Hi Nick Lowe, I know you posted this.
>Take note, superhero fashionistas: Spider-Woman's spinning her hippest look ever.
>After nearly 40 years of the same red-and-yellow curve-hugging tights, Marvel Comics superheroine Jessica Drew is getting a modern makeover. A new costume designed by artist Kris Anka can be seen beginning today when Spider-Woman debuts as a playable character in the Spider-Man Unlimited mobile game, and the fresh threads will be seen on comic-book pages in March when the character begins a new direction in her life in the recently launched Spider-Woman solo series.
>"As much as I'm a fan of spandex and it has its time and place, I felt Jess as a character could move away from that for a good long while," says Spider-Woman editor Nick Lowe.
>"Spider-Man isn't really a detective -- he swings around looking for trouble, whereas Jess needs to go and figure stuff out and dig things up, and you can't really do that head to toe in spandex very well," said Lowe. "To operate on the level she wants to, she needs something that can pass for semi-normal and she can turn it on to crazy if she needs to."
right, it’s not like there’s an incredibly famous superhero detective who wears his underwear and dresses like a bat or anything

The only exposed skin in the costume is her lower face. That is an absurd claim it was for sexual reasons instead of just making new outfits.

Redpill me on spiderwoman
From little i know of her, i honestly find her a bit boring. It doesn't even have the hook Supergirl and Batgirl have of being related to a more interesting character.
So what's she good for? She has good stories or is she just for jerking off to her ass?

It was never about the costume itself. It was about the Milo Manara art with the butt-up pose that got the controversy.
So Marvel had to temporarily get rid of it to cool down the anger.

Squat the name because a children's show was going to have a "Spider-Woman" character. She had a hastily made up backstory of being a New Man (animals turned into people/furries) which might have been copied from plans for Wolverine, but was quickly changed to a modified human. Her original comic run managed to run 50 issues, but despite 4 of the writers being very famous didn't have much impact and was probably carried by the Spider- in the name. She shifted heavily between writers in personality, tone, and how much you lean into having Claremont's pet characters show up. After being depowered, she appeared sometimes in Claremont-written books. She got repowered again in a Spider-Man annual story written by Gruenwald that I think he died before it was actually published, but was generally ignored. Her big reappearance in the 2000s New Avengers was because Brian Bendis had a crush on her when he was young, but was actually a Skrull posing as her for years of real-time comics (he also wrote another story that changed her backstory yet again). Afterwards she just hung around the Avengers by default. Mostly viewed as a supporting cast member to Carol Danvers because they are friends.
>>
>>151062042
>>151062230
Oh yeah, I forgot something interesting. Her original ends with her dying because Morgan le Fay attacked her physical body in the present with magic while her soul was in the past opposing her alleged archenemy. A spell is placed on people to forget her so they won't feel sad about her death. Of course, it is undone in Avengers not much later.

Adding to what the other guy said, in those days they figured it would be better to divorce her from Spider-Man and make her completely unrelated so it doesn't feel like she is just tacked on shit like most spider characters these days. Same thing for the next Spider-Woman, Julia, and neither of them really took off all that much. I don't think people particularly dislike either character but they just don't know what to do with them.

It's more like Batwoman or Huntress being kind of on the fringe rather than Supergirl or Batgirl
>>
>>151061114
i mean the costume itself was also made into underoos for little girls back in the 70's.
Plus there's a feminist angle in that it was designed by a woman, and you can tell in that it eschews some more obvious sexy elements a man would put in(showing bust or a lot of skin) in favor of shapes that emphasize the curves

What the fuck does this even mean? She's a detective trying to keep a low profile. So she wears bright colors and a non skin tight costume she can't just wear clothes over. What does she turn on "crazy" for as a detective? To fight? So in the middle of a fight she puts on her costume? Or right before she thinks she needs to fight? Why are all these modern editors so bad at logic and shit like this? They put so much energy into this, and come up with ideas that feel incomplete.

