This may be a hot take but I feel like Butch Hartman artstyle was always shit, it’s just like Total Drama or a Canadian flash cartoon in the sense that it’s just a poor attempt at replicating the UPA/retro-flat style, compared to good attempts at replicating it like Dexters Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls, or heck, even the 2000’s had more fun-looking UPA-styled cartoons in it like Grim Adventures, Clone High, and My Life as a Teenage Robot. I never understand why so many people like LS Mark try to replicate his style outside of nostalgia, it’s "generic 2000’s cartoon" embodied. Honestly Butchs art was at its most appealing during the 90’s with his What a Cartoon pilots.

The Noah one was supprisingly good. Not kino, but way better than the sludge he's been churning iut recently. My question is how does he expect to turn it into a full series? You're pretty limited in the scenarios you can do (unless you want to have Noah find land at somepoint and shift the focus to be about him rebuilding civilization, which would be kinda sick). Would work better as shorts imo.

Also, not a big fan the human designs. Noah himself is great, but almost everyone else just does not fit with the setting. Also, what's up with theme guys? Noah had them all with the same chick so why do they have such drastically diffrent skin tones?

The other one was eh. The animation was fine. Seems they're trying to riff on A New Wish's artstyle.

Still, supprised to see Butch put out something or acutally decent quality.
>>
I'm still in shock after watching that movie Butch had made recently. A Garden Cartoon Movie: The Greatest Thing Ever turned out to be one of the most craziest, deepest pieces of art I had ever seen. Lenny the lion and Lucy the sheep losing their friends in a horrific accident, being faced with near-death by angry bees, and Lucy losing her friend to a horrible hiking accident and growing up without him only to chase his visage to the garden? I cry thinking about this movie at random times of day.

Reviewers like LS Mark have never seen this copy of the film, only citing the shitty compilation film cobbled together from pre-existing shorts to dunk on Butch. But I know what I saw. I rewatched it well over a dozen times now. The Greatest Thing Ever had surpassed all my expectations in terms of art, story, and the corny shit I expect from Butch Hartman.

I'd love to send him an email about the movie with all my favorite lines, shots, and scenes. Although, I'm afraid he will try to suppress me. I am excited but also scared. I don't even know if he remembers it existed. I'm scared.
>>
>>151165808
The Noah's ark cartoon was fun, though it feels like you got limited potential with a show with that premise.

>>
>>151167614
Still feels very limited in terms of scope. That's like if the Simpsons took place entirely in their house. Which, it for the most part did in the Tracy Ulman shorts, but it worked there because of short format
>>
>>151167630
Contrast with the bear in >>151166516, this show's probably being carried by the art director who's aware of Hartman's failings as an artist.
>>
>>151167347
>Noah had them all with the same chick so why do they have such drastically diffrent skin tones?
I think to represent the three races that emerged from them, although they swapped the races around. Shem is the father of Semitic or West Asian races, Japheth for European and Ham for African. They probably changed it since Ham was punished for mocking a drunken naked Noah (wonder if they would include that in the cartoon) and made to be the servant of his brothers which later people used as justification for slavery of Africans.
Accurate version would be white Japheth, tan Shem and black Ham.

Noah's Ark being a children's comedy is pretty traditional. If you ignore the bit about God wiping out all other life on Earth, the idea of a dude, his family, and a bunch of exotic animals all cooped up on a boat is kinda cute and funny. Wouldn't surprise me if the ancient Jews made up goofy Ark stories to amuse their children, too.

Like listen to this Noah and feel the gravity behind every word in his dialogue. “Cute and funny” shouldn’t be the first things that come to mind when describing gospel. It shouldn’t be that cheap. What is going through Butch’s head, and what on Earth was Oaxis supposed to be besides a scsm?

Looking back, I find it disturbing that the first episode of FOP is Timmy realizing how much adulthood sucks. The conclusion shouldn’t have been him bawling his eyes out. If I wrote it, I’d have Timmy accept and deal with adult responsibilities, earn his way back into being a kid, and maybe throw in something cute like helping his parents with taxes or something.

