So, is there any word on Squirrel Girl getting a new comic? I want to follow the character, but I can't stomach Unbeatable.
>>
Sorry bro, there's nothing. Maybe you can try west coast avengers but that's more of a team book.

A new comic won't save Squirrel Girl, not in the long run. Even if something new comes out and its great, it'll be cancelled, ruined by editorial, or forced to deal with the character's prior baggage. Pray she gets included in a decent cartoon or live-action adaptation.
>>
>>151305699
Did they finally ditch that super short haircut that made her look like she lost a fight with a lawnmower in the comics?

Her hair grows out a bit towards the latter half of Unbeatable. By the 2022 radio show set in that continuity, it looks like this.

>>
>>151305699
The last time Squirrel Girl was good in comics was when she was hanging around with Luke Cage and crew. USG is just another case of an lgbtq weirdo somehow getting paid to do mediocre work and ruin a character everybody loves. These people just love ruining what we like, and somehow are better able to maneuver themselves into such positions better than normal people who are fans and have superior talent.

>>
>>151309099
OP got curious about a character, read an often complained about run, didn't like it, then asked if there was anything upcoming to look forward to. How does that make them a retard? Are you that much of a fan of North's comic?
>>
>>151305699
>Casual gains a surface level appreciation for a character (in a game that doesn't use her canon appearance)
>Glances at the book that comprises almost all her appearances
>Dislikes it
>Runs to /co/ to basically ask someone to validate his belief that the character should be written differently AND WILL BE.

We don't throw around "casual" as an insult because it's bad to be new to comics (well, most of us don't). What people dislike is the laziness and entitlement we see. An unwillingness to look shit up, mixed with a belief that surely what they want to exist is something that SHOULD exist.
I might tolerate someone coming in and saying "the Ryan North run didn't work for me, I just didn't like the writing or art, please recommend something else."
But he made a whole thread just to announce that he liked a popular game, didn't like the comics he tried, and isn't interested in other "old" comics (he doesn't ask for other stuff to read). No, he just wants something NEW that specifically caters to his idea of how the character should be written (100% based on a game).
Fucking casuals, man.

Stop tickling the monkey's paw and go fap to Overwatch's Mei.
And stop assuming "Popular in Rivals" translates into jack shit when it comes to comic sales. Peni Parker doesn't even exist in 616 and if you ask the Spider-Man fandom if that should change I'm pretty sure you'll hear screeching about how much they do not want more Spider-people.

Who said anything about comics? No one reads those anymore and hasn't for years and years. I mean in something that matters like an animated series or as a side character in an animated movie or whatever.
>>
>>151305699
There's nothing but cameos in one off comics. They're mostly terrible. Squirrel Girl's a nothing character ruined by meme popularity with Marvel giving her terrible full of themselves writers.

There was never much effort to give her more prominence. She was like Howard the Duck. All the other heroes were fighting gods across the realms while she was dealing with the Frost Giants in Canada by looking up how Alberta got rid of its rats.

Both are characters who should only exist as background jokes. Attempts at actual stories with them just makes the universe worse.

What's hilarious is we have that shitty series to thank for her being "thicc" in the first place. Pre-wokening Doreen was either some typically shapely comic book gal with a gremlin face or a typically shapely comic book gal with a not gremlin face. Rivals is honestly the best she's looked.
>>
The character of squirrel girl had untapped potential which could have resulted in larger sales numbers and cultural impact, and the ryan north comics failed to take advantage of that potential, theoretically, but it wasn't obvious at the time.

Well, maybe they should have known they were limiting their audience with the art, but aside from that.

Now we know, lesson learned. (hopefully)
>>
>>
>>
>>151310628
Pretending that the dyke-run ha any hand in what made te character popular is a casual take. His impression of the character seems very accurate.

Her ugly redesign was catering to ugly people. The ugly writer was an outcast growing up, and all her humor was bred in a vaccum of reddit and hanging out with other losers. Divergent nerds are only fun to each other, because they have nothing else. This is also why meme-culture now is all about repeating the same thing over and over. Context and humor is irrelevant. Of course they make terrible writers.