because fuck the "purpose" of the image. It's the same image, now you want to bitch context makes drawing the same thing different. If It was Jessica in the pic on the right instead of Spidey, you would still be bitching because its "sexualizing" her. "Why does her ass have to be on display like that?" Your own previous question proves it. You asked for the same shot, not the same "purpose"
Because you faggots do with EVERY pic of a female superhero, no matter what she's doing. If the costume is just too revealing, if the boob physics is wrong, whatever excuse you can come up with. who are you kidding?
>>
Spider-Woman has a weird smell!
>>
>>151063361
NTA.
Your perception of what you find sexually arousing affects how you perceive things around you. That's just reality. You look at both of those photos, with similar pses, and acribe different context to them more because of your sexual preferences and personal takes on the world, and not because for a lack of or a great deal of, context clues. If you think the Spiderwoman drawing is more provocative it is because a man drew it trying to hit at the same preconceptions and reality views you already have in your head. Ironically, a woman (not a feminist or someone with a political agenda) could admit that both poses could be construed as both sexy, and also understandable given the nature of both heros and what they are trying to convey (ie the movement of a spider/extreme flexibility and athleticism). Something is allowed to be sexy and powerful. Those are literally the ideals art have used for thousands of years. You don't think Spiderman flexing like he is outright sexy, more because of your sexual orientation, and more than likely, your fear that expressing that would make people question that sexual orientation.

I like how he mentions the Marvel Swimsuit special in the argument because the Jessica cover was NOT a swimsuit special, it was her regular book, so by his own argument, it cannot be meant for titillation, right?

The problem here is that people want to punish for thought crime. This is pic of two characters in the same pose. Most likely Jessica was drawn for titillation, but you honestly have no clue why Spidey was drawn and the artist could very well have been drawing it for the same reason because ITS THE SAME POSE. He just put some other shit in there to smuggle the fanservice out. You mean to tell me, if the put a tied up crook in the Jesscia cover people wouldn't complain anyway?

People complain about female characters no matter how much action is in the shot because the bottom line is they want to complain about female characters.
>>
>>151063652
Have you looked at Jess's face? Sex appeal isn't really the goal with such a face.
>>
>>151062092

>>

>The problem here is that people want to punish for thought crime. This is pic of two characters in the same pose. Exactly. The assumption that a pose or drawing is sexy because it's a woman and not a man is actually incredibly sexist, which is ironic. Some great sculptors of the past used men as their focal point, and then you find out those sculptors are gay. Does that take away from their art? Can you not look at their sculptures and think "These are amazing. These are beautiful." and not be gay? They just add some meta context. These works are amazing. The artist truly captured their form. They also were sexually attracted to these forms and because of that the forms have an energy and vibrance that he was able to tap into. Same with Spiderwoman.

I agree with your bottom line and mine is this; it's ok for male or female characters to be drawn sexy and cool. They're fucking heros. They are idealized beings. They're exceptional. It makes more sense to make them attractive and dynamic than ugly and dynamic. You're more likely to look at something styled sexy and with energy than something drab. This currrent war against "sexy" by claiming "everything is sexy" is brain rot. Everything is not sexy, and if it was then it would be all wrong by some people's comments.
>>
>>151061114
Money. No matter how much you try to "modernize" or update for a modern audience.

The Same Old shit sells.

Nobody gives a fuck about the psychological elements of blah blah blah batman villain. They want Batman punching the Joker after he robbed a bank.

Nobody cares about feminism or whatever pet issue. They want their capefu in skin tight costumes.