>>151171833
I envy this dialogue writing. How can the English sound so proper and dignified with such simple words?! Is it the way they say them?
>>
>>151171924
*how much adulthood sucks and regressing back into childlike behaviors. That’s such a weird way to start the series when the main theme is supposed to be about growing up. That’s exactly why I hate sitcoms too, they’re actively designed to keep as much the same as possible. And those live-action movies…

You used to see it a lot of things. Games, cartoons and comics all tried to sound deep and grand and big. And this was kinds media too. It impressed a sense of scale and wonder. Now it feels like everything has to be downplayed and undermined. You can't care deeply about things, you can't invest. Any emotion and gravitas needs to be come a joke and adults will try to push memes and baby talk. You ever see the Silver Surfer show?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hcxiS9DHHhE
>>
>>151171997
That was pretty badass. I think media today is trying to sound deep too. The key difference has always been the focus on trying to matter versus the focus on what actually matters. Only those with experience can tell the difference, and even then only those with talent can distinguish it plainly for their chosen audiences.

They try but it feels like they don't understand things on the same level. There's no real insight or humanity. It's said a lot but older creators were people with very different lives, very different worlds. They weren't raised on pop culture and weren't just recycling things.

>That was cool with the Silver Surfer thanks for sharing
The whole show is pretty much like that. Surfer searching the galaxy pontificating on humanity and loneliness in grand cosmic fashion. It's good. Just wait till Thanos shows up. They go full MAD Titan. Also they call her Chaos because you can't death on TV. Very worth watching.

The biggest issue is how bland it looks. Bartman uses simple geometric characters, and the trade off should be that you can do neat stylization or posing with them to make interesting scenes.

There's better examples than my picture, but even in this sketch, there's framing that looks interesting at least. It wouldn't look as good if it just looked like the twitter post you included.

This. Would explain why all his recent projects have been religious in nature even though (as much as Butch wants to say this isn't the case) his cartoons didn't have all that much religion in them before.
>>
>>151172565
It’s disgusting and pretty obvious if you step to take a look at it. https://x.com/R00NIFF/status/1924025770453696764 I hate how he roped Terminalmontage into this bullshit, from what I can see, his faith is genuine
>>
>>151172565
It's kind of a strange balance. I don't think you have to treat your faith with inflexible devotion, having something more lighthearted can serve a good introduction for much younger viewers but at the same time, even if you don't share the faith and view it as mythology most of this deals with a lot of pretty heavy stuff so being really glib about it is just as gauche. How silly can you make a story where the entire population is mercilessly drowned because of their unrepentant hedonism

I'm not sure why internet autists are making a big thing about this particular shot. Is it because the characters are standing in line like a 2d platformer? Pic related is the very next scene lol.

Cartoon critics are just flat out disingenuous these days. Next they will start shitting on smear frames.

>compared to good attempts at replicating it like Dexters Laboratory, The Powerpuff Girls
I liked those shows as much as FOP but compare them side by side and you can easily tell the limitations of Cartoon Network Studios. Those shows look like FOP's pilot episode. Also, Butch had a major role in making Dexter's Lab actually good since he came up with the Major Glory segments.

>"generic 2000’s cartoon"

>>

It is. There is zero depth to any of Butch's work.
>>
Half the things he produces could work if he just ditches the god shit. Not trying to be edgy but you kinda pigeonhold yourself really badly with bible stories and stuff.
>>
>>151172906
This is actually a great picture. we can see the lack of depth in similar shots here. Even in Reddit bob and jew rats, you can see an attempt at depth for visual interest; the characters aren't just standing in a straight line. They all try to pretend they're in a 3D space, but FOP doesn't in this shot, and when it does, it still looks flat.
>>
>>151172958
This is really reaching to say any of those look significantly better than the FOP shot.
Like the Judenrats characters are practically blending into the wall. It's not a good shot.
In the FOP scene they are literally SUPPOSED to be standing in a line. They're being forced to weigh and hand their candy over to Vicky. The shot begins on Vicky, and then zooms out to reveal the rest of the characters. The scene then transits into a song that was very visually fun.

>Hartman Hartman Butch Butch Hartman did this did that
Really don't give a fuck. If this is all this is, people trashing someone's work simply because they don't like the author, then it's lame as fuck.

