Honestly the ending of that As Told By Ginger episode where Carl's teacher dies is pretty gut wrenching. You're watching a sort of mid middle school drama comedy for kids and then BAM, death.

I'm honestly really proud of Don Rosa for depicting this in the comic. He was curating all the events portrayed in the Carl Barks comics, necessarily so since plenty contradict each other (Scrooge's wealth being dependent on a magic hourglass doesn't mesh well with other stories) so it would have been easy to ignore that, but I liked that he chose to include something that was just a short mention to justify a silly zombie story into a major character turn for Scrooge.

A shame that this volume is now missing this story.

They're pretty similar in terms of a quality drop honestly, they're just terrible in a different way. Spongebob doesn't rely on celebrity guests so much as the writing just craters and it goes from a show that can consistently make you laugh to one that feels incredibly boring.

Disney has never cared about Duck comics because they fundamentally don't understand Europe. That's why they invested in a $4bn theme park in France and insisted all meetings, including with the French government, be in English.
That being said, the writer, Don Rosa, is an American.
>>
>>151096357
me on the right
>>
>>151094947
>Is it because they're written by Europeans?
No, Barks and Rosa are both American and his stories were originally published by American company Western Publishing, with direct involvement from Disney. They just happened to get big in Europe. These comics were written and published in the late 1940s, so Disney wasn't interested in sanitizing everything other than Mickey himself, sometimes. They were only a few years removed from Donald starring in wartime propaganda cartoons. Scrooge was originally developed as more amoral and obviously greedy, he's called Scrooge for fuck sake! As in Ebenezer Scrooge, and they even did an adaption of A Christmas Carol with him. It was only the two DuckTales cartoons that sanitized him.

90's nostalgiafags exaggerate how scary courage really was, you often see moments from it posted in "scariest moments in kids shows videos" along with other stuff, and none of the shit in those kinds of videos is scary to adults, only to kids, like do you seriously think any grown ass man would be scared of "I'm not Tommy" from Rugrats?
>>
>>151097143
>while /a/ was (rightfully) laughing at us for thinking it was such a big deal.

why do they take real life issues that are worthy of genuine emotion and describe it in the most retarded ways possible, but when they see an edgy newgrounds parody or a lost pilot of a kids show, they suddenly act like they saw their entire family getting gutted like a fish?
>>
>>151097697
How
>>
>>151097729
I've wondered that for a while now. I see these people on Twitter making a huge deal about an artist drawing lewds of an anime character who is canonically 16 and throwing a hissyfit, but then excusing a member of their community actually sexually assaulting a child. It feels it has to be something "real" as in an actual psychosis of some kind.
>>
>>151097753
this sounds like a form of mass hysteria that was left unchecked for too long
>>
>>151097729
Because those are different people serving very different genres with different audiences.
True Crime is really just edgy gossip aimed at women who want titillation without the feeling of real danger.
Lost media is detective stories for cartoon nerds, so they have to sell you on the mystery and importance of the topic to make it appear meaningful.
The overlap of these being ghost hunters, having to sell you on the mystery of actual or alleged tragedy to distract from how much absolutely nothing scary is happening on screen.
>>

It's because of this. IIRC some rando was so hyperfixated on this show they wanted to fill out the TV Tropes pages for it, including the Nightmare Fuel page. Given that this is a show for goddamn little kids, you don't HAVE a lot of material to go off of for a page like that, so the rando decided that "close up character introduction with slightly ominous lighting" was not only a good example of something that can give you fucking nightmares, but also that it was worthy of being the first thing you SEE on the page.

This was so bad that users and moderators UNANIMOUSLY agreed that the image be removed due to not being scary in the slightest even within context.

And then they removed the Nightmare Fuel page for the show entirely while keeping the HoYay page.