Money ALWAYS wins.
>>
>>151063779
His faces have always been kind of weird but now that he's old and not as good it's hard to defend
>>
>>151063773
>Why do you faggots have to be so two-faced about this? If you said "Fuck these feminists. I can stare at sexy drawings if I want to", I literally wouldn't give a fuck. You're trying to justify how "totally unsexy" the sexy drawings are, and for what?! What's next? Are you going to pretend Frank Cho doesn't make softcore porn for his covers? Just be honest with yourselves.
I'm not being two faced. I'm pointing out that something being drawn in a "sexy" way is 1) subjective to who is seeing it 2) doesn't take away from it conveying other meaning such as being "spider like" or alluding to "spiderman" 3) is not a sin or excuse to diminish the art style or drawing. You know who those artists are but many people don't. If those people so these drawings of Spider-Woman and Spider-Man they wouldn't assume one drawing is more soft core porn than another. Your meta knowledge is again affecting your perception and reality. It is not THE reality. Just your opinion. That's fine to have but the issue with current era is that social media has made people think their personal opinions of things can or are subjective facts if enough people bleat the same thing. There is no point where that happens. If you don't find Spiderman posed like that sexually arousing that doesn't mean it isn't sexually arousing to someone else. Likewise, just because you find Spiderwoman's exact same pose more suggestive doesn't mean other people feel it is.

He asked for instances where spidey was drawn the same way, got them, and then started goal moving, saying it's the context that matters and the amount of detail and if mercury was in retrograde when it was drawn. because originally the cover was controversial because they said it was sexualizing Spidergirl until people pointed out other characters have been in the same pose.

so now, it's INTERPRETATIVE because you CAN'T know what the intentions are behind all the other drawings, and you made it clear that we can't have "Holy imagined scenarios, Batman."

so either we're imagining what the reasoning is behind all the pictures are we aren't. if we aren't, then it's just the art which is characters with their asses in the air which people WILL find titillating on BOTH. Just because YOU DON'T doesn't mean shit.

If its' assuming what the purpose is behind the pics then YES we can suggest all the pics of male heroes with the spandex tightly caressing the asschecks and muscles were drawn for as much titillation as the female pics. Considering how many gay men and women draw and read these comics, it's stupid to suggest otherwise.

if , in fact your are just suggesting that this cover need to be duplicated identically with a different head for no reason at all, then you're either full of shit and ran out of real arguments or you're mental.

>I'm never going to feel bad about it- ever
What have I said that would make you believe I care?
>I'm far more likely to buy a comic with a ton of tits and ass in it
Yeah, that's kinda why they do it.
>>151067588
>then how your argument will change very five minutes
It's been the same the entire time, but OK.
>because originally the cover was controversial because they said it was sexualizing Spidergirl
It just blatantly is. There's nothing wrong with that, but it is. When Spider-Man is drawn in the same exact pose, it doesn't look like a naked pornstar, because more comic artists aren't out to sexualize Spider-Man.
>you CAN'T know what the intentions are behind all the other drawings
Literally just look up "Milo Manara art" on Google Images and stop being dense.
>people WILL find titillating on BOTH. Just because YOU DON'T doesn't mean shit
One looks functionally naked. I don't know how I can make it clearer.
>all the pics of male heroes with the spandex tightly caressing the asschecks and muscles were drawn for as much titillation as the female pics
Female characters objectively get sexualized more, and you'd have to literally never have read a comic ever not to see that.

The closest thing Jess has to good comics are her Pre-2000s stuff, technically Secret Invasion, and the 2016 pregnancy run. She's genuinely not a very good character and the writers don't seem to know how to remedy that.

Jessica exists to be a fanservice character. No amount of grrl power writing will ever change that.
>>
>>151062230
>She had a hastily made up backstory of being a New Man (animals turned into people/furries) which might have been copied from plans for Wolverine, but was quickly changed to a modified human.
With Wolverine, it was an idea Claremont had that he quickly dropped after barely beginning to hint at it. In both cases, people within Marvel decided that making these characters hyper-evolved animals instead of people would hurt their appeal to readers.

