AT getting picked up was the animation industry’s biggest mistake ever, that show is what brought talentless tumblrites into animation, that show is what caused executives to realize cheap cost-cutting beanmouth shit is the way to go. It’s funny how people shit on Nickelodeon for greenlighting Fanboy and Chumchum over Adventure Time when ATs pitch was amateur AF and looked like it was drawn by a 9 year old.

AT became a huge hit while FB&CC was seen as garbage at the time, but when you look at the pitches that were presented there's no fucking way anyone would have honestly chosen AT over FB&CC. It's a combination of ignorance and hindsight is golden.

When you don't hear any voices, have a script, or a storyboard to go by, both of their texts are pretty standard fare, "This character does this. That is what makes him so special! He loves doing this, they have this dynamic!". It's not like the famous Spongebob pitch where he got a fish tank and made a diorama out of the trio's neighborhood.

It's really curious to remember a time when Adventure Time was originally very un-pretentious and straight forward. Being based on Dungeons and Dragons and light hearted adventure. There's even a beholder in the OP image.

At first it just felt like silly fun simple show with a heart of magic and childhood wonder, just a boy and his magic dog messing around and silly bizarre stuff. Then they felt the need to make it more "mature" and "deep" with a ton of boring angsty melodrama that ironically made it more bland and shallow in my opinion. No more adventures or times to be had with Finn and Jake, just cringe writers wanking over how epically deep and subversive they are.