Bluey adults are so weird, because they pretend they're the only toddler show that makes content to entertain adults while the ankle biters are watching the cartoon characters do cartoon things.
Like, Sesame Street does, did, and still does the things Bluey adults laud the show for, despite Seasme Street existing before any of the Bluey crew was born.
>>
>>151106471
The weirdest part about Bluey adults is the hyperfixation they have on the parents being supportive, supporting their kids and in a healthy relationship. Its like they're trying to recreate the parents they always wanted/never had through Chili and Bandit.

Honestly most of the shit you cartoon people bitch about.

You're all histrionic about the tiniest little nothing things in shows not even made for you. And you're allergic to maturity

And the ones that aren't usually have a huge bleeding gash on your shoulder about "cultural attitudes" towards animation as a "medium."

Both types need to learn that what they want is never ever going to happen. There will be no respect for any of your viewing habits.

Yeah he isnt satan bad but he also isn’t great to be sure.like on one hand you’d think the general reaction to him being that strong would make people take a step back and realize that meant the writers hit the nail on the head of with writing him your standard meathead jock that’s emotionally constipated. On the other hand the fact he didn’t try to like, shame or even sue the people that made the crazy chicken movie and merch based on slandering a literal child is strange. Even if you did think CL was a schizo that’s easy money.
That said the deleted scenes where he was more active in trying to assure CL he’ll always love him would’ve helped the movie a LOT. Plus the scenes he has in the original henny penny cut were more flattering.

Abby best girl though. She and the porcupine broke their backs carrying this movies.

Literally every single thing that’s popular with kids right now is some flavor of lite-horror. The bad guy rebuilt her as a cyborg afterward. Although she was un-cyborged by the end.

I had this moment just yesterday, a modern spongebob clip came up https://youtu.be/8sfEYnNIgIQ?si=2_3rb0szcAQZmvb4 and I found it creepy as shit how the cast mentally degrades into feral animals

i always hated this image because it's always used by retards who don't consider narrative and instead only look at scenes based on what is and isn't allowed on tv and what policy boundaries are being pushed, but then i saw >>151114851 and realized that ones who that image is targeting are also people who do the same shit, but are on the other side of the opinion.

It was for preteens and teens. CN was on their teenage audience phase

Hmmm. Could the turn to horror/horror-like things be because of how lame mainstream corporate shows are? Many kids like to peer into the world of the teenager and sneak looks at PG-13/R movies, so I assume this is no different. Kids just seeking things that have more of an edge. Though I would argue the things with an edge nowadays are softer than the edgy things of the past.

She was revived and turned into a host for a super-computer made of different personalities.
To be honest, the scene was just shock-value since it had no effect in the story of the characters or some internalization. It got brushed-off.

Yeah. Everyone wants to be the Robin to someone's Batman, they never consider that maybe their calling is to be the Batman to someone's Robin.

That’s because no one in the show gave a shit about Marcy even before she got stabbed (Anne doesn’t count)

I'm pretty sure that even I had a bad feeling in the back of my head when I watched that, and I was still just a kid.

Anyone remember when the MAD show on Cartoon Network parodied Korra? "The Legend of Dora", starring Avatar Dora the Explorer, interrupted at the end by the Incredible Hulk, who was mad all episode about not getting more screentime in The Avengers. I watched that show a lot at the time, I think a big part of the draw was the novelty of seeing IPs referenced on a channel they "shouldn't" be.

Anytime the Lich showed up. Dude gets so over hyped by the internet you'd think he killed someone.
>Lich is mentioned
>Finn and Jake get serious
>Lich shows up
>Lich makes vague promise of death
>Lich gets beaten up
>Lich runs away
Repeat ad fucking nauseam. Even at his strongest he still jobbed to Hell and back. Finn's dad did more permanent damage to Finn than the Lich. Lich did more damage to fake Finn than real Finn. His entire existence is relegated to a spin off where he's just removed as an entity.

Death/goodbye scenes always hit me harder the older I get. I guess it's because the reality of death is a lot more clear to me