>Her original comic run managed to run 50 issues, but despite 4 of the writers being very famous didn't have much impact and was probably carried by the Spider- in the name.
Judging by the covers, she seems to get tied up a lot compared with other heroines of the era, which maybe had something to do with her book outlasting all the other late Bronze Age Marvel heroine books. Despite her name, she had nothing at all to do with Spider-Man.
>>
>>151062339
>Same thing for the next Spider-Woman, Julia, and neither of them really took off all that much.
Julia got a big introduction in the first Secret Wars, but 1980s Marvel didn't know what to do with her afterwards, she barely escaped getting sucked into the X-books as the one actual unironic good person on the Freedom Force team. She didn't really take off until the 90s, when she joined the West Coast Avengers, and quickly became one of the most popular members of the group. The Avengers getting cut down to one title for Heroes Reborn/Heroes Return, and John Byrne creating a new teenage Spider-Woman, then Bendis bringing Jessica back all contributed to relegating Julia to limbo and nobody who started reading comics after the mid 90s even really remembers her much from anything before she got turned into the new Madame Web.

>It's the same image
Nah, Spiderman's wedgie doesn't even go that far in compared to Spiderwoman. Spiderwoman is also wearing a single tone suit and just crawling around, spreading her buns. Spiderman is in an action pose, capturing criminals and his suit has a lot more detail breaking up his physical form. Which isnt exaggerated that much in the picture, whereas Spiderwoman barely has a waist. The perspective for Spiderwoman highlights her big dumper and its spread, Spiderman's perspective emphasizes his action pose. What's Spiderwoman's action, boofing? A design can be sexy without being this poorly realized and rendered. This was just some horny guy slapping down a check spread that could've come from any character because its characteristic of like none of them.

Right yeah of course, except not everybody is wearing the skin tight attire youre imagining at those events. And at those events they're real people going to do something. In a comic book, they're an intentional design posed for specific actions in specific frames. I would wear a tight dress to the club, I wouldn't wear a tight dress everyday of my life. I would wear yoga pants at the gym, I'm not going to wear them while landscaping. Spiderwoman's design and pose are intentional and the intention is sexualization at the cost of dignity. It fucking sucks. Its silly even if its hot to be like "oh wow spread asshole", ultimately its just not a dignified or empowering stance for a hero. Captain America has first rate cum gutters, but we dont make a meal out of his abs every page.

Its a ridiculous drawing of a ridiculous pose designed entirely to be erotic at the cost of dignity. Unlike how for example I'm going to wear a morticia adams dress tonight on a temporary basis because its hot despite being hard to walk in; comic book art is intentional and aims for iconic permanent status. Its not a real person dressing up for a day. Its a crank off fantasy.

Its a different pose, with different angles and while for Spiderman it's an action pose capturing bad guys; for Spiderwoman she's just stuffing her hole with spandex because the artist thought it was hot. Is Doctor Octopus drawn the way he is because the artist found it erotic? Doubtful. Spiderwoman? 100% obviously and you'd be dumb to say otherwise. vacuum sealed bodysuits are the norm for superheroes. and since most of them have perfect bodies, this often includes a nice butt. the difference is in the framing. even from the thumbnail alone, you can see Jessica's butt clear as day, because that's what the artist wants you to see. this drawing is focused on her butt. same pose, different framing.

You've never lifted in your life. You are a jealous fatty. Quit putting these these strong, confident, empowered, sexy backless leotard wearing women down because they look good and you don't.
>>
>>151077332
>Overly sexualized art with nothing else to it isnt our cup of tea, ok?
Hell, that shit IS my cup of tea. But at least I can acknowledge that superheroines are usually just eye candy. Malding capegooners need to feel like they're being attacked for being horny.
>>
>>151077293
>because they're the one that had the cover pulled and its not the first time.
That'd be editorial and because they dont want to lose sales lol

You cant keep getting pissy that other people dont share your aesthetic tastes. You think I liked modern country? Absolutely fucking not, I'm with Kris Kristofferson. Am I screaming at everyone listening to Luke Combs that they're trying to erase Johnny Cash? No. And I'm certainly not telling people that David Allan Coe was some hard hitting authentic songwriter just because they were listening to Jellyroll.