Man, I've read tons of comics and the oldest stuff like the first numbers of Avengers and all the F4 from issue number 1 to the one published this month. I had no problem even with the original story where SG meet Ironman and Doom. I liked everything
But that Squirrel Girl run have shitty art to me. I find some of those stories even funny, I must admit, even if the new cast around Doreen, the college students, are lame and boring.

>>
>>151318984

>>151318984
A cutesy comic where she inexplicably saves the day or beats up world ending villains for being mean and tells them a helpful moral.
They end up crashing at The Treehouse. Eating her snacks playing games and reforming themselves.
Few of them become her side kicks.

It could work if she's draw cute and the comic isnt written by a tranny or someone who carries water for the trannies.

The joke worked sporadically because it's a ridiculous idea. The idea of her in a solo fighting evil out of her league with the power of squirrels taken seriously would've worked but modern writers suck & modern artists are even worse. They have to approach everything comedic with irony even when treating it straight is what makes it funny. To say nothing of focusing on coffee shop college bullshit & talk no jutsu-ing villains.

A few possibilities.
In their longest encounter she kept trying to convince him that he could "accomplish so much more" and be a positive force if he worked WITH other people instead of trying to dominate them. Calling him by his first name could be her circling back to her "you'd be happier and more accomplished if you made some friends" arguments. Or it could be scorn. The man was willing to sacrifice all the people of Latveria to control the world while maintaining an image of a benevolent dictator. Win or lose, he'd already lost his chance to con everyone into thinking Latveria was doing great under his rule and there was no downside to his dictatorship. Or she could be trying to keep his focus on her, since her job in that scene was to be The Distraction.

Okay. North got 58 issues, a special, and a podcast, stopped when he decided he'd done everything he wanted to and then was sent to write some fairly high-profile stuff. It sold decently enough it was the writer's discretion whether or not to keep going. Anons want to go "no, no, it was only popular with tumblr women who only read fanfic" who - as we all know - don't BUY comics. I can only conclude that there's a healthy number of people that bought it but feel a need to pretend they didn't.

What weirds me out is that we still don't have enough for a full Guardians team, which is weird because we've been sitting at 5 since launch, you'd think they'd go ahead and add the one more we need. There's a shortage of tanks while Drax is right there, they're constantly looking for more hot girl characters while Gamora is right there. Technically you could run 5 Guardians and Venom since he was with them for a minute, but that feels like a cop out.

That's generally the weight-class they show her in, although there's been some hand-waving by saying she does judo shit to redirect weight a lot of the time. I figure it's similar to what happens with Spidey. If we were honest with Squirrel Girl, "proportionate strength of a squirrel" would have her maxing out at 1000lb at absolute "that's the world's buffest squirrel" maximum, which is less than a tractor. Spidey should be able to get a good few thousand pounds. Ants supposedly can do a max of 50X their weight, so let's say he can hit around maybe 9000lb. Sure, why not. Spidey once held up a corner of the collapsing Daily Bugle, a building that we were told weighed 1,000,000,000 lb. Even keeping in mind he was only replacing one of the pillars... yeah, no.
"It looks cool" means you ignore what the characters' supposed peak strength is.

It'll be canceled within a year. If synergy was real comics would have been boosted in huge ways by the movies. It doesn't work. Wandavision put Scarlet Witch and Vision in the spotlight. Did the characters become popular in the books? Nope. We should certainly be happy if any normies check the books out, but any interest they show is going to be a blip, and changing comics to make them more like other media is a bad idea.
I wish we could rely on /v/ or /tv/ to give readership a shot in the arm but the people who do the Wakanda salute or talk for half an hour about Rivals strategies just don't pick up the books.

CnD are a ragebait characters made by Tom Brevoort.
>>151325689
>WandaVision
They broke up and they still are now so they are also a ragebait characters.

The point here is ragebait doesn't sell. Marvel Rivals offers permanent teamup feature through an in-game valentine event as the opposite of ragebait which is why it sells. I predict the next valentine event in Marvel Rivals to be about Iron Frost which has Iron Man and Emma Frost. That one should be ragebait free which translates to comics selling.
