Why isn't the Rainbow Brite film as fondly remembered as GI Joe, Transformers, and Chipmunks ?
>>
We are not faggots. Maybe you want the pedos of the board, but I don't think they care much about 80's cunny unless they are chimpmunks.

Rainbow Brite was too "girly" for boys. It doesn't help that there hasn't been any really good series since then, either.

this is an honest-to-gawd downgrade. this isn't an overreaction like black april in turtles, this is vile.

Rainbow Brite needs a comeback
>>
>>151109208
Rainbow Brite is for youngest Gen Xers. Elder Millennials don't remember Rainbow Brite, they remember the Care Bears which came out a year later.
>>
>>151109208
A lot of people assume it's only for little girls, like G1 MLP. Truth is, both of those were for everybody.

She is and isn't...it's one of these weird non-action toyetic cartoons that only has like 13 actual episodes, yet it got a lot of promotional material and a movie.

of the various "obviously for girls" 80s cartoons that popped up in this era, she's clearly to me the coolest and any cartoon with a ending credits song as good as "Rainbow Brite and me" probably helped her stick around in people's minds.

>>151109353
Also it only looked decent because of DiC’s PAC studio who handled the animation, even then Rainbow look weird with that head. Was she meant to be a sort of dwarf?
>>
>>151111626
>Was she meant to be a sort of dwarf?
Just how she was designed. I forget who the original designer was, but it seems pretty clear characters like Brian weren't designed by the same person.
>>
>>151109208
It was a girls film for girls and their parents or legal guardian to watch.
>>
>>151111463
She's got the face of woman in her 30s desperately trying to pretend she's still in her early 20s.

BullSHIT. Those ponies lived in an oasis in a damn hellscape. Everything there wanted to eat, destroy, or enslave them. After watching just 4 episodes, I was wondering why Megan wasn't bringing a rifle or revolver when the ponies brought her in to help.

Girls have less autism and more likely to to find s husband and social life. So they all just grew up and became normalfags more which is why boy cartoons have most of the autism
>>

I'm sure you could find the same scene without subs.
>>

Those are obviously not closed captions for the hearing impaired. They are subs for the attentionally impaired, and for the low audio quality bluray releases.

The Transformers and Chipmunks movies were exceptionally well made for their time. Transformers is one of the most badass movies ever loaded with great action sequences and The Chipmunks one has an amazing soundtrack and Disney level animation.
I've never head anyone talk about this one or the G.I. Joe movies before today.
>>
>>151109528
I like both. The 80s one has that weird ugly cute Cabbage Patch Kid look to it and the one at the right has that line width 2000s flash cartoons like WordGirl and Home Movies had and that's immediately charming to me.

I havent sat down and watched the gijoe movie since maybe the late 80s 90 at the latest.
That is so much awesome crammed into 3 minutes.
We had it so good.

For every girl that funds a husband a boy finds a wife. The rest fits.
>>
>>151109208
Girls grew out of it and are in the 40s now.
So it’s too late to reboot it in a way for nostalgic.
Don’t can only be reimagined for a new generation.
Also Rainbow clearly liked that human boy so there are no-LGBTQ undertones that that community can latch unto.

Also she’s a reminder that “rainbows” don’t belong to the queer community. They’re a natural phenomena from nature that inspires everyone.

What are you talking about? We co stantly got toys.
Mattel (1984–1987)
(1996–1997)
Toy Play (2003–2005)
Playmates (2009–2010)
Hallmark Toys (2015-2016)
With a tv show in 2014 and a comic in 2018-2019
And there are talks about a CGI show that was planned for 2024/2025.
>>
>>151116317
Wow rude
>>
>>151116317
Ok, you haven't seen the movie, got it.
>>
>>151109208
I saw it a bunch of times in cable when I was a kid but I can't remember a single thing about it (I think the boy had a cool robot horse?).
>>
>>151109208

The Dark Princess feels like she wandered in from a different franchise. She's a great villain but just seems completely out of place next to the Rainbow Brite characters, both in design and tone.
>>
>>151109208
Never saw the movie but the show had abnormally high-grade animation for the time.

>>151113474
Decided to give a watch a few years ago. The characters are annoying as hell but there's more fantasy shit going on than in a lot of boys shows. It might've actually held my attention back then.
>>
>>151118633
Plenty of Villains from '80 girls toons were. G1 Tirek fit more in DnD then G1 equine show. It's like putting Reika Kitami into the Litt'L Bits
>>
>>151118633
But that’s just how cartoon villains were in the 1980s.
Adventure Time tried to emulate this early in with the Lynch King.
>>
>>151109208
As a movie its more flash than substance. Like its fun to watch, but it relies heavily on the premise of either the sun or some mystical crystal star planet or whatever being in danger, and Rainbow spends the whole movie with a little shit "lets try to appeal to the boys" character with his robo-horse. The dynamic with Twink? Gone. Brian? Little shit gets a few scenes to remind you he's a character. Hell, they introduce Stormy as a new and interesting kid and then immediately sideline her. It doesn't help that the soundtrack doesn't hit as hard in pop culture because its all instrumental except "Brand New Day" and "Rainbow Brite and Me", which are both bangers if you're a fan, but its no "You've got the Touch" or Chipmunks licensing popular music.

There larger problem is there's just not a lot of Rainbow Brite content of any quality out there. Like you have "The Beginning of Rainbow Land", which is an awesome story about a girl coming to this world that is just wrecked and infested with monsters and traps and weird shit around every corner which she fights through and eventually defeats the evil robed power with her magic rainbow lasers. This was followed by "Peril in the Pits" which introduces Brian the earth boy to ground it all, but its straight back to Rainbow Land and adventure. Then you have "The Mighty Monstromurk Menace", which again has Rainbow fighting a giant gloom monster but also gave some spotlight to the other color kids, and its just peak Peter Cullen and Mona Marshall in the 80's, but which no one gives a shit about except animation/voice nerds. Anyway, its those 3 arcs, followed by the movie, which is then followed by a series of episodes of increasingly low quality trying to clumsily world build and act like maybe they could get enough episodes for syndication, and the whole thing was basically cancelled because it just started sucking so, so much.

So yes, its hardly brought up because there's barely anything to remember.

Tirak. Tirek was a creation of G4 because some idiot on the staff misremembered his name from the 80's. This was also a flub in Stranger Things. G1 viewers in the 80's knew his name properly. G4 newbies had never heard of him, or maybe saw him once but didn't know or remember his name.
>>
>>151109208
I think I remember a Stephen King story where an adult male character was sullenly forced to watch a few minutes of this because it was on the only channel that worked in his hotel room.

Looks low effort, they need to try again. Let Viz take a crack at it

I'd thought for ages that they were based on Margaret Keane's paintings, but looking it up apparently no they were based on sculptures made by a woman named G.G. Santiago, who apparently is a prolific creator of porcelain landfill fodder.
>>
>>151115427
Part of the problem is that 80s and 90s cartoon threads get yanked here. Blink and you miss them. Jaw dropping animation on the Joe film but it just can't pull off that epic feel of Transformers 86. Some great ideas that are poorly executed. Seems like an extended episode that plays it too safe and predictable. Of course that leads back to the suits caving to "concerned" parents and the ensuing aftermath.

Bratty teenager, perfect correction and breeding material. Imagine blending her evil nature with a new found maternal instinct after putting a few babies in her. I'm sure she'd love to corule as the Queen of Darkness while making the universe a fit kingdom for her children.
