The problem is that a vast majority of people are too "real" with their view of the world, so in contrast artists will seem mentally challenged. Then ones that do make it, like your George Lucas, may still get criticism but at least he got paid so the "realists" give him an excuse and think he's valid because his series is popular and lucrative. But art being a popularity contest is wrong if taken too far. I just think art is difficult because almost by nature, it is something that comes from within. But practically, it's outwards facing and comes with challenges like criticism, vying for popularity, following trends, staying consistent even if you want to create something different.

This was before any of that really kicked off, enthusiasm was high and discussion on anything that could be considered negative was minimal, positivity reigned. It was that Daisy thing and the perceived pandering to 4chan specifically was the topic of discussion. You can see it in the archive if you search around for it if you really want to read it, but IMO his reaction really doesn't match the level of criticism you would think warrant giving up, not unless he's thin-skinned or particularly sensitive anyways. That being said, I wish he'd just given up normally and buggered off to let people enjoy the comic without him circling around constantly reporting fan archives because he can't let things be.
