I feel like better way to do this version of Pentious's backstory would be giving more attention to the prostitute rather than Jack the RipperPent and her could be first shown as friends. Where she is someone who maybe has to do this job to support her child or something and finds solace with human Pent. Her one friend in poverty who is ambitious engineer who wants to get out of their awful life and maybe take her out of it through this as well.Where we can see a connection between them before the tragedy occurs. Where we can with maybe one or two scenes establish a certain bond between them. And when the night happens she screams for help. His help. And Pentious is too afraid to die and not have his ambitions fulfilled and acts like a coward. Hiding in his house and not going out or doing anything. Jack the Ripper is of little matter here, it could be anyone. But what is the focus here then is not Pent being some poor soul forced into this sin because Jack is someone "powerful and influential", no, it's Pentious who makes this decision to abandon her. Who is selfish and cowardly enough to let his friend die. Someone you find deplorable for his choice. And when he gets to making his ambition a reality it blows up in his face (possibly literally) as he is too weighted down by guilt to focus and his invention kills him.The key with this shift in focus is to NOT feel sorry for Pentious. My hard drive was a fucking disaster area by the time I was done. Even taking shortcuts to hit the deadline with something acceptable was exhausting physically and only an artist knows what 'acceptable quality' means in that kind of situation.The person I was doing it for was totally clueless about animation, the process, or art in general, barely contactable themselves, and was absolute zero help in terms of making time-saving decisions based on storyboards and rough cuts. Shit would take less time if you knew what the tip of the iceberg looked like to start with, (why parody of an existing work is easier). Think of it in terms of a two hour movie taking years to make.
I'm surprised no one ever talks about how Alastor in-universe in the first episode forgot about the reason why he even joined the Hotel in the first place and had to be reminded by Vaggie constantly. It just makes him look like a fucking idiot, especially with the leaks for episode 4 revealing that Rosie sent him there to begin with in exchange for freedom, which means he has no reason to forget about all that ALL IN ONE WEEK.

Good examples usually have multiple arcs developing concurrently, but these side plots aren't developing concurrently, just being introduced then frozen until they're main plots, but if they're going to do that, I'd argue the time spent introducing them could be spent further developing the current storyline with maybe hints of future developments. Knowing the Vees were going to be major players eventually anyway, their time could have been dedicated to the hotel and the conflict with Heaven. The way Hazbin does it, the show stops everything to have an entire episode dedicated to a new plot that won't get picked back up for another season, when they could just move that part of the new plot closer to the rest of it and have it flow better. Don't get me wrong, Stayed Gone, Gravity, and even Respectless are bangers, but they'd be best grouped in with a related storyline.