The only issue I have is that Timmy and Co's costumes look low effort, even though I know thatsthejoke.jpeg, and Vicky doesn't get one at all, although it does set up the joke "she's scary enough in person". Trixie and her friends all wear identical costumes (and for some reason shes evil now), and Tootie no shows, not sure if Francis or Sanjay were there either. So yeah FOP's does emminate some laziness. This episode was made by John Fountain, who as we know is actually responsible for the entire show, he even really voiced all the characters. Strange such a legend would drop the ball here.

Man, this is a really good showcase of how BH's style is highly limited to traditonal animation. Puppet rigs and CGI does not do it justice in the slightest, it falls apart immediately.

That being said, the Noah's Ark one is just okay. I can't see how they'd stretch such a concept into an entire show. It feels so small in scope compared to stuff like Fairly Oddparents or Danny Phantom, where literally anything was on the table.

Little Harps on the other hand was was just insufferable. It's all the worst elements of modern preschool shows mixed in with the worst elements of religious media, congealing into a hyper saccharine mess that makes Care Bears look like Berserk. That being said, I 100 percent would Miss Glory.

Overall though, a meh/10. Both of these shows seem like something meant to be consumed and them immediately forgotten, which is nothing short of tragic when Butch helmed some of the most iconic Nick shows out there. Like come on man, you're not confined to corporate whims anymore, be a LITTLE ambitious here.

He just seems like a normal coherent 4chan poster who sometimes avatarfags, which is retarded and attention whoreish but not inherently schizo given his posts (psyanon also avatarfags and edits over existing screenshots with his radio avatar and nobody considers him a mega autist). I even agree with most of his opinions, which is more than I could ever say for the likes of Boco or Sharktalefag.

>MUH BACKGROUNDS

Why do modern cartoonfags put so much emphasis in meaningless crap like this? Recent cartoons (Steven Universe, Amphibia come to mind) where they have beautiful and elegantly painted backgrounds with the most hideously generic CalArts blobs waddling across them. Or this whole spiel about how these blobs are standing next to each other or even unique camera angles of these androgynous blobs. Who gives a shit if it all looks so disjointed?

Look at Autismbob here >>151172906
He is staged heckin' deptherino'd science to be standing in the doorway, but the top-left corner of his generic "shitty white sheet as a costume joke" (done to death long before this episode premiered) is overlapping the door frame. Oops! Can point that out to a non-Christian cartoonist like Hillenburg.

Mainly because he's fucking dead.

It’s a little fucked, but I’m actually disappointed that he didn’t. Seemed like a slam dunk with TUFF puppy and all that. Like as if it was a perfect recipe for disaster

He makes a couple cameos in this other episode https://youtu.be/SA0NssRqHfE
I like Saul in this one too

The main point is he treats scripture with the respect and weight it deserves, which is why babified bible media has always irked me. I think even veggietales has it’s slow moments that respects its audience’s intelligence. That’s the main thing any christian proselytizing should do, respect intelligences, and a guy who scams people out of their cash for what is basically parental control clearly does not.

If I make a show for Butch would schizos on /co/ promote it for me too

I would love to write for a show with his and Silver’s art style. Maybe historical retellings with his comedic spins

Pretty based and Biblically accurate to make it unquestionable that Ham was White.

>>151167881
People get confused about that, but Ham would've been White because Abraham was descended from Ham, and therefore so were Isaac, Jacob, Joseph, Moses, David, Daniel, and etc all the way down until you get Mary and therefore Jesus. That's why in Galatians it says that Jesus is the seed of Abraham and has inherited his blessing from the LORD so that those who bless him will be blessed and those that curse him will be cursed.

There are lots of different angels in the Bible. Usually they appear looking like people because in the story of Samson, Samson's parents didn't believe the angel that came to them and told them God commanded them to never cut his hair was actually an angel until he ascended up to Heaven after talking to them.

Even the ones that people try to say look like this might not because John couldn't quite accurately describe their appearance in human words. Like for example, when he sees Jesus in Heaven he says "his face was lightning."
