I wonder what it would be like if Neal Adams hadn’t left? Probably very different because he would have probably drawn what he felt like drawing while Anderson probably followed Claremont’s plot more.

I think it’s a good story and probably the only one where Claremont’s new, noble version of Magneto doesn’t piss me off; at least he still wants to conquer the world and subjugate humans.

But the impact has been bad because even more than Days of Future Past it created the idea that anti-mutant bigotry is the core of what the series is about, and in context it’s really the equivalent of a Very Special Episode of a sitcom, where they deal with the issue of bigotry before getting back to the business of fighting baddies and getting mind-controlled.

The version I read had six pages by Adams, and they looked very good, but very different from Anderson's.

it's pretty good, highest praise I'll give it is that the pastor villain is genuinely convincing, it fully commits to his view of innate corruption/sin and the duty of the faithful to destroy it, doesn't pull any punches.

>the only one where Claremont’s new, noble version of Magneto doesn’t piss me off
I don't know if I agree with you entirely but it's definitely better than claremont's first go at it. the bit with scott on the secret island fortress was very eye roll worthy.
>I CARED FOR JEAN

>The villain is a White American Christian opposed by our heroic minority group
>This came out in the mid-80's b-t-w
I wonder what /pol/ has to say about this.

Just curious is all.

It could have been better. I liked how much Stryker leaned on the Bible, though.

Kitty had such a terrible costume.

>>151120887
One of the best things Claremont has writtern. Also the absolutely worst thing to happen to the X-men until House of M

>>151124293
Kitty is the queen of dogshit costumes, she has like one good one (the blue jacket and domino mask) that isn't the most generic X-suit

navigating the mutant's place in the human world has always been one of the pillers of the series, it's natural that a few stories would broach that aspect in a striking way. why gnash your teeth over something that was inevitable.

>navigating the mutant's place in the human world has always been one of the pillers of the series
The issue is that it's stuck at the most absurd version or racism and discrimination. There is so much you can do with Mutants trying to find their way in the world but most writers who touch the Metaphor can only writer the most over the top version of Nazi Germany mixed with Jim Crow South

Am I crazy for thinking the cover having Kitty phasing from an invisible wall on top NY look retarded as hell and how have I not noticed this before?
>>
God Loves, Man Kills is depressing and also a little bit funny when you compare it to how anti-mutant bigotry is written in X-comics now. There's a lot of random civilians in the story, including cops and a state senator, who take the mutants' side, and Stryker acting openly murderous gets a largely negative reaction from the onlookers. Modern-day Marvel would never. On a lighter note, the story also features Cyclops, Storm, and Xavier getting BTFO and captured by a bunch of normal ass dudes with guns, something modern-day Marvel would also never ever do for a completely different reason.

huh?
>>
>>151126226
Look at the figure to the right in OP's pic. That's kitty. Does it not look awkward that she's phasing from nothing? Makes it look like there's a huge invisible wall and it looks awkward next to the other characters as it looks tacked on compositionally-wise. Ugh.

Haphazard cover. Suits X-Men perfectly.

There's generally less nihilism from liberal writing in the past which reflects real attitudes of each eras.
