Do you like the Blue Beetle legacy? Who is your favorite Blue Beetle?
>>
>>151118443
???
>>
>>151118397
They're all so different from each other and none of them feel like they're stepping on the others' toes.
>>
Who do they fight???
>>
>>151118479
plus Ted interacting with Jaime is usually pretty fun.
>>
>>151118397
Why did they need to kill Ted? Was it justifiable /co/?
>>
>>151118729
Dan Didio hates fun. That's literally it.
>>151118479
They have completed different cities, powers, designs, and Ted doesn't even really want the scarab. I usually hate when superheroes share mantles but they're perfect for it.

>I usually hate when superheroes share mantles
I'd wager what you actually hate is how often it's just "same superhero - even similar personality - but different backstory." Those are common enough, but usually don't coexist, and forcing them to can make it obvious that the successor isn't fully their own character.

Another good example of not doing it this way would be the two Mr. Terrifics - very different people, very different characters. Each can stand on their own, even if Holt is the more popular one now.

I think good legacies in Marvel basically don't exist. One of the problems is Marvel never really does sidekicks (or even just "inspired by" stuff, like Michael Holt was from Terry Sloane), and the mantles are much less flexible (Marvel powers and even super-tech feels like it's treated as something more innate, inherited, or otherwise decided by fate in Marvel than it does in DC). The closest they get is literal cloning. Usually of mutants. Sometimes of Spider-Man. And the clones are often antagonists.

It's quite uncreative on that side, IMO. I feel like a big reason legacies are often so frowned upon by some people is that Marvel is just shit at pulling them off.

Red Beetle from JSA
>>
>>151118397
Dan I'm neutral on, Ted Kord yes, Jaime initially but he lost his luster.
>>
>>151118488
Ted fought street crime like Dick Tracy, Ted is more of a superhero, Jaime fought magic and alien shit.
>>
>>151120863
>Jaime fought magic and alien shit
i've got bad news about superheroes, anon. this was happening all over the place even in the golden age.
>>
>>151119276
>same superhero - even similar personality - but different backstory
This is a little reductive. Sure you get the Robin legacies, or like, Danny Ketch, but you also get Wally West.
>>
>>151121532
The thing about Robins is the Robin with the closest personality to Bruce's is Jason, but Jason doesn't have the self-control or the intellect to wear the Batman mantle - and both Bruce and Jason know that. Dick doesn't really want it - Nightwing is who he is now. Damian probably does, and he's got the skills for it. Nobody cares about Tim Drake.

Also, Robin as an identity is its own thing. It's deeply tied in to Batman but it's not itself really a "Batman Legacy Hero" identity.

Barry/Wally is a bad example because it WAS successful until a clumsy, nostalgia-fueled abomination of a storyline that ruined the legacy character and took even more convoluted retcons to "fix." They had a good transition of the mantle squandered by incompetence after the fact - it's not the fault of the people who had done the transition in the first place.

Marvel simply refused to bother trying stuff like this for decades, leaving its heroes and backstories static or simply retconning the backstory of the same character (a static cast of civilian identities is one of the reasons the "sliding timeline" became necessary). There's a lot of history of sidekicks and new blood to pull from at DC, whereas Miles Morales was arguably one of the first serious "mainline hero proteges for a mantle" in Marvel... and they can't even really do that right because Peter's too busy from editorial ruining his life to be the mentor figure for Miles that he is supposed to be. Marvel doesn't have a good track record for stuff like this at all.

Holy shit. Schizophrenia is contagious.

Yes, but with hurting Ted kord.

When he was on the Teen Titans he was basically a substitute for Cyborg.

Some time back we figured out it was around the time Charlton characters became public domain. Then DC created diversity hire replacements.

But also, DilDio is a dipshit.
>>
>>151125382
I find it so weird Dan just gets to OA (or does he even? I think last we see him is when Aya finds out Razer is alive), the Starbreaker shit happens, and then he's just not seen or addressed ever again.

Also not sure if they explained why he was alive, trapped in space, and wielding a new scarab
>>
>>151125077
Interesting.
>>
>>151125077
I hate god damn dragon ball fanboys so god damn much. is really not enough for them to shill such a mid show just because it has big ass numbers when it comes to power scaling, despite they never even using those in the show itself. They literally suck the dick of the worse main character in the piece of trash BY FAR. The least charismatic and original and most frustrating and annoying.

Prince begeta would be such a better pick to stand in anything because his abrasive personality, even piccolo or yancha because they feel less mentally retarded. Why are you people like that anyway?
>>
>>151125382
That would be nice. I know Trujillo's book wasn't exactly beloved but I'm already getting tired of Ted and Jaime just standing in the background of JLU and would welcome a short arc where they actually get to do something. Same goes for Animal Man.
>>
>>151119276
The Ant-Men are the best Marvel legacy. Powers aside, I would never confuse Hank Pym with Scott Lang or Eric O'Grady, they all are different characters, each with their own strong personality.
>>
>>151118397
Do you think the DC exec would make another Blue Beetle legacy character?
>>
>>151118397
No

I read some of the Dan comics and they were just boring, and weirdly inconsistent even before DC bought him. Ted solo was a bit more interesting, but I figured he'd have a lot more gadgets and stuff like Batman to compensate for not having powers. He also worked better in groups than solo, because his humor is better someone around to interact with. Jaimie is like a weird teen boy combination of Green Lantern and Iron Man that just doesn't work.

Last I heard, Vegeta was basically becoming the hero in Super.
>>
>>151121945
Where did I mention Batman at all? Of course Robin is its own thing. Compare Dick Grayson Robin and Pre-Crisis Jason Todd, then Dick Grayson Robin and Tim Drake. Same superhero, similar personality, different backstory.
>>
>>151125382
I support this.

Jaime has gone from Spider-man to Tokusatsu/Power Rangers in his 2023 run.
>>
>>151132834
He always had a sort of Tokusatsu + Luchador inspiration. I remember it explicitly said by Cully Hamner, the original designer and artist for his series, when Jaime was first announced.

About the SpĂder-Man thing, outside of being young and not wealthy, I never saw much of a comparison.

As an anecdote, if I recall correctly, Jaime's introduction was announced with his design and notes about the suit's tools and shit, and some time later, Spidey's Iron Spider suit was announced with the legs on the back.
I remember people saying Spidey was ripping off the new Beetle, but of course, the timing was suspicious but probably insufficient for an actual rippoff. Civil War and Infinite Crisis (and so Jaime and Spidey's designs) were being worked on almost at the same time, so likely a coincidence.
>>
>>151130645
Yeah Jaimie has a cool design and that's about it.
>>
>>151132958
coincidences like this happen a lot with the big 2 because a lot of the same people have worked for both, or move back and forth. that said, ripoffs have ALSO happened a lot - Deadpool began as a ripoff of Deathstroke. TTGO has even made fun of Deadpool being the more popular of the two.

>>151130645
>>151132966
i think Jaime's actual problem is his own storylines are pretty weak and his ensemble kinda sucks. he's not really the one dragging it down, but he's also not quite compelling enough to elevate the rest of it himself (yet - this can absolutely be improved with a good run, especially one that has him grow up a bit). i'd say he's decidedly "mid" (of course, in the classical Ye Olde English definition before that just meant "bad" instead of "mediocre").

Ted's at his best with someone to bounce off of, so having them team up on occasion is beneficial to both (though moreso to Jaime). Ted as a jokester quasi-mentor figure to Jaime in the broader superhero world just makes sense to me.
