>>151303959im still a novice myself but from what ive learnt so far, dont force yourself to draw for long periods of time at the beginning, 30 minutes a day *but every day no matter what* is exponentially more beneficial than one 10 hour session once every 2 or so weeks, it helps both in developing the habit to draw and doing it in digestible chunks, this is more the mindset stuff but for more actionable advice id say, balance out drawing what you want vs doing studies (studies being, master studies which involves *studying* the works of someone who is a master which could include copying, tracing, breaking down their work into basic 3d forms, writing notes etc.) most of this stuff seems very kind of "yeah i get it" but your subconscious doesnt really "get it" until you do it a lot and you kinda, ingraine ideas, proportions, measurements etc. into your subconcious, since drawing is more akin to exercising/athletics which is more like a combination of problem solving via subconscious reflexes and trained respones (i.e trying to pose a character becomes easier and easier the more poses youve studied because you develop both an imaginative/memory bank of poses while also subconciously training your "mind's eye" to go "Yeah that looks correct" and "nah that looks off" the more you do it). Another thing would be to focus on "forms", if you wanna do lineart mainly (like myself) focus on learning how to draw basic 3d forms, cubes, cylinders, pyramid etc after which you later experiment with manipulating them into slightly more complex forms (i.e a manipulated sphere to serve as the ribcage) if you wanna do more painting stuff then study forms using value (lights and darks) (im not too good at this stuff yet so i cant really recommend much since i mainly do lineart stuff) but other than that just take it one step at a time and balance doing study stuff vs drawing for fun (yes it will suck at first but you have to keep going no matter what)

>>151304142yep basically (the most important part of all being every day no matter what), we're creatures that learn best from copying how others do stuff and then adapting it into our own methods. this gets tricky for art because different people kinda, think differently about stuff which is where you get stylization, abstraction etc. and its kinda chaotic to figure out what the hell to do when there's a trillion guides, videos, instructions, routines etc. the important part ive found is to experiment and try and fail, if something works, then do it for a while until you get bored or stuff doesnt seem to work, and then try other stuff, rinse and repeat, lots of experimentation until you slowly start developing your own kinda sorta method and way of thinking about it. Also drawing from imagination is very hard and dont feel bad about it not looking good since it takes time for it to get really really good (years), doing studies will generally always end with a better "looking" result since you have a particular result to compare to which is what guides your thought process "oh so this part is smaller cause its pointing into the scene" or "ah this part is lighter cause its receiving reflected light from this other part which is close to it" etc. for comparison sake here's stuff i drew from imagination vs a study, So dont fret and dont be afraid to use references (some advice i should follow more often) for comparison heres some random shit i did this month (left) from imagination and reference vs like a proper study i did last month (right) https://files.catbox.moe/vl2g26.png since studies take time you can spend quite a lot on one and make it look really nice (i think this one was like 10-11 hours or so) and in the process you try to think about what the guy who did the thing you're studying was doing
