It's a bad idea, but the reason it pops up because Megacorporations own comics, cartoons, movies, TV shows, etc., and there's very often a considerable investment. If you're going to make a cartoon then you want to make sure you make a profit, and the easiest way to do that is to make a new version of something that already has a proven track record for making money. So we hang on to these moldy old franchises, not even letting them have a break.Sword Master is a perfect example. Marvel paid a video game company to make character that would capture the Asian market. Except... Sword Master didn't do great on his own. Rather than pour more and more money into his book, hoping sales would improve, Marvel tried to staple him onto the existing Iron Fist franchise, with its proven track record.
