the week stuff at least kept some of the mystery while feeding little bites of what could be behind everything.tl;dr fetish pandering wouldn't have made Steven Universe better
