Now that the dust has settled, what did we think of the ending of Legend of Korra? Also apparently the new series already has two seasons greenlit
>>151099487The exact moment when western animation jumped the shark
>>151099487If you defend this, you are part of the problem.
>>151099508It was a brilliant maneuver by the hackiest of frauds - they retroactively justified their romantic plot tumor by making the two girls who constantly cucked each other into each other. I can't even be mad at it I know Rebecca Sugar's lockerroom must have been hell the day after. Beaten to the punch by Nick.
>>151099487Reminder that this is the true and only legacy of Korra, an era of “progressive” cartoons that basically ceased to exist overnight once Trump got re-elected in 2024.
>>151099487LoK is not one of those shows that has well-written, fun dynamics between female characters enough so that Id feel endeared shipping them. It’s HACK bullshit and it’s the same as all these other forced lesbian shows. I’m going to defend Steven Universe of all things: At least they make it clear, they make them interesting relationship dynamics and there’s a lot of different ones so you can pick your favorite girl or favorite ship that’s more to your liking.
I wish cartoons were for little kids like in the old days.
>>151099487I might have liked it more if they bothered to make Asami more of a character. After Season 2, she had no reason to be involved in the plot (and plenty of reasons NOT to be. Apparently her company runs just fine without her.)Her romance with korra...whatever we saw of it felt like they did nothing to earn it, but a lot of that had more to do with the above than any issue with Korra. You can tell the writers kind of ran out of ideas with Asami, as she kind of just has a habit of standing in the background a lot.Great character design, though. Even AI can't fuck it up.
>>151099780In hindsight, Asami killed LoK
>>151099508>>151099531>>151099540>>151099598>>151099647All the children are buzzed up on sugar and late night posting. no, not me, I'm just a regular insomniac.
>>151099812She did absolutely nothing wrong she supported her friends and gave them rides everywhere, sure the war profiteering thing was a bit sketchy but if the writers aren't going to scrutinize that plot point I won't
>>151099820Korra's kiss probably tastes like seal blubber
>>151099487sucked ass. they knew it was so ass they threw in lesbians to get praise from several now dead outlets. desu once I saw the giant robot I just couldn't take the series seriously anymore. so much wasted potential.
>>151102452That was pretty close to the end. The shit was smelling quite strongly by the end of S1.
First time I watched I got so confused by it. it honestly made no sense in the narrative, why even do such a thing, it was like being punched in the face and all you are seeing are stars and confusion.I like the first season and third season a lot of this show, it has good moments, it has good things to offer. really, specially the villains. What they did to the world building and the legacy of Avatar as a franchise as a whole is very questionable, depends where do you stand. Defending this is absolutely impossible, it just nonsense fulled by a total lack of care and being extremely extremely selfish.Something I notice, and you can notice it too if you pay attention, is when people say they hate work in media or whatever tha means, they never trully say they hate seeing gay people together, or that is gross or a sin, they say it's forced and weird and on your face to the point of being distracting, and I agree, when it's well done I barely notice and even like it, like on homestuck or anything back in the 2000's. But somehow the culture devolved so bad that it becomes more about the statement and less the narrative and in my opnion the end of Korra is shining example of that, how they true alway the entire gay ass romance subplot and all the time we wasted on that for a ending gay scene they never even bothered to develop that well that just made a lot of their audience confused or angry. And you can directly blame this, and the rotting infestation of stupidity that brought progressive ideologies to their knee to the point people became regressive as means to fight the system to white middle class women age 15 to 25 on tumblr from 2010 to 2015. If we ever go back to bashing and raping gays on the streets you know who to blame.
>>151099487I dropped it after 3 episodes. This series is on a short list of shows that just had no idea how to follow up on their previous incarnation and didn't get what the magic was. Last Air Bender had parables and points to make, but it wrapped them in endearing characters and showed how those "life lessons" played out. How they affected people, even "bad" people. Korra is one of many modern shows that talks down to its audience not to them. It's main character is two faced and without irony. I'm sure someone thought this made her come off as earnest, self-assured and righteous. Those traits sound better than they really come off as.
>>151099487Bad then, worse now.
I enjoyed it because Korra ending up with Asami was yet another kick in the face from Bryke to Zutarans who were all shipping Korra x Mako.
>>151104000That doesn't make random dykes a good end. Cartoons died when they focused om shippers and listening to online retards.
>>151099487It was shit
>>151099487Last second bid at immortality because they knew that the show was otherwise doomed to fade into irrelevance as a weak sequel.
>>151104000Good point, and nice trips
What confuses a lot of people is the end of the series is the start of their, romance which is different from the usual "I've loved you since we met" media couple. The argument that there nothing between them in the first two seasons is right, there wasn't. Nothing started until season 3. Parts could have been done better, but that's a part of every show. The spent several episodes in season three depending on each other and building mutual respect and I think Asami was the first to see Korra as more than a friend. Asami's reaction to the Red Lotus kidnapping Korra and Korra being poisoned was fairly intense. Korra was occupied with recovery for the first half of season four and starting having feelings the more time she spent around Asami. I think it clicked when she came up with the idea to kidnap Batar jr. The spirit world trip was their first date and they were just trying the relationship out. I think too many people jump on the trope that if characters like each other, they liked each other from the first episode they met and blah blah blah. That isn't the case here. The show is over so we can assume a happily ever after, but the end of the show was just the start of the relationship.