>>151077313
I have an asshole, maybe I should spread it for you sometime. Until then stop talking about my asshole! Its *my* asshole! You dont belong there!
>>
>>151077332
It doesn't have to be your cup of tea, but you decided it should be ANYONE's cup of tea and had to have it cancelled like you assholes always do and THAT is the topic at hand.

and asshole way back AGAIN, I QUOTE
>Spidey's costume never clung to the inside of his asscheeks like a second skin, now did it?

which PEOPLE SHOWED AND THEN GOALPOST SHIFTING AGAIN

Don't rewrite the conversation it is all up there despite the jannies deleting posts.
and again, your the one that couldn't handle something that's not your cup of tea, you jealous fat fuck.

>That'd be editorial and because they dont want to lose sales lol
HOLY SHIT WHAT A DODGE.

editorial just did that for NO REASON? They hired a guy then pulled his covers just because the moon was full?

>You cant keep getting pissy that other people dont share your aesthetic tastes.

No I get pissy when they get shit removed because they don't share my tastes instead of just ignoring shit they don't like like an adult.

>I have an asshole, maybe I should spread it for you sometime. Until then stop talking about my asshole! Its *my* asshole! You dont belong there!

oh nevermind, you're not an adult
>>
>>151077356
>Why do you keep saying "sexualized" like it is bad?
Omg, you baby. It isnt. Im sexualized right now. Im a person though, I'm not art. Art is made with permanence and intentionality. I'm not, I'm hot one day and a slob the next. This is how people work.

>You've never lifted in your life.
I lost 150lbs primarily through weight lifting and calisthenics.

I assumed you were just naming popular culture exercises that show butts, probably things you jerked off to.
>>
>>151077380

No, I just held a common opinion that was acted upon by a corporation.

>editorial just did that for NO REASON

>>151077380
My original point was that it looked like she literally wasn't wearing anything at all. The reason that image in particular looked so odd was because it was so detailed. Pictures of Spidey do often look like his suit is pressed against his body, but they're never detailed enough that he literally just looks like a realistic naked man arching his ass up in the air. No anon has supplied me with a picture of Peter that looked like that. Show me a picture of Spidey that looks like a nude guy in bodypaint, and I'll shut up for good.

I always thought her original series actually started out pretty interesting. She was an experiment by the High Evolutionary to save her life from radiation poisoning, got these weird powers, was exploited by Hydra and suddenly had to integrate with the normal world that she had no experience with. Also she used to radiate disruptive pheromones which caused most folks to take an immediate disdain for her which made her even more of a social alien.

All that got dropped of course and now she's pretty interchangeable with any other modern femme except that she has (?) a kid.

>>151078513
Like a third of Marvel's heroes are already distanced from human society and struggle to exist.

Shaming women for wearing sexy clothes is not feminism. Telling women what they can and cannot wear IS NOT freedom. A woman's choice to wear something sexy IS FREEDOM!

Yeah, I'm not stupid.
You're all cowards who are too insecure to just accept that you like porn drawings. You also lack any actual opinions, so you just regress back to the basic act of being contrary to the "dumb feminazi opinion". But the "dumb feminazi opinion" is that an artist decided to draw a female character's ass in the hottest, most impractical way he could think of, and that made some irrational people (not me) kind of mad.
Your opinions on the art are fine. You simply deserve to die for being snakes who can't man up and say what they mean. I don't respect you.

at it's core the argument he's making is that he inherently sees women as sex objects rather than people. Them simply existing is sexual in his eyes, which is why he demands all women be intentionally and deliberately de-sexed as possible; to remove the inherent sexuality he projects onto their existence.