>>151099487the dust was settled even before the final episode, by this point it's 6 feet under. Korra lost it's audience after season 2.
>>151106408>unlikeable MC>shitty romance subplot>fake sport>asspull air bending>shitty non-conclusionHow do people even say they like S1 to begin with. Back in the day I just thought "neat, more cool bending stuff" so I kept watching before S2 forced me ot turn on my brain, but rewatching it was torturous.
Every member of Korra's team Avatar is shit, even the animal spirit guide and mascot are shit. The show would have been better with just Korra, that includes her weak as fuck "romance" with an arms dealer making money off of the wars Korra starts.
>>151099487Actually surprised Bryke/Nick didn't do anything for the 10th anniversary of the ending, you'd think they would've milked Korrasami with merch or something.
>>151106657The biggest issue was Korra's team never had a real call to adventure like Aang's had so they just came off as a bumbly mess. I'd argue you have the same issue with the original cast if you had the same start. >>151106563I wager the hype is what people were stuck on, that this is post TLA world and we got to see how much changed, after the novelty wears off however, it starts to become clear how poorly this whole thing was put together. That's just a guess however, I was not introduced to either show until a good decade after Korra ended.
>>151106698They are not stupid, every attempt to revive series has been met with very mediocre response. They can't afford to try forcing fan fare that isn't their, at some point it would be like the Emperor's new clothes and everyone would start questioning if the brand ever was popular or if it was all just forced nonsense.
Inferior lesbian ship
>>151106408>Korra lost it's audience after season 2.Korra was moved from Saturday mornings to Friday night with little to no advertisement. It went to on-line viewing after that. https://www.cbr.com/nickelodeon-sabotaged-legend-of-korra/
It feels like the only reason why they brought Asami along was for shipping drama. Besides that and her dad, I can't think of anything else she added to the show.
>>151107443Creates the hummingbird mechs to get the team inside the big mech. Breaks Korra & herself out of the Earth Queen's airship. Rescues everyone from the crash of said airship. Helps take down the Red Lotus goon squad. Saves Korra from the Red Lotus.
>>151099487Can't even muster up the energy to pretend to be angry about it. I marathoned it with my friends, so I was just so fucking glad that Korra was over, so I didn't even give a second thought to Korra and Asami holding hands. When my friends talked to me about it later, one of them brought up that it was "important" to have this kind of in-your-face depiction of a lesbian relationship in a children's cartoon. They didn't watch the show, but they tried to emphasize it was really "important" before asking my opinions on it. I gave it like two minutes of thought reflecting on the show to recall any form of romantic chemistry between Korra and Asami up to that point. Then I outright cackled and asked if they were being serious that the two were lesbians. And then they got really huffy when I cracked up at being told that Korra and Asami were indeed lesbians based on those five seconds of holding hands. So, yeah. I guess you could say I didn't think highly of the ending.
>>151106657>>151106772The big problem is that the whole group is founded on weak chain of wanting to bone. Bolin wants to bone Korra who wants to bone Mako who wants to bone Asami. That's the foundation of their group and there's a bit of extra glue from pro-bending. So then when pro-bending basically stops existing after season 1 and all the romance shit falls through after season 2, they have nothing holding them together besides a vague sense of loyalty towards Korra. Compare to the original team avatar.>Katara wants to go with Aang because she's idealistic and wants to help him save the world, plus he's her key to fulfilling her own personal dreams of becoming a fully fledged waterbender>Sokka goes with Katara because he feels responsible for her and also the journey gives him a chance to act on his feelings of being left behind by the other warriors>Toph joins the team because they're providing her a clear opportunity to escape from her controlling parents and make use of her skills, providing her direction without suffocating her>Zuko joins the team because he realizes it's the only way he can truly do the right thing and restore not only his own honor, but his nation's as well
This show fucking self-destructed when it decided to nuke its naturalistic asian world building for a western "le ancient evil vs le ancient good" format. Literally what the fuck were they thinking. It never recovered from this, and the characters were never good.
>>151104000>ZutaransYou're exactly the same kind of shipping obsessed retard, just in a didn't flavor than them.
>>151109055>different flavor
>>151104000Only latinas were brave enough to defend Makorra after the ending. American fangirls were too scared of being labeled as homophobic to point out the obvious. They let western animation to die
>>151099487I remember being kind of ahead of the curve on watching thisKorra had been pulled from airing so the last few episodes premiered on Nick's site>oh they gave the Korrasami shippers a little somethingI didn't know how downplayed that statement was until this place was fully engulfed in flames an hour later
>>151109055>last kick in the face >implying anyone was watching past S2
>>151110564Kek, exactly. that show was shit top to bottom. all the shippers were long gone except the crackship tumblrinas bryke were dumb enough to listen to when their zutard clone flopped along with the rest of the show.
>>151099487>the new series already has two seasons greenlitThey're just splitting up a single production run into fake seasons like streaming shows always do these days.
I only liked the season with Zaheer. Don't remember which it was. Been a long fucking time since I watched it.Also short hair korra is hottest korra.
>>151099487I made it to season 4 and just lost all interest by then. The Korra and Asami shipping came out of nowhere to me where they suddenly say Asami's writing romantic letters to Korra when there was never any intimate or personal interactions between the two before then. Korrasami didn't make me drop it though, I just got tired of the show. 3 seasons was fine enough, and I'd already been slowly losing interest by season 2. The show's just boring compared to Last Airbender and none of the characters are engaging.>>151110926Zaheer was season 3.
